solid narrative exploration game, honestly could've been a graphic novel or animated film though. what i want from a video game is an experience no other medium can do and this isn't really the case with this

Genial, perfeito, emocionante
jogue e rejogue

An absolute masterpiece. The only bad thing about it is that the price is too high for the game duration.

Tudo perfeito.

Actually cried while playing

it's a little ironic that What Remains of Edith Finch is decried for being a walking sim when it makes use of its medium impeccably when it comes to telling its story. i would even go so far as to say it conveys a kind of story that can only be told properly at all in the form of a game.

i don't have a lot to say right now because it packs a lot into a <5 hr game and there's plenty of aspects of it that are still marinating in my head. only thing i really wanted to make a point of is that it's an 8.5/10 and not an 8 [or 9]. not too bothered about the 5 star scoring system most of the time but some impulse in my brain won't accept this game as anything other than an 8.5. i'd love it if we could just Pitchfork it and start giving 8.7s, 5.3s and shit but alas. then again "actual video game critics" can't even be trusted with a review scale so perhaps it's too much power for an average backlogged user like myself to produce any real meaning from heh.

narração genial
imersão absurda
história envolvente
trilha sonora perfeita

This remains the only game my little sister watched me play for longer than some passing minutes. She stayed for the entire duration, lucid and attentive, taking in the world. As such it's a very dear memory...

The older brother's segment hit like a ton of bricks. Hitting several nails on their heads, simultaneously, with what must have been a multi-headed hammer, to be sure...

Un confinement full ambiance

Yeah, I guess this is probably the only game to make me cry. I have to give it a 5 for that, I suppose.

What an incredible and unique experience this was. The concept of playing as different characters and each of them having a different style, gameplay, and design is simply amazing and the story is short and sweet. It is a game everyone MUST play.

made me severely depressed for like a week. god bless

THIS GAME IS AWESOME GENUINELY SO COOL AND I THINK ITS BRILLIANT AND ALL THE BACKSTORIES ARE SO INTERESTING

Everybody wants to know what remains of Edith Finch, but nobody asks what remains of my psyche after I found out.

What a game! What a beautiful, beautiful game!

What Remains of Edith Finch is everything I love about indie games. It lovingly and beautifully tells an interactive story that pulls you along each step in an engaging and often emotionally powerful way.

Before you read another word, I recommend you go into this one blind. This is a beautiful game that should be experienced. The only thing you should know going in is that it will hit you emotionally, so be in the right mindset for it. Otherwise, please go in blind.

With that out of the way, what did I love about this game? It's stunningly beautiful. It was created and crafted with so much care! Each part of the story pivots from style-to-style depending on the narrative and each one fits perfectly with the story being told. I never got bored with the art, even as it often changes wildly to suite the characters.

The gaming part is minimal, but wonderful. this is fundamentally a walking simulator, but there is enough nuance, discovery, and interaction to make it consistently interesting and a fun experience. I never became bored with the gameplay. That's a huge win with these kinds of games, they often drag at parts or get boring or repetitive, but this one never does.

The other thing that got me about this game is how hard it hits. In such a short amount of time I loved these people, I wanted the best for them. And over-and-over again you fall in love, dive deep into these stories, and are crushed by their ending. No one leaves unscathed. What wonderful storytelling. What an AMAZING creation from Giant Sparrow. It is not easy to write a story this well, and they nailed it (over and over again).

As for dislikes, there aren't many. The only thing I would have liked to see is more answers to a few of the stories. Two, maybe three of the stories are left open ended, and I would have liked them wrapped up a bit more - one story in particular had an opportunity to provide answers to the lose ends and instead gives us nothing. It would have been nice if there was something in the house providing hints at what really happened.

But honestly? Those critiques are very minor. And in writing this review I've changed it from a 4.5 to a full 5.0. This was everything I want in this kind of a video game and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Giant Sparrow. I'll definitely be playing your other game and watching out for whatever comes next!

definition of melancholy? the house that you explore throughout the game ends up being the main character as you traverse what seems like an endless amount of secrets & hallways that showcase tiny little micro-experiences per each of your passed family members.

the mood throughout is very grim as you learn of one unfortunate passing after another, each time returning to an enormous & empty home left only of secrets, books, and narrow corridors. the home does an outstanding job at what I'd imagine I'd feel like returning to my childhood home, years removed, only to find it in complete disarray. ominous and uncanny feelings filled me up as I walked about - an uneasiness that worked well thematically. the environments themselves are beautifully arranged and decorated & accompanied by a wonderfully somber ost. while this isn't much of a "video game-y" experience, it was a nice time to sit and walk about, learning of a family's tragic story.

It's a project without too many pretensions... even too much, the team did a good job in creating an immersive atmosphere and that was the game's greatest merit.
The experience is cool and serves as a basis for better ideas.

Not an emotional wreck but a still a hand-made maxismalist and glorified way to tell about death, in a good way. A scrap book video game of some sort that is worth your time

Very strong experience. It has a heavy story that has moments of levity to let you breathe. It experiments and plays with several art styles and themes to keep the game interesting. The setting is out there and unique.

I don't really have any major criticisms, honestly. It was an extremely well crafted experience. If you are into walking sims this is up there as a must buy.

Been sitting in the backlog for a long time despite heaps of praise, but was still pleasantly surprised by how well this came together in the end. Not every story is as compelling as some of the others, but they all have some memorable element to them and are pretty tightly written. Obviously held back when the player doesn't seem immersed in the atmosphere, but it rarely removes its hooks from you.
