Playing ff6 was such an adventure. It has the best cast of characters out of all the ff games i've played. There's no single "protagonist" that you only care about.Instead, you get to play different sets of characters at different time intervals until the final battle where everyone kinda unites into a single team. This,i found fascinating because you really start caring for each character and watching them overcome obstacles in their own separate adventures is just so much fun.New characters get introduced from time to time and slowly we start seeing how all the characters' fates intertwine at the end.
Besides that, gameplay also improves a lot from the previous games.I like the timer thingy which makes battles more interactive and engaging.Theres just so many places to explore and secrets to unravel in this game. Also, the final boss was the best i have seen in jrpgs.
Everything considered,i do think this is my most favourite jrpg.

PS: I plan to play final fantasy 7 next.Which version/port would you guys suggest me to play? I will be glad to hear yall's opinion.Thank you!

One of the most revered Final Fantasy entries, and for good reason. From the iconic opening in which we're introduced to Terra, the brainwashed servant of the Gestahlian Empire forced to try and destroy the mining town of Narshe, VI is immediately gripping. What unfolds after is a swirling character drama as a huge cast come together to try and stop Gestahl and, of course, the maniacal mage Kefka. This is by far the most ambitious story Square had yet attempted in the franchise, and it pays off in a seriously big way.

It's also the beginning of a change for Final Fantasy. This is, I think, perhaps the earliest example of what I would consider a "modern" Final Fantasy. Much of the fantasy trappings are replaced by quasi-steampunk elements, and the story unfolds in a neat, semi-linear fashion with a tightly controlled movement of characters in and out of your party helping to direct you around the world. It's refreshing, honestly, but it's helped of course by the sheer strength of the writing.

And yes, the opera sequence is still incredible.

I can't get into both the SNES and this GBA version of Final Fantasy VI for some reason.

Played this with the hacks that make it more akin to the Snes version in both sound and visual. Had a blast.

This is by no means perfect, it's unbalanced as hell, and some characters are not fully explored as they could have been(Shadow, Strago and Relm relationship), but this game has a beautiful and fun story about hope and love, reuniting every party member after having the world almost destroyed is one of my favorite things from any game, and almost every character has a lot of charisma or interesting stories. And even if the gameplay is unbalanced, it's still extremely fun, you have a lot of options with characters gimmicks and magicite, and this is very well paced for an old JRPG, there's rarely moments where i feel the game drags. In my 5 or 6 playthroughs i've always had fun swapping between party members on world of ruin going after others characters or doing sidequests. And i love how the world in this game is presented, the talkings with NPCs in every town have a lot of personality, and the perfect OST by Uematsu gives the game a lot of atmosphere. My last playthrough was 2 years ago i guess, and i will still replay some other time in the future, because i will always love this game

I enjoyed playing this game, and can see why it's often cited as the "best" in the series, but coming to it after originally enjoying the PS1 entries, and playing on a tiny DS screen, it's hard to get super invested in the systems around an admittedly interesting RPG narrative. Happy to have finally played through it, but probably won't be compelled to dive through it again.

Best cartridge ever "borrowed" and never returned. The cast of characters is fantastic, and the plot/stories herein almost as good, and the music is god-tier. Also, I appreciate that Terra and Celes are the focus of the narrative of the game in the first and second half, respectively; it's both an interesting mirroring of characters and an iconic #letsgoladies moment.

This game is just a masterpiece on SNES. Of course the remake on GBA is really good and has some cool additionnal content, but the narrative of the game is really different from what we knew. Final Fantasy 4 was good and FF 6 is more than just a copy of the game with another story.

The hidden characters, the idea to make it possible to go beat Kefka without finding everyone after the Great Cataclysm is just amazing and helps making every run unique.

I also loved the idea to split characters in groups to make it through dungeons.

The only problem of this game is within the fights, but it's a minor points that is not enough to change my rating. When you want to flee, all the characters should flee at the same time. Sometimes, 3 characters were off-screen and one was staying... I can't see how this system is useful for the gameplay.

This game was great! As my first game in the Final Fantasy series, I was worried about the jrpg complexity stigma. And while this game has its fair share of complex mechanics, none of it felt overwhelming or forced! The story itself felt very well done, and while aged still held up great! I love having a big party of unique characters, and this game fits that perfectly. One thing I struggled with was the lack of direction sometimes, especially in the later parts of the game. While this did worsen my experience to an extent, the game as a whole was super fun!

My favorite character is Setzer

As a kid I hated this one and I tried it again recently to no avail really.

Just the most perfect video game I've ever played. These characters, this story, this gameplay, is apparently everything I want from gaming. It's the Highwater mark for me. The game that all others are measured against. I love it dearly.

A true Final Fantasy Odissey.
This is a game that gets progressively better, the more you play, the more interesting it gets. It is a steam punk world with magic mixed to it. The game tackles with a lot of themes in a way very few RPGs are able to do.
Gameplay is probably the weakest part. Battles are just easy once you learn how powerful the Magic command is in this game. Resources are always available and overall there's little challenge.
The soundtrack is absurd. Every single one of the tracks is a masterpiece. The instruments fit in every scene they are played. It's an experience very reminiscent of musicals. Whenever something truly important or majestic shows up, the music will tell you.
Graphics. It's a pretty standard jrpg bit-style game in this regard. However each character shares their in-game sprite with their in-battle sprite, I really appreciate that. Some monster designs are rich with details, even though the pixelated art style tends to blend them all together.
Dancing Mad. This has to be one of the best music tracks in videogame history. The opening alone should be enough to convince you that this game will not disappoint. It is mysterious, scary, shocking and magical.
A must play

Absolutely amazing soundtrack, it's like a work of magic, nothing else compares. Legendary main villain, and cast of characters overall. This is the best 2D Final Fantasy.

I can't really add more than what people have already said about this game over the years. I played this modded with the SNES sounds and it felt like the perfect experience. I originally played this on the PS1 but never got far enough until I finished this version. The characters, music, art, summons, and a ton of other things are amazing.

I did find the latter half of the game to have a bit of odd side stuff but it still blended into the game well. I really liked the different perspectives you got from playing the different characters over the course of the game and I wish more FF titles did it like that.

Why is this the only version of the game I've played? Should I be killed?

I have to say that Final Fantasy VI is by far my favorite Final Fantasy after beating it. It blends story, character, and atmosphere better than any other Final Fantasy game I have played so far. Kefka does an amazing job as a villain, and the cast of characters are largely fun to interact with and feel unique from each other both mechanically and visually.

Give Ultros a spin-off you cowards

Finished playing Final Fantasy 6 advance.
I obviously went into this with very high expectations and yeah this game is flipping awesome sauce. Our main protagonist is Terra but you can play as every party member. The game is obviously similar to ff4 you visit towns, buy weapons, go through dungeons, fight many different enemies, talk to npcs but this time you have a larger cast of characters, all of them having unique personalities and abilities and the best part is that along with chrono trigger this is my favourite JRPG cast.
Terra like i mentioned before is the main protagonist with the ability to use magic and she is half human and half esper
Locke is a thief or should i say treasure hunter who ends up falling in love with Celes who is another person that joins your party
Edgar is the king of figaro castle and he has the ability to use tools
Sabin is Edgar's brother and in my opinion he is the most useful party member due to his blitz ability
Shadow is quite the puzzling fella but he has a dog called interceptor so that makes him cool af
Celes used to be a general for the empire and she actually becomes the protagonist for a while in the 2nd half
Gav is a wild kid who you first meet with Sabin and Cyan and the 3 of them have some funny moments
Cyan is a swordsman of Doma who lost his family because of Kefka and he has a unique way of speaking but he is also a very powerful party member
Setzer is a gambler who owns an airship and his character design is dope as hell
Strago is Relm's grandfather and he is one of the few humans who are able to use magic
Relm is an artist and her sketch ability is really cool and the scene with her and Strago at the end of the game is really sweet
Mog is a one of the few missable party members but make sure to not miss him because his dance ability is really fricking cool and Mog is also really fricking cool
Umaro is a yeti and that's pretty much it
Gogo is a mime and idk there must be something i missed in the game about Umaro and Gogo.
FF6 also has one of my favourite antagonists in gaming which is the one and only Kefka, i don't think i need to explain why he is such a great antagonist oh and how can i forget about that villainous laugh. The combat is really awesome, there are many great abilities such as Sabin's blitz and Cyan's bushido, the introduction of espers was really cool and you have many different weapons and relics. The boss lineup of this game is one of if not my favourite boss lineup it has so many amazing bosses such as phantom train, imperial air force, Kefka, Ultima weapon, statue of the gods, ultima buster, fiend, goddess and demon. The music fucking SLAPS no explanation needed. The graphics are really great and there are a ton of enemies with dope ass designs and some of them even look like boss fights. One thing i would like to point out is that i really loved that in the phoenix cave and in Kefka's tower you get to switch between different parties to solve puzzles and to get through to the end that was really cool. Now for my problems with the game RANDOM ENCOUNTERS AND GRINDING but other than that i personally didn't have many issues with this game. The story, the combat, the characters, the music, the bosses so many things about this game are done so well in my opinion
Final fantasy 6 for me is a 10/10

This is the version of Final Fantasy VI I’ve played the most by far and thus I have a certain nostalgia for it, even if I never really get into the postgame content and started noticing the sound difference from the SNES original a lot more as I got older. It’s still Final Fantasy VI at the end of the day, arguably among the 5 or 10 greatest games ever made.

i am pretty much in love with this game despite the world of ruin being a bit of a drag... whenever i replay this again, because it's definitely a game i'm going to replay, it'll probably be the pixel remaster (with amano portrait mods of course) for the qol features (random encounters my beloathed)

I know it's not entirely the game's fault due to the crappy GBA sound chip, but the audio downgrade in this version lessens the experience. I wish they had released this on the DS instead (which had already been out for over two years at this point). Classic Square Enix move.

I love the story, but unfortunately this is a game. And while I love a lot of story-driven games with mediocre gameplay, the gameplay in this one is actively terrible. Oh well.

I swear I have a save backup of this somewhere.

funnily enough, i think this game's greatest strength (its rotating ensemble of characters) is also its greatest weakness (terra really should have just been considered the protagonist, and the story really should have fully committed to centering around her). other than that, one of the better final fantasys with memorable moments and characters (particularly terra and celes). nobuo uematsu delivers another spectacular ost as well!

I found the fantasy to be VERY final in this game, as the world faced much danger. Extremely enjoyable experience.
