Alright, this was pretty cool. So cool to the point where I kinda can't believe Konami okay'd it. Glad they saved the best for last.

I was crying tears of joy until the final boss then I was just crying

Wife’s Reaction:
“I’m amazed at how bro-y you got after beating Dracula. Chill, bruh.”

It’s all thanks to this DLC that my love for Dead Cells is at such a high point. The moment I got into the Castlevania levels I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. It’s a perfect homage to a series that isn’t getting much love right now, and I just want more of it.

I really liked the DLC, even though I haven't been able to beat it yet

I got and beat this DLC before even finishing the main game. as a castlevania superfan, i approve.

the first Castlevania game I've ever played and the last Castlevania game that will ever be released.

Love the cross over episode! While I am not the biggest fan of how Dead Cells implemented any of their DLC, there is much to be said about the mountains of DLC content that comes with this update. It will strike through your heart with a steak for anyone who is a fan of both franchises.

Reviewing all of the additional content for Dead Cells, since I haven't played any of it before, and the game had some massive additions since 2020.

I haven't opened Dead Cells in a hot minute, also known as 3 of the worst years of my life. In that time it somehow turned into a massive Deadpool-like project for roguelite and metroidvania games. References to other games are littered throughout the levels, there are homage quests, homage items and homage secrets. Like these thing go, some of it made me smile, some of it missed the spot, cause I haven't played whatever was referenced. Overall it's not too memorable, and the biggest homage, the sprawling Castlevania DLC, is not for me, as I'm mostly familiar with that world through the animated series (not much of a classics gamer).

The quality of life improvements are huge, and very welcome. It is much more streamlined and responsive experience than it was years ago.

The additional content is hit and miss. The new items are fun, but the vast majority feel gimmicky and not very useful. If you want to survive a run with any Boss Cells activated you need to steer clear of all the new shiny things, and they serve as a major annoyance because they clutter the space in the shops and chests. The companion items are very cute and, unlike most of the additions, powerful, but have zero play to them, they just go around and kill stuff for you.

The added levels leave a better impression. They experiment with stuff a lot in them, for example Lighthouse level gives an exciting vertical moving boss fight with traps and a ticking clock of a fire underneath you. Even for someone who is not particularly into Castlevania, everything in those locations looks and sounds awesome, as is with most of the new levels.

The core experience of Dead Cells is still probably the best 2D action I ever played, and you can't take that away from the game. On balance, the new additions are mostly entertaining fluff rather than something substantial. After completing all the new levels a couple of times, I mostly stuck to the original routes.

Best videogame homage in a videogame

I... Beat it in 3 hours???

I first played this on Switch and spent a lot of time with it. But the difficulty of the final boss made me feel I wouldn't stand a chance, so I eventually dropped it. This time, however, I somehow managed to luck out with RNG and get a weapon that decimated everything, including the hand of the king. It's still playable, but I'm almost disappointed it happened so quickly this time lol

This is one of the best roguelikes ever, and I'll keep playing so I can get through the Castlevania DLC.

I do really wish this referenced more beyond just Symphony and Rondo (and the random Shanoa replacing the Collector), but man this is really cool. The Dracula and Death fights are great, Richter Mode is fun, and the Castle feels comfortably familiar. It just gives me a goofy smile throughout.

Alucard Sword became one of my favorite weapons, and Richter, Simon, Maria and Alucard skins are top-tier. And the music, holy shit.

It's Dead Cells with some locations, weapons, characters, enemies and music from Castlevania. There really isn't much more to say. The core loop of Dead Cells remains excellent, and the faithful blending of Castlevania elements is a treat to behold for a fan of the long-dead series.

Already liked Dead Cells, this made it even more enjoyable, but the fact Shanoa was exclusively a merchant with no player skin is a huge miss opportunity.

Mad fun game, and I don't consider myself too into Metroidvanias. The crossover items are really fun and the gameplay overall is addicting, even though I still have no idea what I'm doing. Kinda wish it were easier to get more items (even with the Blueprint Generator thingy), as well as some of the items being buffed a bit, but it doesn't prove to be much of hinderance overall. Would recommend!

This is one of the best DLCs I've ever played

As satisfying as ever, with the almost perfect crossover, executed excellently.

seeing the Dead Cellsified harpies made me happy

I’m begging for another Castlevania game PLEASE

so why can't we get another castlevania again?
