Funny overworked frog that blasts everything and saves the world with a jacket. Twice. Or even thrice if you count the omake mode.
The game is more akin to a run-and-gun than a platformer game, despite my initial preconceptions. Do be warned that stages have plenty of harmful environments.
If you're going for all achievements keep Kuro Blaster at lvl 2 unless you really care about a secret. You'll thank me later

I just don’t understand the appeal of regressing so far into an era of technology that’s objectively worse than what is available today without updating even a single thing to be consistent with today’s standards.

From the creator of cave story comes a smaller yet no less fun adventure. Do I find this game as influential or deep as cave story? Not at all.
But is it a fun time? Absolutely, and it has a lot of replay value with the weapon upgrade system and multiple playthroughs.
The Story is simple but fun, and the music is on par with Cave Story in my personal opinion. It is hard to believe both these games were made by a single incredibly passionate man.
The game also includes a hard mode with its own story and a pretty hardcore finale on par with Running Hell from Cave Story if you were to ask me.
If you enjoy platforming action games, especially run and gun type games, this is a pretty great one.

absolutely incredible how we're nearly 20 years out from cave story and nobody has come even close to matching pixel in the arena of making a retro platformer that feels this good to play. just an absolute joy, trading cave story's more open world for some phenomenal linear level design. the music too, god. nobody makes that shit like pixel does. makes me mad how good he is at this seemingly effortlessly
the special thanks to tyrone rodriguez in the credits really got me too lol

Nothing quite like Pixel's music. Instantly recognizable, pulls you right in. Best enjoyed when thinking of Cave Story and the time you downloaded it because some anonymous figure put it up as a newly discovered instant classic. It was free, you gave it a shot, core memory formed.
Also, genuinely shocked Cat never became a pfp staple.

This is a great little run & gun that does little to innovate but nails the execution. That's all that really matters anyway. Good study material for level designers. It looks nice and the music & sound design is great.
There is some crust in staying so true to its roots. The control scheme is pretty awkward. Switching weapons is a pain, and sometimes turning around while shooting doesn't work the way you'd expect. You also have to retread the entire level on a game-over, which can get a little annoying in the later levels (which are relatively long) but the game is only about 2-3 hours anyway so this is hardly an issue.
Bottom line is that you should play Kero Blaster if you've ever enjoyed a game where you shoot a gun and "side scroll".

A really fun and charming platformer. I find the art appealing despite the low resolution and the music is really good too. I think the difficulty is average but there are a couple of harder bonus modes after beating the main story. The premise itself is rather amusing to me.
The game is also lightweight and runs on pretty much anything so it's an easy recommendation.
