I really, really want to like this game, but I can't.
It's a sequel to my favorite fighting game, with way better visuals and bigger roster of characters. It is also worse than its predecessor in every other way.
I can deal with extremely simplified (for the sake of 3v3 battles) gameplay, or the barebones story mode, or the "costumes" (color swaps, mostly) being locked behind a lootbox system. What I can't deal with, is the fact that this is a Final Fantasy in name only.
You have a crossover between more than a dozen FF's, and there is barely anything from those games in it. Even the player characters are lifeless. Was it really that hard to record some unique greeting voice lines per character? They don't even acknowledge other characters from their games.
The more I play this, the more I want to go play Duodecim instead.

I really love the multiplayer for this game but sadly it is pretty much dead. The story mode to be honest really sucks and was a letdown for almost everyone who came from the PSP version hoping for more of the same. There were many changes to turn the single player focused PSP game into this multiplayer focused arcade game and some of them were for the better and some of them were not. As an arcade game I can say it was a lot of fun, but as a single player game it really fails compared to the PSP games.
As a huge fan of the PSP Dissidia games, Dissidia NT is perhaps the most disappointing video game I’ve ever played. The decision to change the combat from 1v1 to 3v3 baffles me, and it makes the battles much messier and more chaotic in the worst way possible. Combine that with much, much worse single player content and suddenly one of the best Final Fantasy spinoffs has become one of the worst.
Square Enix really dropped the ball with this game. Flopped so hard it's f2p and people still aren't playing it...What's worse, they are taking its failure as "no one wants Dissidia". Can't speak for all but I know I do, just not how they did it here. Poor execution and needless 3v3 that doesn't work and muddles the screen with a poorly designed HUD.
Best part of this game is the graphical upgrade. Did not finish the story because the gameplay is not good and it didn't feel like it was worth it.
This is one of those times where a remake of a game would've been a better choice. Duodecim was right there, all they had to do was add characters to it and revamp the story. This engine/graphical upgrade + Duodecim = success.
