I backed this game and don't regret it, but the DLC that I was supposed to get never came. It truly is more of R-Type Final, but that's not really a good thing.

Wanted to like this game, as someone who has played most of the past R-Type games, but the stages feel so lifeless.

The DLC stages are much better, which is really not a good sign because it shows that the team don't really have it in them to create good and new stages.

There's also the whole nonsense with R-Type Final 3 content being exclusive to PS5. Thanks for punishing those who got the wrong version of the game, I guess...?

shmups knock me on my ass so hard, especially R-Type, this game is like performing brain surgery with an Etch-a-Sketch, but the colorful understated body horror theming has always kept this series a favorite in my mind
where Final and Final 2 succeed is in being an orgiastic pleasure of beautiful backgrounds, alternate paths, and a long list of unlockable ships getting progressively more overpowered with all the design variation and power disparity of a DBZ roster
as sirpospin says in their review, the checkpoint system is pretty flawed, taking all your powerups away is really punishing, but if you're a shmup person you are probably used to this (I am not)
also, support Granzella who made this game
for those who aren't familiar, ever since the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami took out all-time great studio Irem and got their then-upcoming games Disaster Report 4 and Steambot Chronicles 2 canceled
I always felt bad for them after that, and seeing them come back from the dead like a phoenix in the form of Granzella a few years later, remaking their canceled game, was cool enough that it makes me want to support them on principle
Granzella is a good developer you should buy their games and support them and their head Kazuma Kujo (well, even if this game has a billion level DLCs)

Really fun when you start from the beginning of a stage. But the checkpoint system is flawed because when you get powerups from the beginning of the stage you feel more balanced as the stage goes on. Die in the middle of the level and it is rough. You may as well start over. Which would be fine but the story mode starts from level one so you are basically encouraged to only play the game all the way through without dying once.

It's good! I keep really wanting to like modern SHMUPS or really any SHMUPS and it's just not happening for me. I liked that Jamestown +. I think I just need more SHMUPS for babies. It looks, sounds, and feels good, just not my jam I guess.

Other than performance issues on Switch, what I've played thus far is pretty poggers.

Not really a review or anything but I've played a lot of this game. Like, more than would make any amount of sense. I'm kind of squeezing blood from stone at this point. Don't have an exact time, but it's at least 400 hours. Got all the DLC, will probably repurchase the updated rerelease on PS5 when I get around to it.

This was the game that opened my third eye and activated my shmup neuron. I'm still strongly convinced that shmups as a genre are almost exclusively for boomers, but maybe being a boomer is cool sometimes.

but yeah it's ok, needs less grinding i guess (play this game please i can't convince my friends to try it)

As a fan of this series, I would actually rate this 2 more stars higher than the indicated rating. So why is it actually low?

The game has a plethora of highly-expensive DLCs, and without it, the game is basically just a slightly-worse R-Type Final, which in itself can't hold a candle up to the older R-Type games save R-Type II.

The gameplay, like all R-Type games, rely less on twitch and more on memorization and trial and error.

I still wouldn't recommend this game if only because of its price point.

Dunno why I bought this, shit absolutely stinks. Sludgy, slow, ugly, and that's before you even start playing!

Jogo decepcionante

Way to hard to play when sozzled. Probably best to try it sober but I cba downloading it again

One of the funnest SHMUPs that I had the pleasure of backing.

The demo for this game simultaneously runs like shit, is almost condescendingly easy, and is 2 minutes long, but I can still tell you this will be far and away the best selling shmup this year because no one else cares to market theirs at all.

Play Natsuki Chronicles.
