Not as well executed as Ninja Golf, but the idea of someone just throwing knives at you while you play is my type of dark humor.

Played as part of Atari 50.

Lynx version sucks ass, go figure. They already weren't starting from the best of the best but the framerate in this is horrendous enough I had to tap out after only a couple minutes, whereas I was able to at least stick with the 7800 version for long enough for the levels to loop over. It's still very slow and boring.

the title and premise actually do kick ass i just wish the game was good :(

The concept sounds like a fun idea but the game itself is a bit lacking both as a basketball game and as a beat 'em up. You can basically wail on your opponents until they get knocked out and then just spend the rest of the game racking up points

Lynx:

The Atari Lynx Version of this game is wayyy better than the 7800 version as it's more a 1v1 with the referees essentially being an extra force to attack you along with your opponent. The game is fun in terms of both playing basket ball and absolutely wrecking your opponent by beating them up. The game features a new knockout system where you punch until a specific point to where you knock out your opponent cold which gives you an advantage to score. The game is a lot more fair and fun as a result. I recommend the Lynx Version of BasketBrawl, but not the 7800 version.

I played this on Atari 50.

Pretty solid graphics and you get to pick your character. It's basketball with power ups ans you can punch dudes.

Great concept, poorly executed.

I have heard this is much better on the 7800. Sadly this port is pretty sluggish. Flying kick or knife the rival team in a friendly game of basketball.

Sadly not the best example of a brawl/sports hybrid. Safe to pass on.

You really have to wonder why this isn't as fast as it is with the speed-up powerup by default. Once you and an opponent get it it's actually fairly decent, but on first starting it up it's slow, sluggish, and clunky. That isn't to say it isn't still clunky once it speeds up, but it's much more tolerable.

Playing Through My Evercade Collection Part 13: Atari Lynx Collection 1

I hated the 7800 version of this, in fact I hated it so much, it currently is last in my evercade game ranking. This? This is MUCH better with some rather fun and easy gameplay, running around, punching your opponent and scoring baskets. Its a fun little thing.

But the problem is its a little thing, there isn't really enough here to keep anyone's interest going for very long. The game as a whole is pretty easy and the rounds go on for slightly too long so by the time you've finished even just two stages, theres already the urge to just move onto something with substance behind it.

Playing Through My Evercade Collection Part 5: Atari Vol 2

Bleh why are so many Atari 7800 games ugly as sin. WHY. Anyway, this is terrible, the controls are floaty, the animations are stilted and the AI is stupid... All topped off by, as mentioned, the usual Atari 7800 ugly stick graphics. Boo.

7800:

Legit the 7800 version feels like it's trying to frustrate you, it's basket ball where you're able to beat the every living hell out of your opponent, only this is, it's more fun to attack your opponents instead of playing basket ball because unless you're playing with a second player, it feels like the game is fighting you, where the CPU ALLY will not pass you the damn ball, and instead be selfish as and never help you when you have the ball. When you get the ball somehow, immediately the Opponents will just rush you and attack you, and your cpu teammate won't do anything. The CPU's so selfish he'll always attempt to score and NEVER pass the ball. The characters are all imbalanced as hell as the slowest character just straight up the worst. Honestly I don't like this version of Basket Brawl.

I kinda was expecting a little more with a huge emphasis on the fighting but it kind of just boils down to being able to punch players to get the ball back, a few power ups and that's really it. A cool arcade basketball experience nonetheless even though you can just cheese the game in 2v2 but repeatedly punching everyone that the CPU can't act all it.
