this was disappointing for a star ocean game.

Star Ocean: Till The End of Time is a masterpiece in my book. This game somehow takes every cool idea that game had and creates one of the most bland and lifeless experiences I've ever had.

This is thought one, the game lacks depth in their mechanics and feels frustrating, finishing quests means farming in one specific area with one mob and such, kinda generic story, you gotta babysit your entire party everytime because the AI is missing that I truly, even the music was lackluster.

Horrible frustrating gameplay
Forgettable if not frustrating characters
Final boss has insta kill moves throughout his fight and the final phase has one that covers almost half the arena
Party AI that literally doesn't work

that little witch lady's fetch quests were the only semi-interesting section of the game loop. every time I was forced to progress the story instead of mindlessly increment some stat or other, I was reminded that those stats were going up for absolutely no good reason. utter waste of time. deleted from my hard drive out of fear; I knew I would have plunked down further hours of my life simply out of inertia if I had kept Integrity and Faithlessness within controller's reach.

perhaps worthwhile to the most fervent number-clutchers in the game liking community, though only after all the better RPG franchises have been exhausted. I still have too many good games to play to settle for this one.

I'm genuinely surprised Tri-Ace fumbled this hard with Star Ocean. I'm not even a big fan of the older titles but even they were more fun and interesting than this pile of garbage

The witch bitch’s outfit is absolutely ridiculous

My first review below a 2, since even the worst games I play I still manage to beat. I just couldn't bother with this one. Everything about this entry to one of my favorite series' is a slap in the face.

Insanely bland, and a blight on the franchise.

The most milquetoast game I've ever played.

There was barely a plot, there was no motivations for the characters to remain together, I couldn't tell you a single thing about any of the characters, their likes/dislikes etc.

Which is a real shame, the characters, individually, are passable, they're good, you can tell if a bit more time and care was put into it you would have something.

I could not tell you a single thing about the plot, it's low stakes the whole way though and I feel you don't ever really answers for why: why is this happening? why do WE have to go and do it? etc etc.

I like music, I like the art direction, I like the zones, albeit they're pretty barren.

Star Ocean 4 remains my #1.

Star Ocean 5 is probably at the bottom of my list.

Which is, disappointing :(

Edit: If you want to win just play as Miki and spam heal manually lmao I had no issues at any point in the game, a real snoozefest.

Worst game in the series. Reused music for TTEOT and TLH, the combat is broken and feels bad and the game decides to slow you down during regular gameplay. It's very annoying.
The game feels about 2/3rds complete before the developers stopped development.
Even the one post-dungeon is bad and feels rushed.

3 hours is enough, I'm tapping out

To be honest, I. did had this game for 6 years it came out but I never beated it by then because well the exploration Frequent backtracking all over the place especially for sidequests is really jank.
Story and characters were really Hallow. Literally the only characters with development is Emmerson and Relia*since she's centered around the story.
Reused SO3/SO4 music.
You can move around on cutscenes
Dialogues during battles where sound effects is so loud you can barely hear what theyre saying or have time to read the text lol
Battle skills are copy paste From SO3/SO4 Lol
20-30 hours long altho I don't mind too much.

However those are the bad points. heres my personal semi biased Good points of the game.
1.Battle System is really fun I really enjoy maining Fidel,Anne,Victor the most, but Emmerson is great. Altho. some bosses are Health sponges.
2.Really nice Graphics! it's really stunning as this is was a ps3 game to early ps4 era.
3.Good music altho it reuses some but.it has it own osts.
4.Reverse Rush Is cool,Ethereal blast is powerful.
5.Item Creation is actually fun. Well sometimes. I kinda like So2s more lol
6. Challengingly fun
That's all I can say. I Like the game But as a Star ocean. I do Wish it could've been so much better. Hopefully Divine Force Turns out better.

Took about 29 hours. Surprisingly good given the negativity I'd heard. The budget shows but it keeps going at a steady clip throughout and I liked the way that Personal Actions were handled this time around. I ended up liking pretty much the entire cast except the boring warrior guy.

I'm pretty sure some RPG Maker games had a higher budget than this.

I will pay them to not release Star Ocean 6.

I played it back in like late 2015 or 2016 and got stone walled because a boss just kept B-lining for your defenseless party member and if they died it was an immediate game over.
Also apparently this is the "bad" one but ive played multiple Star Ocean games now and they're all not very good lol.

This game is gorgeous, there's no doubt about that. But the story and characters are somehow the least interesting in the entire series. It's such a damn shame, honestly. What was Tri-Ace thinking?
