Guitar Hero 5 is the jam! The setlist is killer, finally some newer songs and interesting choices, and the Party Play mode is just perfect for hanging out with friends. The graphics look a bit cartoony, and the story stuff is cheesy as heck, but honestly? It's about rocking out on plastic instruments and having a good time, and Guitar Hero 5 delivers big time on that front.

Why does Pandora look like a Teletubby? I'd be saying nothing new by mentioning the clear evidence of genre apathy having set in by this point - which can still be felt in it strongly to this day - or a setlist with almost a 1:1 ratio of songs that matter versus mid filler songs. Though perhaps I'd be treading some new ground by stating just how fucking UGLY this game is - given the era, they made the confounding decision to replace the charming highway designs with a plain jet black across all characters, along with EVERY venue being all washed-out and gross. And if you thought Guitar Hero World Tour's encore events were uneventful, ohh... just you wait and see these duds. But at the end of the day, it's that unmistakable Guitar Hero gameplay with a fairly smooth engine - and the songs that rip here really rip: Shout it Out Loud, Blue Orchid, Feel Good Inc., Sweating Bullets, Only Happy When it Rains, Ring of Fire, Sympathy for the Devil, Sex on Fire, Lithium, Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting), Jailbreak, Hungry Like the Wolf, Hurts So Good, Sultans of Swing, Runnin' Down a Dream, A-Punk, What I Got, Du Hast, Under Pressure, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, Comedown, All the Pretty Faces, Kryptonite, Dancing with Myself, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Fame, Play That Funky Music, So Lonely, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Superstition, Woman From Tokyo, You Give Love a Bad Name... like Jesus Cristo the sheer POWER on display only for it to still be just "eh, pretty good". Shame they went with the shittier Zakk Wylde "Bring the Noise" instead of the infinitely superior Anthrax version that was on THPS2 :/

A solid entry on the Guitar Hero franchise. Played quite a bit on the PS3 era.

Got this as a christmas present when I was younger but santa forgot the controller

Must've spent about 20 hours on the title screen just listening to the music

Underrated entry. The setlist has lots of very well known and unknown bangers. The game itself also looks miles better than World Tour. Unfortunately not as gamechanging as that game was. Fun Times

This Guitar Hero has a lot of really neat ideas. 4 players can play any combination of instruments that they like. In the career mode, you can earn bonus stars in songs by completing unique challenges for each one. The art style was massively improved in this one too.

GH3 might have been the most hyped, but the real ones know that this and World Tour are the best entries.

I feel like anything I say about any Guitar Hero game can literally be said about any other game in the franchise, if you like the idea of a goofy party game where you hold a chunk of plastic shaped like a guitar for ants and pretend you're a rock star with your buddies, then you'll like any Guitar Hero game, and if you don't like that idea you sound kinda lame in all honesty.

It made some nice changes here and there and was a good game, but it did lag behind other titles in the series. It once again helps that it came at a time when a new plastic instrument game was coming out every time you blinked, breathed, or took a sip of water.

Major rhythm game fatigue hit right about here.

This is the installment where even I got tired of the yearly bullshit.

bro they put king crimson in this

21st Century Schizoid Man on Drums is torture

Its fine. Had some really good downloadable songs. Plus some of the best character customization in the series. you can play as your shitty xbox avatar, man.

The modern set list is one of my personal favorites, plays much better on the 360 compared to the ps2 port, probably goes without saying lol.

Pretty sure this was the one i played the least so I don't remember any of the songs. All in all every guitar hero is the same with different songs

King Crimson and Elliott Smith are in this which is pretty cool but it still doesn't have the same MAGIC as the other ones.

It's a game. It's guitar hero. If you like guitar hero, you are gonna like this. The setlist is relatively diverse, albiet maybe a bit more leaning towards pop music over metal and rock. I heard beforehand that this game was the straw that apparently broke the camels back and made guitar hero more leaning to casuals, and I can kind of see that but also not really? Most of the setlist was very easy but the last few songs are still good fun. This game also has a completely revamped graphics engine which looks very good in action, so that's neat. There are also bonus challenges for certain songs that are actually really difficult, so GH maniacs still have fun things to do I feel. Overall, it's more guitar hero. You can't go wrong with guitar hero, though I can see why constant releases of just more guitar hero would definitely fatigue the audience into the franchises decline.

Not the best but it's still fun.

A rhythm game that was so shitty, Courtney Love sued Activision over it. No wait, it's because they let the Kurt Cobain model be utilized for any song, not just the Nirvana tracks.

I'm not going to give Guitar Hero 5 points for "playing just fine" since it changed literally none of its format from 4. That work was already done for them. The visual aspect is so lacking and oddly dark, and all the guest appearances feel pathetically hollow, more so than in the previous game.

Second playthrough review:
Man this is probably just my favorite GH and probably rhythm game in general. The songs, the characters, the venues. They all create an amazing feeling for me. I don't feel this happy playing most games, this is special to me.

First playthrough review:
Amazing setlist, game feels great to play.
Standout songs are -
Brianstorm - Arctic Monkeys (not biased)
Incinerate - Sonic Youth
L.A. - Elliot Smith
