Childhood game, but still something I get urges to play to this day. This stands right along Super Mario 64 to me as a top-notch 3D platformer. What it lacks in Mario's movement options, it makes up for it in the vibrant worlds and colorful characters you encounter. Game Over Grunty especially.
Still can't believe after all the years of playing this game over and over that those two eggs and the ice key were obtainable without having to wait for Banjo-Tooie.

Banjo Kazooie, like most of Rare's glory day output, is better than it has any right to be. Standing on the shoulders of a particular giant, Banjo Kazooie manages to both clean and dirty Mario 64 at the same time. The results are both stupid and addictive. There is only one feature of Banjo Kazooie for which I will stand my ground enough to argue that it is actually good at least SOMEWHAT on purpose rather than by happy accident, and that's the level design. Each of Banjo Kazooie's worlds is memorable, inventive, compact, and fun to traverse in ways that DK64, Banjo Tooie and Yooka Laylee all would completely fail to reproduce. Technical limitations really can be a godsend.

I believe this is the quintessential 3D platformer. It's well designed, easy to control, and a TON of fun. It aged very well too.
The amount of love Rare put into these games is truly apparent wherever you look. So much character and attention to detail, not to mention Grant Kirkhope's AMAZING soundtrack. I could shill this game all day.

It's fun and full of charm, but halfway through it starts to feel past it's welcome. The level design becomes more frustrating than fun, interaction often feels arbitrary or unclear, and mechanics feels needlessly tacked on. This is without mention of the trivia level which must be completed before fighting the final boss. The trivia is overly long, frustrating, and tedious.
Been playing on and off for around a year and some parts are terrible and awful and make me want to throw and destroy parts of my living space, but the rest is perfect. The best platformer on the N64 by far. Tooie is expensive and I don't own an Xbox so I don't know when I'll be able to get to that one. Also the first game I've ever 100%ed.
