I loved this, with a few caveats.
To get the less pleasing part out of the way, I didn’t love that there was no compilation mode from the get go, so that you could just play it as a collection of micro games. Not horrible, it’s source of inspiration is exactly the same, except the scenes between playing games and unlocking a level are only a minute or two. This one has all of the adventure game stuff in between. That’s not bad, but it is a little frustrating to be stuck in an adventure game part but wanting to play the games. It’s nice that after beating the level, it just adds them to your “tape collection”, though.
The other negative is just that it is released as a full game but has half of it marked as dlc. A bummer, but not terrible. And one thing I’d wish from warioware (or other series like Mario party or jackbox) for example is to just have an omnibus game platform where each of the packs get shuffled in. From that perspective, I like it
I do genuinely love just about everything else in this. From the adjustments to gameplay as you progress, adding rhythm and business mgmt sim to the Meta layer over the microgames. And how it layers in microgames as progression mechanics. The writing is pretty decent and the level design and stylistic choices(having things bounce warp and bend in weird ways as you move around. I also like the collage style microgames though wish it varied even more like you would see in warioware, but it’s unique in this enough to not really get old. The music is also pretty good too, doesn’t really grab me totally but partially at least
