"Press Y to quit like a big loser in life, press N to stay proud and successful"

certainly plenty of dumb bullshit present, especially as it goes on, but that doesn't really change it into not being one of the most fun to control FPSes of all time...

really makes you wonder if the outsized influence of the cinematic leanings of half-life resulted in the medium worse in the end, with the entire big budget space not content to finetune and speed up their games, instead opting to re-do ideas from hollywood but worse. there's very much been a push in the indie sphere to get back to this sort of thing and there's always gonna be a market for it, but the overwhelming decline in popularity of singleplayer fps campaigns (combined with the continued floppage of every comp-focused movement shooter) shows that it will probably be many years before we again see the year's biggest shooter be this snappy and transparent.*

*doom doesn't count. doom has a press to lock on and kill enemy button which changes the flow greatly, with eternal especially completely ignoring the aspect of quick environment traversal present here instead opting to lock you in big kill rooms until it decides to let you move on. games like ultrakill are the real continuations of this style

no es quake 2 pero esta divertido

it's cool, pretty fun and aged surprisingly well. idk what else to say about this game. play it if you haven't, it's short and still has a lot of value in it.

only 3/5 and not higher because it's almost too derivative of DOOM and has some quirks to it like the boss in episode 4 being odd and some things being unclear.

I want a Shambler fur rug to lay on during cold winter nights.

Like visiting your Grandpa and finding out exactly why your family is fucked up in the ways they are. For its slight imperfections and occasional frustrations, this is the ooze I crawled out of, the reflection staring back at me when I look in the mirror. The incoherent but indelible monsters, that soul-pounding Reznor score, the gorgeous industrial-gothic landscapes, the goofball chapter-ending paragraphs, these are the neurons that intertwine to create my mind. Quake is too definitional to what I love. It barely registers as a game. This is a divine manuscript by which the heavens bestowed onto us mortals a most holy of artefacts, the rocket jump. John Romero may be chained to a boulder, destined to have his spleen devoured by an Emu every day for the rest of time, but it is a small price to pay for such enlightenment.

Doom but you can face upwards

this is the best game of all time but isnt the best game that came out that week LMAO.

Dare I say ID Softwares magnum opus, there are simply not many games that nail the level of atmosphere that this game creates. The soundtrack by NIN alone is worth the play, not to mention the fast, and simple movement. Quake is a product of its time period and economic climate and shows that in stride. While I love Wolfenstein, and Doom as much as the next guy, but there truly is only one Quake.

um dos melhores FPS de PC melhor que doom pra mim

One of my favorite singleplayer campaigns in a shooter, moreso than doom. What the fuck is a zeebo and why is it in the platform list

Ah yes, the real Doom II.

Energetic classic FPS action with a horror edge and a love for sick tunes, everything id Software did best. Big step back up from Doom II in my opinion--the levels here are more fun to navigate, the enemy pool isn't so expansive as to be so much to juggle, and restarting levels with everything I had going into them is far less frustrating than pistol-starting. Episode 3 of Quake is probably my favorite of the game's levels.

Interesting to realize just how much the reboot era of Doom takes after Quake--the Quad Damage power-up, arenas and progression accounting for verticality and movement, Eternal forgoing the pistol entirely like this game does, etc. Were the names and aesthetics of those newer games different, they might've passed for new Quake games instead.

Took a little bit for the game to click but once it did, it was satisfyingly fun. Easy recommendation. Shoutouts to the final boss having a name I don't feel comfortable saying (Thanks, Lovecraft.)

i'm not really that big on shooters in general, and when i tried doom i just did not glom with it all that much. so, i was gifted quake fairly recently, and gave it a shot because i got it for free. and MAN i had a great time with this. i played the steam remake, and everything about it felt super slick. i love the mix of sci-fi and medieval aesthetics, and the enemy designs are super grody and awesome. the spawns scared the shit out of me every single time i came across one, and i love them for that. also a big fan of shamblers, cool electric guys :] i loved all the weapons there were to choose from, lots of really fun tools to play around with. my favorite by far was the grenade launcher, bouncing shots to hit enemies out of reach was one of my favorite aspects of the combat. i think what made quake click for me more than doom was it's larger focus on movement, as opposed to doom's focus on combat. the jump, of course, was a pretty big addition, and you can tell the folks over at id software were ready to stretch their legs with the new physics engine, like with the aforementioned grenade launcher. ive only checked out the main quake campaign, but i've noticed the other options in the menu like scourge of armageddon, and i'm pretty excited to check those out. overall, quake holds up crazy well, and i can't recommend it enough

A fast paced fun fps, clearly showing its doom roots.

GOOD? (why is it so laggy for me?)
6,5/10 - Length
5,5/10 - Enjoyment
5,5/10 - Perfomance/Bugs
5,5/10 - Story/Experience
6,0/10 - Gameplay

Score = 5,8/10

Aside from the horrendous final boss, everything about this game feels like a modern title. Combat flow is insanely good, enemy design is majorly good (only bad one is that jumping exploding venomy looking thing) and aesthetics are absolutely amazing. It was a fun, high quality 4 hours. My score is 8.5/10, definitely play this if you are craving a fast-paced FPS game.

We all know that Quake 1 is one of the most important games in history. Is it basically Brown Doom with a Y-axis and a fondness for Nine Inch Nails? Yes, and that's what's so great about it. It's also an effortlessly iconic shooter that still feels good today. A few clunky aspects and inconsistent level quality give Quake a case of Super Mario World syndrome; it's often more fun to play custom levels in its engine than it is to actually play the original campaign. I guess that's the price you pay for changing games forever.

There are a million different ports and forks of Quake nowadays, and they're pretty much all fine, but I have no qualms recommending the Nightdive remaster. It's packed with extra content and quality-of-life features, runs well on modern platforms, and, seriously, even the Switch port is great (just take the time to calibrate the gyro aiming).

1996 people would've gone insane if you made them play this. it's incredible how much video games have progressed

Every good thing in shooters is from this game.

Pure audiovisual kino. (played on Ironwail)

The one of cases where PR team had written "The most important pc game ever" on one of it's posters and it was/is not presumptuous statement

It was cool as an experience but its kind of just okay, i wish there was more bosses to fight and the enemies weren't incredibly spongey. I'll play the expansions at one point, but this is just aight so far.

Tengo mil cosas que decir de este, y todas son buenas.
Es uno de los mejores shooters que jugue en mi vida
Bastante rapido y frenetico,

El ambiente gotico y el horror tech es una de las mejores tematicas que vi en mucho tiempo.

its an awesome fast paced classic fps game with a cool art style that they unfortunately stopped using after quake II
