I haven't played the game but I read the creepypasta. That's close enough.

Its an actually decent license NES game, plus it doubles as a good creepypasta too which if I'm honest is a little more impressive.

This game is a bit of a mixed bag affair. On the one hand, it IS, to be blunt, incredibly repetitive. You go through around 6/7 worlds, which for the most part are largely made of the same handful of level types, as you go about beating a growing list of the same monsters each planet, and destroying the final base, to move on to the next, etc. Gameplay wise, while the gameplay itself IS solid, I can see how it CAN get old for many people pretty quickly.

On the OTHER hand, if you grew up a "Monster Kid", and Godzilla nut, like I did? This game is the bee's knees! It could have used a few more monsters from the actual Godzilla movies (it features monsters like Moguera, Varan, and Gezora, from NON-Godzilla Toho films, which I had never heard of as a kid), but it DOES also feature many of the known heavy hitters (though it conspicuously is missing poor Rodan). The game also features fairly detailed graphics for a 1988 NES game, and its finest feature, by far, is an EXCELLENT soundtrack. You want to talk about "bangers"? This game's got em to spare. Do yourself a favor and go look up the OST on Youtube.

Again, this game is a repetitive affair, to be sure, but there is still enjoyment to be had. If nothing else, I would say look up the password to skip to "Planet X" (the final world), and play through that. It gives you a good sample of the game as a whole, you get to fight all the monsters, AND see the ending. The only thing you'll be missing out on that way, is the wonderful music. But that's what Youtube is for, right?

Kung-Fu on NES got hit with a Hydrogen Bomb and mutated into a big fucking piece of shit. Music is good though.

A game that could of been good. Most of the game is running through rocks and building and killing the same enemies over and over again. Fighting the same monsters of every board gets old as they had a large amount of monsters to work with, but for some reason they had Mogura and Gazora???? Playable game, but not a great one.

I loved how pretty the sprites were, and the music was nice, but the actual gameplay is terrible. The enemies were really annoying to deal with because of how much knockback they do to your monsters, and how small their projectiles are. The bosses were boring, they had like 2 attacks, and can sometimes lock you into a corner making you not be able to attack until they stop attacking. The levels were repetitive, being a color swap of like 4 levels over and over again, and the worlds started really difficult then became super easy.

Playing as Mothra was tedious because of how little damage she does, and due to how much more knockback she takes, she can get stuck into the left hand corner really easily, which made it infuriating to play. Playing as Godzilla was kind of fun, but because of his large size he takes a lot of damage, and there's an enemy that can one-shot him which makes it so you can't play as him until you complete an entire world.

this game should have probably just been monster fights because all the other sections feel like ass to play

It has been a long time since the last time I've played. When I was like 13, I've always said that this was a good game even though I understand why some people disliked it, but replaying now I'm not so sure anymore

The music are awesome and the sprites are very well done. Not only that but every Kaiju fight is awesome (for an NES game, obviously)
The problem unfortunally cames when you play the side scrolling stages, which is basically 80% of the game at least. It's almost impossible to dodge any obstacles with Godzilla, but even considering that those stages are easy as fuck, specially with Mothra (which is funny because she controls like ass)
But here is the bad part. Is not just because it's easy, but because it's boring. After Mars or Jupiter, the game doesn't add any completly new stage (at least visually), and when it does it's just an color swap of another one. The only times I've lost Godzilla or Mothra outside an Kaiju fight was just because an "Bomb" kept hitting me because the game doesn't have invencibility frames (neither for you or the enemies)

I wouldn't say to play it, but I wouldn't say to not play either. Although It's repetitive after sometime, it's short and does provide some fun moments
It's mid, no doubt. But at least it's closer to being good than to being bad

godzilla monster of monsters? mas bien godzilla mierda de mierdas

A guilty pleasure of mine. Not good by any means, but I love it.

Played through Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! on NES. Developed by PuyoPuyo’s Compile.

Godzilla & Mothra receive a distress call from Planet X and have to navigate boards of Ring Fields where they either have to clear the level to the right or vanquish a series of bosses.

It’s rare that I find a new NES game I have new feelings about but I loved this one. I love the variety between Godzilla and Mothra. For an NES game, the mechanics and move sets are good. Mothra just shoots eye beams, has greater mobility, but can also Mothra Bomb. Godzilla is great! He can tailspin through levels or shoot atomic breath, or kick, or punch, rare to have more than an option or two on the platform.

There are notable issues. Sometimes in the boss battles they’ll force your hand (there are many boss battles, you’ll get glitch-cornered and have to reset). It’s also a long game but there’s a useful password system to trigger each stage — although would always note your unique password instead since there’s a progression system for your monsters.

The range of enemies is surprising too. There’s about eight of them — sometimes you’ll face a couple or all of them on the board. You progress to the end of each board until you face off with King Ghidorah and save Planet X.

Recommended!

Sucks.

Slowdown actually got so bad that I tapped into my inner AVGN and shouted "SHITTY GAME"

The game that spawned a well known creepypasta. Was also reviewed by AVGN. As far as the game goes. I enjoyed it to a small extent. Gets a tad too repetitive after an hour into the game. You fight the same kaijus who get stronger in each stage, as well as the same microscopic enemies that you have to kill to level up. You wouldnt have a choice to level up anyways since you'll be killing something every so often as well as the bosses. Just don't use a password that lets you go straight to planet x. Since Godzilla and Mothra will start at lv1. And thus the enemy kaijus outside of Gozra and Moguera will be harder to kill. Overall, as a game by itself, its too mediocre and boring. But for a Godzilla fan, it might have some merit. I'm both, so I got something out of it. Given, i'd just wait for the Godzilla Creepypasta game to finish and play that instead (if that even gets finished).

The idea they had going forward when making this is a good one, the beat em up/shmup approach I feel works better for a Godzilla game, fighting games are good too but there's something nice about just smashing buildings and spaceships as giant monsters.

Or it should have been had this game been better at balancing stuff.

Godzilla's hitboxes are bad, he gets hit a lot due to his big size, Mothra is smaller and can fly over stuff but every time she gets hit she falls dow to the corner of the screen. This is made worse when you find out this is one of those games that think endgame difficulty is just fillng the screen with enemies and projectiles and repeating bosses over and over again.

Still, spritework is pretty (when hazards don't blend with the background), you can tell which monster is which although sound design could be better.

AND at one point I found out that despite how nerfed she is, you can actually cheese the game very easily with Mothra, just treat the mains stages as a normal shmup but with a bit more patience than usual, and most bosses actually have "blind spots" where you can just sit and spam attacks without them touching you since Mothra is smaller and with her flight can fit in these spots, Godzilla should be used on bosses ONLY in certain cases or when you need a quick kill with the atomic breath in an already weakened enemy.

In the end it could be way better but when I started treating it as a Mothra game is when the moderate fun play really kicked in.

I know it's probably way worse to have experienced the excitement of realizing there was FINALLY a Godzilla game and then it's just this, cuz the controls are clunky and the side scroll and 1v1 just isn't blended very well, but for me I found it quite enjoyable; but of course, I could suspend my disappointment because I knew I already lived in a world with much better Godzilla games on Gamecube and PS2.

Actually not a terrible concept for how to structure a 1-player Godzilla game, but it's let down by really weak design in the platforming stages and dull (if functional) combat in the big monster fights. It is at least playable. And the kaiju art is quite good and on model, with some fun choices for the enemies. Baragon! Hedorah! Varan! Overall - eh. Could be worse.

And btw I love that Comedians of Comedy-ass title, lol

The controls are terrible for both Mothra and Godzilla. Both feel unwieldy, and their sprites are so big it feels impossible to dodge some of the projectiles coming at you. The stages themselves are so simplistic that even if this did have a streamlined control scheme it would quickly devolve into tedium.
