One of my most favorite games overall, and my most favorite shmup. Love the settings with giant insects and adventurous atmosphere of stage 3. This game is a good entry for newcomers who wish to get into shmups.
I have original and maniac clears, don't have plans for ultra, I'm not ready for such a big challenge, actually I'm just scared.

BUGS! Fun game with great patterns. Systems are fine, but the visuals and music make it stand out.

"The only good bug is a dead bug."

llevo queriendo jugar a esto desde que escuche a dross hablar de el aquella fatidica tarde del año 2010

I'm not an expert on the genre but this game is great. The novice difficulty level is very begginer friendly and recommended for people trying to get into bullet hell shmups. The scoring system is very basic, just shoot and collect everything, which is not a bad thing. The giant bugs theme is also nice.

My only complaints are the lack of a challenges mode (e.g. Finish stage 1 without using bombs) or achievements. Something to change the pace and create a more complete experience.

Mushihimesama's surprise Switch drop was one of my favorite E3 announcements this year.

There's nothing extra added, it's just Mushihimesama. But it's an excellent port. It sounds great. It looks great, everything is so clear. I mean, you can really see how furry and gross some of these bugs are as you murder them. It's rad.

I love that it's so easy to play in tate mode with the Switch. It just feels better to play a vertical shmup when it takes up the whole screen. The Switch is perfect for this and I know there are plans to bring two more CAVE shooters to the console but I hope they consider even more.

BEHOLD THE BUG MADNESS.

My first exposure to the intense miasma that is MUSHIHIMESAMA was the infamous "HARDEST BOSS EVER" vid that made its rounds back in the late 2000s. I was probably just ten years old, and vividly remember being stunned by just how impossible it all looked. I think around this time I was also learning of stuff like IWBTG and the speedfreak pros of Stepmania / ITG, but something about Mushi really left me in a state of wonderment. I remember barely being able to see what was happening on the monitor of my parents' family computer, a 240p mess, this complete incalculable warzone of the color purple enveloping the screen at constant. It was baffling.

Only two months ago did I learn that video was actually from Futari and not the original.. There were certain sounds unconsciously ingrained into my head that, playing the OG, never appeared. The laughs of Queen Larsa, the fucking insane music, etc etc. I still hope to one day snag an X360 copy.

Anyways. Yeah this rules. I tried writing at length but no words can really do it justice, as its a bit difficult to sum up succinctly. Nothing really looks or sounds similar.. Each of the five stages contain this profoundly inspired arcade beauty, richly manicured with alienlike flying insects looking to murder at every instance. Enemies you blast explode in a hellfire of amber gem pickups, inflicting this feeling of utter dopamine as you are tightly surrounded by fleets of endless shifting bullet walls. A gorgeous, mesmerizing apocalypse. Your movement and reflexes will be tested to maximum capacity. Patterns are an absolute joyride to learn and swerve throughout. Multiple modes are available here, most of which contain three difficulties, and three ships to use. The fun just does not wear, and the eye candy never becomes stale. Endlessly replayable. Its a total bargain and likely one of the best shmups ever created. Or in any genre for that matter. Play it.

"Caso sejas um novato no género descobrirás que Mushihimesama é um excelente ponto de partida. Na esfera contrária constatarás que conteúdo palpável, infelizmente, é pouco para satisfazer o palato, mesmo com todos os modos e opções de personalização disponíveis. No entanto é uma aventura muito refinada e divertida, com um ritmo agradável de dificuldade e uma experiência audiovisual fantástica e peculiar. Salva-se também o preço de admissão simpático a ser pedido."

Amazing game. One of the best shmups I've played, for sure. Everything in this game is really top-notch. Beautiful and creative visuals, different from all the other bullet hell games, a great and soothing OST, smooth controls, nice and varied but still thematically consistent bosses. This is everything a game like this should strive to be, in my opinion. I really like the approach "easy to play and learn, hard to master" in all the Cave games I've played so far.

Weave through massive, intricate flowers of purple bullets, spiraling and rippling outward against beautiful, painterly backgrounds, all while being lulled into a trance by a heroin of warm, cozy slot-machine electronica.

This ain't bullet hell, it's bullet nirvana.

A standard bullet hell shmup with not much in the way of gimmicks beyond "dodge the purple stuff" and the theme of people riding giant bugs, but a really good one nonetheless. There's a lot of flexibility when it comes to gameplay and difficulty, with four different versions of the game with their own variations, including a Novice version that's great for people who want to get into bullet hell shmups, and three difficulties that span from "medium" to "all those little maggots in the trees in stage 1 shoot hundreds of bullets at you now". Great fun!

The Switch version is the Steam release with the Ver 1.5 DLC included, with the added bonus of being on the console one could put in a Flip Grip.
