Endless Ocean is a unique and tranquil diving simulator that replaces combat and challenge with exploration and discovery. You'll navigate breathtaking underwater environments, cataloging marine life and uncovering ancient mysteries. With its soothing ambiance and educational focus, the game offers a relaxing experience unlike most mainstream titles. However, those craving fast-paced action or traditional game structures might find the lack of clear objectives or progression less engaging.

Should have been the most boring game of all time, accidentally very enthralling.

This fucked, my mum thought it was boring as shit but I was obsessed with it. I must have had hundreds of hours on it when I was a kid. There was this rly scary shark that swung around and bit the water around you when you got too close tho. That terrified me
Also Hayley Westenra has a beautiful voice and her music adds so much to the atmosphere

not interesting enough to continue with

Me, a ten year old boy, making the male swimmer be shirtless: haha I just think it's funny

Still a pretty laid-back nature game, but lacks a lot of the content and quality-of-life features that Endless Ocean: Blue World added later on

When I was a kid, me and my siblings had a Wii and we have played this game on it. it was a good game for what it was, it is just something that brings me joy when I think about it. it's only flaw was that it was way too short that thankfully was fixed with the sequel.

dudeee this game was scaryyyy!!!
i was barely conscious when i played this bc i was very very young but wowww this was MY abzu

I don't think it's possible for me to be more of an ocean nerd than I am, so I got a lot of enjoyment out of seeing all of the different critters you can discover. The models were realistic and mostly pleasant, and a nice variety of creatures are represented. The story can be comfortably beaten in a few hours, but there are plenty of secrets to explore that'll definitely kill some more time. Unfortunately, the controls could be janky, the music was unremarkable, and having to go back and reinteract with every creature in order to unlock all their trivia dragged the game down.

This game is a lot more straightforward than its sequel which works to both its benefit and detriment. Atmosphere is top notch and it's essentially completely open world. Some design choices, such as season locks, irk me a little bit, however, and make completing the encyclopedia kind of hellish. Still a lovely game.

Prayer by Hayley Westenra STILL gets stuck in my head, 10/10.
(May or may not have started playing it when I saw the game cover)

I never beat this game when I was younger because I was too dumb but WOW these graphics were impressive for a wii game. My grandpa bought it for me because he used to own a dive shop business and went on thousands of dives. I wish I still had the game now because it was clearly something my grandpa wanted me to give a taste of because he loves diving so much.

This game was very magical for 9 year old me. Nowadays I couldn’t even dare play it again due to thalassophobia lol

Fantastic game with some of the best visuals on the Wii.

A very cute, simple game, that got me surprisingly invested in the just as simple and cute story. This is definitely a game that's meant for an ULTRA casual audience, with the expectation that you wouldn't be playing many, if any, other games beside it for a LONG time. This can make it feel a little tedious when you're trying to collect or unlock certain things, and the style-at-the-time motion controls definitely don't help. But there's still plenty to enjoy, and I'm glad I stuck with it! It's a game with a lot of personality, as barebones and almost Grandma Game as it can feel in a few places.

If anything, it only got me more excited to check out the 2nd game on the Wii, and the new Switch game coming out (which is why I picked this back up off the shelf). I'm looking forward to a smoother control experience, not having to do weird grinding to fill out the information on the wildlife, and a generally more "gamey" experience (what with the sequels giving you more stuff to actually do and unlock).

I've also been on a bit of a diving game kick lately, between this and b.l.u.e. Legend of Water, so it might be fun to check out the Everblue games on PS2 that this is a spiritual successor to...

Fantastic relaxing game. Great graphics for Wii, truly beautiful ost and an interesting gameplay loop of exploration and documenting sea life.

Please bring these games to virtual console or remake them. These are a must for people who love underwater games

I give this game 4 stars not only because it's the most chill game to ever exist (without counting endless ocean 2) but because it had the balls to do this to begin with.

i honestly feel that the sequel outdid this game in (almost) every way but man i still love it so much

so many memories with my dad and my brother playing this. im honestly so thankful i got to play this when i was a kid

the first time i went down into the abyssal zone i saw a massive sperm whale fluke looming out of the darkness and when it moved there was a mola mola behind it and i swear it looked just like something had bitten a shark in half and left its half-carcass floating there to die. the second time i went down into the abyssal zone i was facing a wall so i wouldn't see anything scary, unaware there was a cave with a megamouth emerging from it right in front of me. 10/10 would be traumatized again

One of the first games I ever played and I still have fond memories of it to this day. I really wish they would make a new one, as I would love another diving simulator of some sort.

unironically a masterpiece, I can’t shitpost on this one

This was one of my biggest childhood video games. That being said, I don't think it holds up all that spectacularly. A huge complaint I hear with this series is that the gameplay is pretty boring and here, I can definetly see why. The reef is awesome to see the first time but when the entire map looks like it, it starts to get pretty repetitive. That being said, there are moments that truly stand out to me. Namely, the Abyss, the Mermaid Cave, the Ship's Rest, and the Atoll Ruins were fantastic changes of pace. Hayley Westenra has the voice of a goddess and her songs add this ethereal beauty to these areas. The Abyss in particular is my favorite area (Even though, as a child, I had to get my dad to play through it because I was too scared to.) Overall, not amazing or even that good by any means. The sequel on the other hand...

Breathakingly beautiful game with a really soothing and pretty soundtrack. Admittingly there's not much more to it than swimming around and petting fish/animals, but if that's what you're into, it's a really relaxing time.

Smells like childhood, pretty amazing for its time imo

Child me was enamored by big whale
