Bloody as hell, looks like a cool indie comic, amazing voice acting, satisfying high score based gameplay, really fucking good. What it lacks in some of the cool story beats that No More Heroes has, it makes up for in satisfying brutality. It also does still have cool story beats for the record. Amazing start for Platinum games. Also Nu Metal as hell

Although the main advantage of Madworld is the insane art direction the game itself is really good. Many people consider it one of Platinum's worst, which may be true...but even Platinum's mid games are fantastic.
The combat is slower and not as flashy as you expect from them, but it's really fun.
This one screams for an HD remake.

Stylish and violent, for being Platinum's first outing this game oozes charm. Its violent black and white aesthetic (outside of blood and some ui) is one of the most interesting looking games Ive ever seen. Its crude humor may not be for everyone but I sure as hell loved every second with this one. Also the music is fucking balling.

MadWorld is a game I REALLY want to like but whenever I go back to it, I either get bored or stuck and give up until I pick it up again years later. This time I wanted to give it a proper go in time for the 15th anniversary, but my patience wore thin by the time I got to the castle area.
I was already feeling that the stages were becoming a bit monotonous with how much point pushing it felt like was needed each time just to get to the boss fight, but not only does the castle area ramp this up, but it also introduces annoying BS which feels like runtime padding considering on average this game takes 5-10 hours not really including all the times you need to reset 20 mins back to the start of the stage. In particular on the shitlist, this level has:
- Randomly spawning enemy that takes 1 life per hit. You have 3 lives per stage.
- Enemies that grab you, forcing you to perform a QTE to avoid the one hit death enemy.
- Enemies that can only be attacked in a certain way as they otherwise respawn in packs. Only method of attack that works uses up a pretty fast draining attack meter and has to be done in a certain direction subject to motion controls working.
- A bossfight on average 20 mins into the stage where you are ganged up on by around 10 creatures that respawn when you kill them.
After already struggling with other levels for an hour or so beforehand and debating throwing in the towel, dying right at the end of this ordeal was as good as reason as any to figure that it doesn't get much better than this (I've heard it does, but I don't want to sit through this stage multiple times to find out to be completely honest, a complete moodkiller when said mood was just already "meh").
Sick soundtrack, mostly good presentation (enemies blend too much into the background sometimes due to black and white) and an intriguing plot do a lot of heavy lifting, but monotony and stage design sink the ship. Also, why is this game stuck in 480i? It came out in 2009. Not only could it have looked way better, but it would've helped with the colour clashing issues this game can sometimes suffer from. Don't really see Platinum pulling this game out of their backcatalogue (even with heavy re-edits since some things are pretty dated) but something that would at least help it somewhat.

Never bothered to finish this though I got pretty far. The Wii motion controls are just really not good at all, which is a shame because the actual gameplay is really good fun, especially when combined with its legendary soundtrack, probably the best in gaming history. The visuals are also excellent though I remember the art style getting a little overwhelming on the eyes at times. I WISH this game would get a console port with regular controls so it could hit a 7 or an 8 potentially, such a shame.
Personally, I really liked this game. It deserves more than what it got.
+ Awesome visual style and action
+ Memorable Boss encounters
+ Surprisingly good soundtrack
It's ridiculous, bloody, and vulgar. It really feels like you're playing through a graphic novel. The aesthetics truly are one of its greatest strengths.
You can clearly see the hints of Bayonetta and other Platinum/Clover games in this game.
It made me laugh quite a bit too.
It is one of those games that does become a little more style over substance as it goes on.
- Combat does get repetitive
- Camera is not that great.
- It's on the short side (Pro & Con tbh)
It's not as robust as Bayonetta or even Viewtiful Joe. It left me wanting more.
A lot of this I could excuse because it kept me excited to see how we'd takeout the next boss, and the story was somewhat intriguing.
It's not perfect, but there is fun to be had.
I wish MadWorld had become more of a thing. It has a lot of potential!

An incoherent mess of wasted potential. Clunky controls (and no, that's not solely due to motion control implementation), poor visual design (aesthetically, having black & white art is neat - but it makes it difficult to navigate spaces in-game as a result), and absolutely awful "humor" (I muted the announcers the first chance I could), make an already mediocre action game even worse. It doesn't help that the game's scoring system seems purposefully designed to make you play the game in as un-fun a way as you can possibly manage.
There are several other Wii games way more enjoyable than this. If you want a gory violent action game to enjoy, play No More Heroes instead.

Madworld does an amazing job at having its own identity, the black and white comic book look with red blood looks super cool. Combined with the stage variety, bosses, soundtrack, and those commentators. It has a perfect style.
That doesn’t mean it’s flawless though. Some stages are way too simple or complex, the camera can be awkward, some motion controls feel forced, and the game crashed on me a few times when too much stuff was happening.
Comparing this game to No More Heroes shows some obvious similarities. While I think No More Heroes is better, Madworld is still a great game that deserves more recognition. A remaster would be amazing to see.

Somebody save this game from the Wii and get it on another platform, please.
One of the most stylish and aesthetically poignant games I've ever played. Everything from the monochrome look to the lowbrow humor from the announcers to the fantastic soundtrack that made me get more into hip-hop makes this game almost untouchable when it comes to a sense of style. It's fast, furious and bloody.
As a game, it starts off as a fun arcade game where you fuck people up in the most creative ways possible to earn points, but in later difficulties and levels the difficulty ramps up and starts demanding more from the player. It starts off as not a particularly hard game nor a long one, and the replay value comes from replaying through the game on higher difficulties. One could call the gameplay a shallow experience, but I don't think it overstays its welcome long enough to warrant that criticism.
If you can find this game for cheap, it's absolutely worth looking into. There are few games like it and it's just a rip-roaring good time.

FUCK SHIT UP! CHAINSAW GOES VROOM! LOWBROW HUMOR! THIS GAME FUCKING RULES!
PlatinumGames really said let's start with a bang and they have, I love this game so much, it's some of the most fun I had with a game. It's especially great on a real Wii but Dolphin will do you fine too, like it did me. Only flaw with this game is that the story takes itself too seriously and thinks it's some deep analogy of human nature of violence or something, it's really not lol this game shouldn't try to take itself seriously like that and as a result I didn't care much for the story but it's very easy to toss to the background cuz of how much insanity happens and how good the gameplay is.
Wonder if Platinum will ever port this to PC, I dunno how fun itd be without motion controls but I'm sure they can make it feel good as a regular KBM/controller beat em up
