Fuck nicalis
This is THE indie game. A 2D Metroidvania that has some fun ideas, good gameplay, and some mildly antiquated design philosophies. Save system occasionally meant having to go through some dialogues several times through. Level design was pretty good, leveling up guns to see the different effects was fun, music was good, artstyle was good. Characters, setting, and tone were all really good. Solid game.
Good fuckin metroidvania made by a single person. Music is catchy, love the characters, and the story really impacted me. Hate Nicalis though.
In a way it's an "objective upgrade" over the original, featuring new graphics, a new soundtrack, optional difficulty and challenge modes - all of which can be disabled to just play the original at a higher resolution - but I just can't help wondering what the point was other than to pocket some money off of an originally free game. Pixel definitely deserves this money, but does Nicalis? I'm not sure...

played this version since I couldn't get into the freeware version for whatever reason but vibed with this better. it's a shame that Nicalis owns this because Cave Story is actually a really fun and enjoyable game. that being said I think I'll just have to accept that I will never be a skilled enough player to see the good ending

played with a pal in co-op, was pretty fun getting carried throughout the entire game

Its my favorite game with more options on my favorite system so of course its five stars
A lot of people go ape for Cave Story, and i would say it's definitely a good game, but the aesthetic and setting weren't really my thing. Still, it was a solid metroidvania.

Deserves the title of ‘grandfather of indie games’ bc it feels a dated in a good way. I like the gameplay and the level up system. World/story I was lukewarm on
The game is beautiful both this and the original version, music is great and gameplay and story works really well. But sometimes the game asks too much and less skilled players will found walls that they can't climb.
The last boss rush for the normal ending asks for a save and a better healing between the third and four boss to be less tiring when you lose against the final one.

Daisuke Amaya singlehandedly started the entire independent video game scene and was cheated out of his money and fame. Fuck Nicalis.

My favorite iteration of Cave Story. The game deserves credit for being an early indie game. However, if this game were released today it would struggle to stand out. It’s still fun and well made.
A true testament to how amazing a single person focused creation can be. No need for fluff, just good fucking food
enhanced version of a fantastic game, but i'd suggest going for NXEngine instead for the 16:9 experience with multiple save slots

De los Metroidvanias mas divertidos que eh jugado en mi vida, e incluso cuando es un juego corto, es impresionante el diseño de nivel del mismo.
People say it's really good, I guess I never got to the "fun" part of it. Is it even worth trying it again in 2022?
