After playing through the previous two Frog Detective games the previous week, my friend and I finally got to playing through the third and final one this week. We did it just as we did the other two, with them controlling it and me doing the bulk of the voice work, and we did it over the course of three or so hours between two Twitch streams.

The third Frog Detective game, as the title suggests, takes place in Cowboy Canyon, and you’re here to solve the mystery of who stole everyone’s hats! There’s a bit more to this game than the previous two, and it’s about twice as long as a result, even if the same overall principles apply. It’s another simple adventure game where you walk around, talk to people, and do trading quests, but it’s back and better than ever this time. The graphics are also once again similar but just that much more polished than the previous entry, with more animations and larger locations this time. I’d go as far as to say the map here may be as large as the previous two game’s maps combined, and what could be more appropriate for Frog Detective’s biggest adventure yet.

Verdict: Recommended. If you liked the previous two Frog Detective games, then this one is a no-brainer of a pick up. The story and writing are the best they’ve ever been, and it’s a lovely bow on the end of the series. If you have any interest in adventure games at all and you don’t mind something that doesn’t get too heavy (and certainly doesn’t outstay its welcome length-wise), then this is a great pick up along with the rest of the trilogy.

Frog detective is gay

What a charming little trilogy.

All three games together have a runtime of about 3 hours, and the gameplay is very simple -- you collect items from the environment and trade them with other characters to get what you need to solve the mysteries. I'd say it lands a bit closer to walking simulator than what you'd expect from point and click games.

The fun comes from the goofy, sometimes absurd, and frequently awkward writing. I was grinning throughout the series, and even laughed out loud on multiple occasions. Top that off with enjoyable music and cute artistic direction, and you've got a great package. There's nothing mind blowing here, but the ending managed to be surprisingly impactful for such a short, silly series. Definitely worth the time!

This one was awesome. I spent a lot of time just cruising around on the scooter. Crime isn't real.

I'll echo the other reviews for Frog Detective 3 and say that this game is easily the best in the trilogy. Yet again it is iterative on the other two games but, much like 2, it is an improvement in every aspect.

For one, I thought the story was the best in the series. What starts off as a typical lightweight case around finding out who stole all the hats in Cowboy County becomes something a lot...I hesitate to call it darker but it definitely takes a turn to the serious. For one the denizens of this world nearly create prison and crime, which is certainly a dark development in an otherwise fluffy adventure. I also thought the characters were the best in the trilogy. More nuanced, for one, which is a ridiculous statement about a game called Frog Detective but it was certainly the case. Not everyone was happy-go-lucky and nice. It showed a real maturation of the writing in the developers to expertly sprinkle in some darkness without overpowering the hilariously naïve and earnest world we've grown to love throughout the trilogy.

Frog Detective 3 continues the journey of each game become more of a 'game' than an interactive sequence. This time not only is there a bit more interactivity in the dialogue and a couple more puzzles added in, but a scooter is added in. Yep, a scooter. It is gallons of fun riding about the area jumping over things and messing about. The world isn't necessarily big enough to wholly justify its existence but I loved riding it all the same (plus there is a hilarious achievement attached to it).

As always the wit is as strong as ever and it is the funniest it has ever been. Handing a particular photograph to a character had me cracking up the most, along with one of the final moments before the typical Frog Detective post-credits sequence. Honestly I have laughed more in each game in this series than I ever have whilst playing a video game. I'll reiterate that it is so impressive that the humour is so good.

Finally I have to really shout out the music. The scores in the previous games were good but this one blows them out of the water. It is a perfect mixture of the slinky jazz typical of the other games and what can be called 'Cowboy music' - think of a cowboy film and it echoes that. It subtly changes as the game goes on as well, which I appreciated. Also shout out to the scooter riding music, it really added to the fun of riding about.

So yeah, like I said , Frog Detective 3 is the best game of the trilogy and a fitting way to end it all. So, what did I think of the trilogy as a whole? I thought it was delightful. It was a real pallet cleanser and lifted my spirits during this dull January. Grace Bruxner has become one of those developers who I am dying to see what they do next.

P.S. Please top trying to invent crimes, crime is not real.

In a world where crime doesn't exist, one frog is looking to solve it anyway, and he's doing it... ON A SCOOTER!

Frog Detective 3's introduction of scooter technology into video gaming, allowing full use of a scooter in game, is revolutionary and sets a new industry standard. If you put out a game in 2024 and it doesn't have a scooter in it, you should quit making games.

What a great way to end the trilogy. The writing is the best it's been, with some genuinely great subversion. I had a big dumb grin on my face basically the whole way through.

One of the best games I've ever played, hands down.

frog detective said abolish prisons :)

They gave this frog a gay love story and it really doesn't get any better than that.

Este juego calienta el corazón y purifica el alma.

This is definitely the best one. Most developed plot and characters, best setting and music, the way it connects to and plays with the first two games' formula is fun and cute and it ends on an incredibly heartfelt note. I spent an embarrassing amount of time ripping around on the scooter.

fantastic wrap up to the series, the fake end credits gag was 10/10. still a shame how long it takes to log/remove items from your journal but the items were more spaced out so at least it didnt feel as brutal.
all in all though the best game of the bunch easily, also gay representation in a game you love to see it

Frog Detective 3 sees the conclusion (for now?) to the story of the eponymous amphibian, taking them to the sands of Cowboy County to solve the mystery of the missing hats. New gameplay elements include a scooter, which also allowed for a larger environment... and that's it. The rest is the same point-n'-click, item trade chain type of game.

Anyone who's made it to game three in the trilogy already knows what it's like, and whether or not it's for them, but nevertheless: Frog Detective is a great pick for young kids, who will probably adore the cute visuals, witty writing and the scooter. As for the adults, it's a bit more hit-or-miss. There's very little complexity to the investigation, so it's up to how much the jokes land.

On a side note, it's such a bummer that none of the games in the trilogy used the magnifying glass for something.

What an absolutely delightful end to the trilogy. What a fun, silly little game. A joy. Some fun new mechanics, a great story, some good jokes and commentary. Great stuff.

look frog detective is very charming but its been diminishing returns since the first game.

I NEED MORE OF THESE STORIES, PLEASE <3

Actual emotional ending <3
