FE Fates is a mixed bag. Conquest offers more challenge and more mature story. It's probably the best of the three. Birthright allows backtracking and unit grinding, so a lot of the enjoyment there is laxed team building. Revelations is so insanely terrible that it brought down the entire package for me. I enjoyed aspects of Fates, but it's clear why the FE community hold it to so much disdain.

i dont have a foot fetish so it's meh

No sé, me desagrada mucho. Me parece horrible.

Was expecting Team Hoshido to change the game up a bit, but they're basically a cosmetic skin. I already played dozens of hours of Awakening, I don't fancy doing it all again.

Only halfway through Revelation as of writing this but I thought I’d write my review now as I don’t see my opinions so far changing anytime soon but Fire Emblem Fates has been a really baffling experience for me. For everything it does right on a gameplay front, it seems to do everything wrong from a story point of view.

The gameplay is everything you could ask for and more. Building your units has never genuinely felt better than it does here, it’s easy and incredibly intuitive even for someone like me who likes to barrel her way through these games without really paying attention to what I’m really doing with my builds. The map designs are really hit or miss lije always, especially in Birthright but good lord, the maps in Conquest are really the most fun I’ve had with the series in years. Some of the gimmicks can be a bit annoying but they never take away from the fun gameplay loop that Fire Emblem consistently delivers.

I can’t really say the same about the story and in particular, the writing in the game as a whole. Most, if not all the characters in the main story are incredibly shallow, one-note and only exist to deliver exposition before disappearing completely. The pacing in both Birthright and especially Conquest are also just egregiously terrible and with the story giving you no time to connect with these characters, emotional beats fall incredibly flat. The world-building is next to nonexistent with the story choosing to focus solely on the Kingdoms of Nohr and Hoshido while also failing to explore in any meaningful manner.

That’s not to say there isn’t anything in Fates to love because on the contrary there’s a lot. The music is phenomenal, the character designs are some of the best in the series to date and the overall aesthetic is amazing. The characters are shallow but some are incredibly charming in their own right, the supports can range from questionable to really good and adorable but there is something there I think, Fates has charms in spades almost in spite of itself.

Now, the question is ultimately “Should you play this game?” and my answer will always be yes. Fire Emblem Fates is a very confusing mess that tries INCREDIBLY hard to justify it’s three routes at the cost of a coherent overarching story and some of it’s narrative decisions are utterly baffling but the characters are so lovable and charming despite their lack of depth and they make that extremely subpar story ultimately worth going through with the help of the game’s amazing backbone that is it’s gameplay, music and overall aesthetic.

(also they have the really weird baby dimension for the offsprings of your units and that is incredibly funny)

Story kinda meh but the gameplay is phenomenal imo.

the gay pairings mod I played this with gave me more joy than anything in the actual game. I don't think I would have gotten as far as i did without it. still not enough to get me to finish revelations though.

This game fucking sucks, not even using a translation patch instead of the shitty localization and restoring censored content saves it. Not even Camilla's big ara ara stepsis titties fucking save it

i never had special edition but i have similar opinions on all three routes: theyre ok

Unlike many, I actually really liked Fates. While not a perfect game, it certainly did the path system better than Three Houses. My favourite path was probably Conquest, followed by Revelations, then Birthright.

((IntSys, add my pickle loving baby boy Hisame to FEH please, thank you <3))

I'm only rating this to flex that I own it

Has it’s flaws which are a ton but a fun entry in the franchise with good replay value.

I do not understand the hate
Then again it was my first tactics game

My first Fire Emblem and largely my gateway into games with actual characters and storylines. Looking back, the writing was mostly nothing special, but I really enjoyed building up character supports. And I didn't really know what I was doing, but I guess the gameplay was engaging enough for me to play through all three routes to completion.

holy moly the story sucks
HOLY MOLY THESE MAPS SUCK
I started, and then proceeded to quit playing every route

-Yanks finger out of nose with big booger I love demeaning anime tropes and values 😜
-Birthright is the game equivalent of daycare. You would've thought the weapon triangle was removed if you were only paying attention to the baby rattle that is the melodrama that goes nowhere.
-Ryoma and company are sooo boooorrriiiing like widderwally. I had no remorse in my soul when they died in other runs.
-Conquest is better, but they pace it in a way where your forced to couple up your units together for more stages. Skill inheritence is pretty epic from Awakening, but it makes no story sense here. Also, the game giving you the option to marry them, these children who were put in a cave where time moves faster; I'm gonna be sick 🤮
-Cast is good in this one, with Takumi as one of the main baddie being pretty fun. Deaths from Hoshido feel like they matter. Three awakening characters coming back also made me wojak point and gasp at the screen.
-I've had more memorable school bathroom stall experiences than the whole of Revelations. If you want real fanfiction, go check out wherever those Sonic X Writer stories are 😏
-Not one support conversation between the two version's cast is memorable. What. a. waste 😴
-No more streetpass, no more Flora in the party, sorry kid
-I wish Alex G was in this game

Not actually blood-related? Not even with the people you are said to be actually related to? Your """Birthright""" you could say? What?! - A summary.

Played through the conquest route and still need to play the others, not a huge fan but fire emblem is fire emblem

This is the single worst FE game in history.
The maps are bland and EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER in your party wants to suck your cock and they don't even try to hide it. They all love you so fucking much and I HATE THIS.

I can't be bothered logging three separate entries so I'll summarise here.

Birthright, dogshit and easy, Ryoma is so fucking broken
Conquest, good challenge, still dogshit but I want Camilla's boobs in my gob, malig knight is great class
Revelations, super dogshit

I fucking despise avatar characters in FE

The gameplay in this game is phenomenal. Taking what Awakening had gameplay-wise and retuning it to be a much more fun experience with dymanic gameplay.

However, it's story is definitely a step down from Awakenings. I have so many issues with the story in all three paths, having played them all. Theres so much lost potential within its story and its characters.

Also, I have major issues with incestual content...its really weird and we could've done without it.

But overall, a fun game to return to for its gameplay, but not its story. Currently doing a challenge run with all units Heart Sealed.

The most fanservice. boring cash grab of a game I have ever played

Fates is an odd entry in the series. Birthright has just boring combat that is just way too easy. Conquest is actually pretty good combat-wise. And Revelations just has a lot of odd, unneeded mechanics that are used once on a single map and never again. Birthright also has a boring story, Conquest has a terrible story, and Revelations is pretty ok. The characters are fine, but they suffer so much from being written to be one-dimensional. All characters have one or two goofy traits that take over their entire personality.
Final score: 6/10

Well all I can say is, it’s not my “cup of tea.” But for real, I was bloated with characters I didn’t care for. Gameplay was as expected. Not bad though!

bad story. not a huge fan of the incest plotline. great gameplay.

Camilla's giant rack must have help her balance, since she had to carry my entire playthrough on her back
