i started playing on android in about 2020, moved to nintendo switch, and then dropped it (almost) indefinitely when i ended up inevitably getting bored. it's a grindy dress-up simulator that happens to also have a really beautiful story about environmental destruction if you pay close attention
the social functions are better than i've seen in most video games. it's heavy on consent - you can't even see people's avatars without them agreeing to let you look at them. but like any other social video game i'd recommend playing it with people you already know, because the playerbase skews pretty young and not only that, it ends up being kind of clique-y and therefore lonely. if you find someone who's willing to talk to a complete stranger chances are they're really fucking weird and might harass you in some way (been there, dealt with that)
... also the in-app purchases are kind of insanely priced. it's like 14 dollars for a little accessory on your character and if you don't buy it, it's gone. this game would be really magical if the developers didn't need to price things like that due to the state of the game industry. this wouldn't be as much of an issue if there were more things to do besides customizing your avatar.
despite all the negative stuff i have to say about it the game's charm heavily outweighs my criticisms. even on a lower-end device it still manages to be really pretty and any bugs that happen (that don't result in the player taking damage, but those get patched out quickly anyways) just end up being funny
(also honestly its popularity with kids is something i'm fine with because it's slow paced and isn't designed around being an overstimulating slot machine. i just wish the chat filter was at least a bit better)
edited out some redundant bits because i got really bad about mindlessly rambling in this one

I played this when it came to the Switch and started replaying it when it came to Steam. For the gameplay loop, it's only entertaining 3 times with the second time having some new stuff and the third time you can just explore more. The most fun you're going to have in this game is the social aspect. I'm not the most social person so I played this without talking with anyone and after the second loop I didn't enjoy it that much. Now I try to meet people, and it's probably the most fun part of the game.
Played through the initial set of story levels to get to the credits and the "Your real journey is just beginning..." message. Don't think I'm going to bother logging in daily or otherwise engaging much with the F2P GaaS elements, but if you're a fan of Journey or any of the numerous games it inspired, it's still worth checking out (it's free, after all) just to see how it mixes Journey-esque levels with an MMO. The level design, story, and pacing are unsurprisingly not up to par with Journey or other top-tier games in that genre, but I had a number of nice online interactions (either passively, with messages left behind by other players, or by actively interacting with them; another player helped guide me through an obstacle-heavy chunk of one level) that add some interesting flavor to the experience. And even with the obvious graphical limitations resulting from Sky's mobile origins, the art direction is still quite nice to look at.
I personally think that if you play it just to have fun and to know the plot of the main story + event's stories, you may have A LOT of fun, but if you're a person weak for events, wasily starts grinding for having nice things and you asily fall for fomo, this game will be your hell.
It deserves a better vote, but: too many bugs + it overwhelmes EASILY + plays a lot with fomo + devs kinda ungrateful + has too many good votes from people who played it just once, I have to balance it.
...
I'm playing this game since August 2021. Their fomo took me and never let me go. I'm tired. This is a cry for help. Please. Help.

From the people who made stuff like Journey, you'd think that Journey but Multiplayer could only do so much. But I can say for sure that the limits you might think this game has have been repeatedly broken again and again and again. It's really hard for a game to get me super emotional, only a handful of games have that level of staying power in my mind. But a multiplayer game where a majority of the interactions you can have with other players are limited to funny little emotes and honking like an otomatone genuinely did it.
This game has awed me, this game has wowed me, this game has made me laugh, and this game has forced me into silence because of it's beauty. It's a really really simple game, and if you have friends to play it with, it's probably one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played. Bar none.
Just please if you can, play it on PC in my opinion. It's the one thing it's on that can both take complete control of it's hardware to show Sky at the graphical fidelity it's art style deserves, but also gives it multiple control schemes that fit it better than touch controls. Even if you think it's easily playable on a phone, you'll really see the beauty when it's not on a screen that could be used as a movie theater by ants.

Jenova Chen dived to explore multiplayer interactivity alongside with Kojima's Death Stranding, if take into account mobile release date. Thatgamecompany offers a more simple concept, using familiar gesture-based communication system as a fundamental gameplay mechanic. At some point game will let you to unlock the chat option and all core gameplay of Sky will fall apart but first couple hours are nice experience, that can put well-known mechanic into your player conscience
I never usually play "cozy" games or games of this genre, but Sky Children of the Light is a really pleasant game to play with friends. It's really fun to just explore the beautiful landscapes together with serene music blaring in your headphones, holding hands and flying around in a wholesome adventure that sees you collecting emotes and cosmetics along the way. This game and its mentality of helping strangers out is really sweet and I would honestly give this game a higher score if it wasn't for the fact that its a mobile game.
This game wants you to grind, it wants you to play daily and it wants you to pay for its cosmetics and season passes. Thankfully it's one of the friendlier games in terms of in-app-purchases, but it feels like a crime against the art of the game for the developers to want to turn this into a chore of a game where you walk the same scenery again and again in pursuit of a daily currency.
So yeahh not bad, I like :)

This game sparked my current love for playing video games so this is the first game I'm logging. We used to have a gameboy, ps1 and wii but I remember only playing less than 5 game titles when I was a kid/teen. As an adult, I've always wanted to get a gaming console but it was not really a priority. Back in 2020, I gave mobile games a try and discovered this cozy game where I get to meet people and play with irl friends. Completing the main story for the first time made me cry. I don't play it anymore since there's nothing else to do, it's tiring and I don't like the fact that I'm spending money for cosmetics. I played the Journey game which I also loved, and then decided to buy a switch so I can play more games. haha.
