Extremely mediocre. Some fun traversal mechanics, but for the most part they're wasted on samey colorful but uninspired environments with bad gunplay and mediocre gameplay otherwise. A bit of slog to get to point a to point b with little in the way of rewarding elements from doing the task to what you get out of it. I typically think about half of borderlands' humor is poor, and this copied all of its notes out of that half of their book, and didn't bother crafting much of a story beyond that. There were fun bits, but mostly it was a disappointment. The best part was playing with a pal, but that only enhances it slightly, and makes it faster to beat.
This was a game I was really excited for and bought on a sale then forgot to play for years. The game has character but it was quite the slog and the ending was really disappointing. I didn't end up going for the true ending of powering on the ship, as I was already burnt out by the normal ending. I looked up the cutscene and was glad I didn't go for it because I would have only left even more upset.
Journey to the Savage Planet is a lot better of an idea than it is as an actual game. Throughout the game, you get to see many different ideas that are pretty interesting sometimes, but there’s also a feeling of sloppiness to it all as well. Everything in this game just feels rough and not fully ready. The shooting feels bad, the platforming feels bad, everything feels bad. Honestly, the only reason I remember it fondly is cause I played it with a friend, which is something that adds a lot to the experience. Exploring a new planet and discovering new life is an idea that has so much potential and is something I would really like to play. It just sucks that when a game tries to follow this idea, it just ends up like this.
A comical Metroidvania-light featuring strong item-based progression and successful level design evoking games like Metroid Prime. The comedic edge is generally quite fun, and the alien world you explore is visually very interesting. A sleeper hit from earlier this year that’s great as either a single-player adventure or a co-op romp!

This game suffers from the same problems as a game that came out later: High on Life. A lot of the game runs off of its humor, but the humor ends up being cringy more than anything else. It's so in your face all the time that it becomes hard to appreciate the other parts that might be more interesting.
The game ends up being an interesting enough 3D metroidvania. The world is colorful with some interesting enemies. I just with the attempts at humor would get out of the games own way.

This game sits right in the middle of good and bad for me. The game is pretty fun right off the bat for the first few hours. I did this co-op with a friend, and I really liked the implementation of that feature a lot; it made the game a lot more enjoyable to me.
Buuuuut this game has a lot of weak points. The humor gets old and gets worse as the game goes on. It's almost as bad as Borderlands at some moments, maybe even a bit worse. A lot of the zones feel monotonous and not fun to explore too, especially at the end. The level design could have definitely used some work. The final area and boss in particular were both unfun and anticlimactic.
We did play the DLC too, and I DO think that was one of the better segments of the game. It still wasn't GREAT, but it was still fun enough.
Overall, this is the okayest game I've played in a while. I feel if I didn't have a friend to play this with, I probably wouldn't have finished it. I have more negative things to say than positive things, but the first few hours of the game ARE fun, and the DLC is good, too. But it kind of sucks that a game that took almost 9 hours to complete with DLC got tedious, when that's sort of short for a game like this.
