Amazing rpg using an old pc style for the gameplay was pretty genius. I never actually realized it was a rougelike until after I beat it cos I breezed through the game pretty easily.
My biggest complaint with the the game is the awful storage system, instead of just upgrading your main storage you get a bunch of mini storages that go inside your main one so you have constantly go in and out of different menus when sorting items its just really annoying.
I can definitely see my self coming back to this game occasionally for a new run

i dunno. it seems silly that if you get bodyhorror you basically instantly win the game no matter what, and i got bodyhorror 2 runs in a row. game's kinda tedious as well in all honesty. also inventory management is truly horrific, its funny at first but it gets stale real quick.
the aesthetic is charming and all, and the combat has some interesting ideas, but at the end of the day there's honestly not much here. maybe im missing something.

Extremely charming! The sound design is so incredibly well done, especially the simulated hard drive noises. There's such a deep reverence here for like, Windows 98, that it's easy to overlook the fact that there's a really solid retro D&D inspired roguelike underneath all of the nostalgia.
Gets a bit repetitive over long stretches, but I'll definitely be returning to it over time to try and get all of the various endings.
* Played flawlessly on Linux via Proton 6.3-8

Normal ending, and I think I'll be calling it here for now having enjoyed my time. I know there are more involved endings, but after having seen how to exploit the combat system to the point of near invincibility, I have a hard time imagining it'll feel all that different. I'll leave them for if I ever get the urge to replay this.
Apart from the lovely retro appeal (I'll forever stand by late 90s GUIs and their primarily academic research-driven design), I really like this kind of window-based game. It reminds me of being a kid trying to figure Civ 2 and Freeciv out and being perplexed by a video game having more in common with Microsoft Word than Half-Life.

kingsway is such an ideal roguelike. i really bounced off this game the first time i played it. the ui seemed dense and hard to keep track of, the mechanics felt obtuse and confusing, i often felt incredibly overwhelmed and weak compared to everything i was up against. then everything just... clicked into place! i knew where i liked everything, i knew what numbers i wanted to go up and what items i needed and didn't. i started relishing certain events and areas, getting excited at a new modifier on a weapon that complements a build i'm doing perfectly. even if it all seems impossible at first, eventually it all just comes together!
this game has some incredible endings as well. the writing and story itself isn't too interesting or unique by my standards anyway (at least the original ones, the more recent update added a real fun one) and i really love how easy it was to figure out how to reach different endings without resorting to looking anything up. even the most esoteric one makes itself pretty clear after a handful of runs.
anyway if you like roguelikes and think this ones gimmick looks charming, give it a shot. the game is cheap. also the game has a little picrew customizer to make a little face for your character, but you can also upload custom images to it and it's obviously a very small thing, but i just think that's very cute and fun.

Very interesting and fun user interface that hearkens back to old multi-window RPGs like Ultima. Unfortunately it also gets a bit tiring and samey like a lot of older dungeon crawlers used to. Definitely worth a run or two. There are apparently several different endings, but after beating it twice with the most obvious ending I didn't really feel it was worth continuing.
