Hmm, I was ready to forgive everything for the unique gameplay concept, but.. there is absolutely nothing to praise here, I understand that the game was made by 1 person, tried to at least somehow poor, but tastefully arrange inventory and other stuff using hand drawing, and it seems, in general, everything works, and I understand that the game will be liked by his fans or those who just want to support him for the work, but the game can still be improved,
I'm really disappointed I was waiting for the game, the developer did it for several years, and for what? It turned out to be a simple joke for YouTube, just a joke that lasts for a couple of seconds or for 1 screenshot, there is a really good concept of an open world, where if you move far away from the train, you will be devoured by a monster that can also attack your train on the go,
But everything is done as primitively as possible, all the tasks of the open world - it's just bring thing from one place to another, click along the way, farm the rubbish scattered everywhere, you can also upgrade damage/armor/speed of train - that's it, that's the whole gameplay) It takes 2-3 hours to complete.
That's it, Absolutely all the tasks - are just a walking simulator with a couple of scattered props+1 mouse click, and you can also open chests in the simplest "get in the circle" mini-game. The plot: you came to the island to kill a strange creature, in the end you learn about 3 eggs that are guarded by Charles's cultists, which you need to collect and summon the boss on the altar.. it's even ridiculous to talk about characters and notes.

And the last nail in the game`s coffin - is that fights with Charles do not cause any FEAR, 0 fear, PEOPLE, no atmosphere, by the way, either.
What, 20 dollars, man, developer, are you ok? You are a youtuber, so you have the opportunity to advertise the game well, why so limit the audience of the game? I would recommend this maximum for mobile phones or in free form.
Poor optimization and microfreezes are also present, if that makes any difference besides all this.

I waited for months for this game and was very happy to see the Steam notification saying it was finally out.
Unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations, but I still liked it.
I finished the game in around 4 hours (I did everything you can do in the game: visited every place, did every quest, and got every achievement).
I've seen people say it is horrible, and I can see why they say that, but I like these "basic" games a lot, sometimes even more than "advanced" games.
I want to play it again from the beginning, but I'll likely get bored after one or two replays. I wish there were more content, but I still recommend it.

For what this game is (IE a very simple game made by one person) I think it's pretty alright, it could have been better and the premise does feel a bit stretched by the end, but I still had a fun time with it, and it had fewer glitches then the brand new 60 dollar Pokemon game.

$20 for this is not worth it. I finished this game in like 2 hours. Atmosphere, visuals, audio, and train gameplay is cool, but the story, characters, npcs (both passive and aggressive), and Charles himself kinda suck.

Pros:
• Charles has a scary design
• Voice acting aint too bad
• The game incentivizes you to use all your weapons
• Soundtrack is decent
• Audio is cool
• Atmosphere is spoopy
• Constantly needing scraps to upgrade and repair is unique
• Nice and unique train controls
• Cool that you can walk around the train and customize it
• Cool game for something made by one person

Cons:
• Charles appears VERY RARELY, maybe like once or twice every 30 minutes, so it gets kinda boring like I was never attacked even ONCE when I got off my train
• The story sucks
• Characters like Warren are so bland and have no backstory or anything just vague explanations
• Not a big one and personally one I ignored and has no impact on the rating, but the characters mouths don't move which can kinda feel off
• You get 2/3 of the eggs in like the first 10 minutes
• The dungeons to get said eggs are easy as hell
• If you are spotted, all you have to do is make a long and annoying run back to your train and shoot em
• Scrap quests can be a bit tedious
• Map is too big for how short the game is
• Game is short as hell (finished in 2 hours)
• Too expensive for how short it is
• Final boss is disappointing and really easy, just have a bunch of scraps to repair the train and keep switching between guns
• Anti climactic ending

Overall this game has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. If it is updated to add more story and content, it better be a free update for anyone who bought it and not DLC.

The hype does not equal the results.

Don't get me wrong: I loved seeing the journey of the developer in his YouTube videos building up the game. It was a well designed and fun experience. I love to support indie devs. Especially when it comes down to such a small team, knowing a few devs of my own who are in the same circumstances.

Charles looks amazing and the atmosphere really works wonders with the soundtrack. I loved the mechanic of scraps necessary for both upgrades and healing your choo-choo. Riding around in the train is a lot of fun! Big map, too! Loved the little Slender nod!

The rest is a little bit more barebones: The NPC's didn't get the same polish as the environment, player equipment, or Charles; the voice acting is good, at best, but none of the characters have any facial animation or lip flaps, which pulls you out of it during dialogue. I had a few instances where the grunts shot at me during dialogues, which resulted in some funny deaths. Not that there were many. I barely used the sneaking mechanic. Kinda odd that there is a little bit of a zoom in the tilted leaning? No stealth on my end cause it's really easy to outrun the grunts, even in bigger groups.

I think the look of the NPCs are not at the core of this game's design, but a little polish goes a long way. Especially when you're working in UE and the rest looks very flattering.

Speaking of grunts not being scary: Charles. The whole selling point. At first he seems very menacing, but once you start to get used to the deaths not being a big deal with the amount of scrap you can find, he becomes a little less of a scary sight. Some hardcore mode would've been great? Witch Hunt did something similar but evokes this feeling of dread more often. Charles barely appears throughout the game, at least in my initial playthrough. Kinda felt more like an urban legend you were dodging randomly instead of his AI actively getting closer and closer.

It's nice that the deaths are almost an instant reset to a your last hop off of the train and that you only lose less than a handful of your scraps. It's not as if they're hard to find, I feel like the amount was even a bit gullible. It does, however, feel very satisfying to reach max level on your upgrades.

Climax was a little underwhelming and very short.

$20 bucks is a little steep for the playtime of a little less than 2 hours (in my case) with not a lot of room for replayability. You can lure out Charles as much as you like, but not a lot changes.

It was a great experiment, one with a very unique vision and well-crafted execution. Albeit a bit short, it's really the atmosphere that you're here for. Hoping to see a more fleshed out spiritual successor down the line, though.

Commenti:

Really fun but WAY too short. Honestly feels like 1/4 of a game. By the time I was at the end I couldn't believe how little there actually was. I get that it was made by just one guy, but still. I was very much left wanting at the end, especially considering I paid 20 bucks for the game.

Overall, though, I had a good time. Charles is scary, train mechanics are really fun, roaming around the island is enjoyable, yada yada yada. There's just not enough game here. It really needed a LOT more side quests and a LOT more main quests - just more to do, generally. It's way too easy to get to the end, and way too easy to beat Charles, imo.

That's another thing. The game is REALLY easy. Especially the egg retrieval missions. You can practically just run through, grab the egg, and run back out without being killed. This could be easily solved if they made a hard mode where NPC enemies are more aggressive (incentivizing you to actually be stealthy), and Charles was more of a threat, appearing more frequently and going faster/doing more damage. But there aren't any difficulty settings, which I find baffling. That's something that should be added in a future update, and probably should have been there to begin with.

In summary, it's a really fun game with a great concept and good mechanics that's brought down by its shaky execution and stunning lack of content. I recommend playing it because it is a good time, but you should probably wait until it either goes on sale or gets an update with major improvements.

I love the part when Charles said "Choo-choo motherfucker" and i got choo-chooed right away. Truly one of the game of all time

Short but sweet. Loved when Charles choo-chood and made me piss on the floor. Great stuff!

Me gustó

If I think about each individual aspect of this game, I can't find anything profound, but when I played through the game, I had a great time, and in the end, what else matters?

It's ok! I am a big fan of trains and it is a cool concept. Given it's made by one guy, it does sometimes feel a little empty and the upgrades never felt especially crazy outside of speed? But overall it is a very fun game to stream to friends.

It is a short game. I would say it's like a carnival attraction, just enjoy the ride.

A great concept lacking any real mid-section of the game. Charles quickly no longer becomes a threat and the only issue is not going too far from your train. While the side quests are supposed to do this only some do and there is more than enough free scrap (the resource needed for upgrading and repairing) to only do the easier quests.
The game could gain an extra half a star just by making it so that Charles takes more damage as you collect more eggs.

A fun concept stretched paper thin. Overpriced but not a waste of time

Wait for a sale, $20 is too steep for how short this game is. But overall it is a fine game. Feels fun to just ride around on your train with all the freedom you have on it. Only issue was the "stealth" against the human enemies, it just doesn't work.

funny train game
i like trains
some technical issues
the choo-choo sound terrified me every time
overall, a decent game with a lot of potential
3 out of 5

Next Smash Brothers should have Hell Charles as a boss

Surpassed all of my expectations. Choo-Choo Charles impressed me on every front for a game made by only one dude. There were some genuinely terrifying areas and it has enough content to keep it fun even though it was so short.

#ripeugene

Was gifted this on Steam by a friend, and decided to give it a try. Suffice to say, I'm kind of glad I didn't drop $20 for this. Great gameplay concept but was not executed very well. "Stealth" segments were abysmal to play through and arguably should've been cut from the game to focus more time on Charles himself. Literally, these human enemies would spot you from miles away and chase you to the ends of the Earth. Fuck them.

Cute game. Not scary but it didn't have to be. Slaying a spider-train known as Charles is all it needs to be. Wait for a sale though.

Choo-Choo Charles is a game by Two Star Games about a person who's hired to come over to an island to murder a killer spider train named Charles who's been terrorizing the populace after a mine owner/greedy capitalist Warren Charles III (hinting at something maybe? Who knows) accidentally (or maybe on purpose) digs up monster eggs which woke up an ancient evil. You're job is to kill the monster by any means necessary, mostly involving a moving train and a machine gun/any weapons you pick up. You go around completing quests that involves stealing three eggs, finding a hidden stash of pickles, finding 8 Pages hidden in a forest (yes a Slender reference), and others I won't bother to reveal, all while collecting scrap and upgrading your train to match up with Charles himself.

That's it for the story for the most part, you can mostly find other pieces of the story by picking up notes hidden around the island which tells of cult worship, Warren's expeditions, and the obsession of the local Pickle lady. As mentioned before, you can complete quests and get scrap and new weapons, as well as collect scrap all around of which there's enough to find before you finish the game. You can also collect paint cans to customize your murder train. And basically that's the loop, drive around in a train, complete missions, and etc.

Honestly overall, I like it as a game. It's on the short side (excellent), it's a novel concept with a funny premise, and there's enough lore to make it somewhat interesting. You can tell that this was an indie team of one or two people and for what they had they made some unique and interesting. The sound design was creepy, and graphically it looks good. Like I don't honestly have many negative things to say other than the stealth isn't really that good. In certain areas around the island a cult led by Warren himself have stationed themselves and to me it turned into "Get their attention, run to the train and shoot them, then run back and pray to god". Other than that, I can't think of anything else that's really bad for the life of me. It can also certainly be scary as hell (though kind of frustrating) when you're a bit far from your train and that motherfucker flies in out of nowhere and stomps your booty hole in. Another complaint I guess I can throw out is the price, 20 dollars isn't bad but I'd say wait and get this on sale, especially considering sometimes it feels barebones.

Positives:
Unique concept
Interesting, albeit not too much lore
Killer Train bonding
Sound Design/Graphical Presentation is good
Short Side

Negative:
Stealth Sucks
A bit high for the price

To finish it off, yes it's a small indie game and can it feel somewhat empty sometimes? Yes it can. But I like what they have here, and I know they can expand it to make it even better in the future, but for what we got now? It's pretty good and I enjoyed my time. Shout out to my G Wrathne for getting me the game. If you want to check out the development cycle behind this game, I'd suggest looking up Two Star Games on Youtube:

Surprise! The TikTok scary train game is actually decent! Definitely an early project by one person, but it's really fun and appeals to me a lot because you freely explore an open world in a big vehicle. If you want to know what it plays like, imagine Zelda Spirit Tracks meets Slender and that's the game.

There's definitely something here. Driving around an island, doing quests and upgrading your own train while you fight off a demonic spider train is a great concept. It just feels like the game needed a little more development time.

Characters at the very least could've done with some mouth animations during dialogue. Some more variety in the setting would've been great too, maybe even a day/night cycle. Combat-wise, out of the 4 weapons you can unlock, one of them is so much better than the other 3 and it renders the others pretty worthless.

There's a lot that could be improved upon here, but it was a fun afternoon playthrough. I'm sure there are some hidden things I missed, but I'm not currently compelled enough to go back.

this game is no the house in fata morgana dreams of the revenants edition i can tell you that much

For every 10 Resident Midvils there's one Peak-Peak Charles
