More Kingdom Hearts. Some of the bullshit had started to creep in by this point, but it wasn't completely bogged down by it. I liked the addition of forms. It added a nice wrinkle to the gameplay and was very enjoyable. Again I love the Hollow Bastion/Radiant Gardens area. Something about that place is just so appealing to me.

Wtf is this story, plays great though

Just beat this game today! Wow. The combat flows so well, is nearly infallible from a technical standpoint, and just feels so good. Really fun! As someone who hasn't played a Kingdom Hearts game since the first one came out, I am so glad this version of Kingdom Hearts 2 was my return to the series.

This is a very conflicting game for me. Because if I were to rate Kingdom Hearts 2 based on just what its normal gameplay is like, it would not be high at all, barely above a 1.5. But this is one of the most gnurpable games with some of the tightest mechanics you can find. Underneath the layers upon layers of safety locks and overly powerful player abilities lays an extremely rewarding character action game with the best movement and bosses you can find.

But it requires doing a ton; Setting the game on critical mode isn't even enough, Sora still just bashes his way mindlessly through everything. You not only have to set it to Crit, Level 1, not use summons... the list goes on. And even then, there's plenty of rough and poor spots in the main game. If it were just based on what I think the game is like at its peak, it'd be my favorite, but it's too inaccessible. Still, what a bizarre game this is.

The Disney worlds still aren't quite as detailed and interesting as they should be, but they are a good improvement over the original's. The story while still mostly nonsense has enough intrigue to be captivating enough for the runtime. The core gameplay loop is perhaps a bit over complicated, but can feel a bit more strategic when dealing with endgame bosses, or the absent silhouette bosses which are really hard but really fun. Overall a good time.

Yeah it's pretty dumb but this the kind of dumb I can get behind

Best game in the series by far. One of the best action games I've ever played. My only issue is the gummi stuff sucks again.

One of the high points of the series for sure. The combat is much more refined over KH1, the story is more complex, and visually the game looks a lot better too. The game is lacking in terms of non-combat stuff to do though, which compared to KH1 is a bit of a negative, and a lot of the side content is pushed into post-game territory. But it's still really great at what it does set out to achieve, so I can't help but consider it kino.

The best game in the series in spite of itself. The combat is the best its ever been with the responsiveness and memorable battles and setpieces. The level design is shameful but the rest of the game is just that good. The story and dialogue is also the best its been here with enough moving parts to be complex and intruiging while also being simple enough for a five year old like me to understand playing the first time. I love this game to pieces.

Still one of my favorite games of all time. I feel like I learn something new about the combat every time I play it; there is so much utility and diversity amidst all of your options, and it's so rewarding to learn how it all works.

This is also, with the arguable exception of Days, the best story in the franchise. I love Xemnas as a villain, the thematic purpose behind the Disney worlds, seeing Sora maturing, witnessing Riku's redemption, struggling with Roxas as we discover the mystery of his existence alongside him, watching Ansem slowly destroy himself through his quest for vengeance, experiencing all the fantastic personalities of the organization members (except Saïx), unfolding the mystery of everything that has happened since Chain of Memories, tying up all the loose ends we've recieved since the first game, and watching the seeds being sown for Xehanort.

And after the base game is over, all the Final Mix additions keep me coming back every time. Cavern of Remembrance is probably one of my favorite dungeons in all of video games, and all the superbosses are insane. I think Reminds trumps them nowadays, but that still doesn't take away from how incredible they are.

Yea, this is my jam game. Even though I've played it multiple times before, I jumped in and 100% it in the span of about a week, and I'm still not sick of it.

JUST REALLY, REALLY GOOD

(Played through I.5+II.5)

a lot of people say this is the best in the series for good reason. The start is a bit slow but the story is actually p good overall.

Game sucks tho because you need Limit Form to dodge roll

Really great game with great soundtrack, great characters and a really, REALLY emotional story.
Combat system is top notch, and allows different combinations.
Sephiroth battle was really fun and the Data Org battles was thrilling enough to make me rush through them.
Someday I'll kill fucking Lingering Will. Someday.

realistically, it's hard to explain how much kh2 has meant to me over the years, and kh2fm is just the luxury sports car version of kh2. this game is my sanctuary

You either know and accept that this is the coolest game ever made or you're a goddamn coward.

Played through on critical for my first playthru

Some people call this the best action RPG of all time.

But i dont think the best action RPG of all time would have attacks that leave you stunlocked for thirty straight seconds with no escape.

I also dont think the best action RPG of all time would have Haley Joel Osment voicing the main character.

reaaaallly wish i liked this more! i'm down for all of the weird final fantasy/disney crossover shit, im down for the nonsense plot and unknown motivations, im down for the action based, world hopping gameplay.

what drags it down is the ceaseless rehashing of disney movie plots via hours and hours of cutscenes that don't connect to the main plot at all. or the boss fights that are too often comprised of sections where you can't injure the boss but if they injure you you're basically dead in a single hit. or just, generally, by the end, you really want it to be over but there's like 7 bosses in a row, including the final one with 1000 forms.

it's a good game and it's almost great but it just doesn't get there for me.

Okay this is really just Kingdom Hearts 2 in general but this is probably the most silky smooth combat in any game that i'll never get tired of, also the story isn't bad just learn to have fun

The game is great on its own and one of my favorites of all time. Recently I've been replaying it a ton thanks to the Garden of Assemblage mod, which turns the Garden of Assemblage area where you fight the Data Organization super bosses into a hub area, where you can select any of the game's worlds in any order you want, along with a randomizer mod which shuffles around every reward in the game. It adds a whole new layer of replayability that makes every new run unique.

Has its issues like all of the padding but definitely a high point in the series. I used to hate the Roxas opening but for some reason, it grew on me and that endgame is still crazy which may give it a slight edge over KH3.

I'm from the west, so this was on PS4.

All around really good game. The combat system is fun and the story is emotional, it knows how to reach your feelings, at least it worked very well with me.

For years I heard a lot people say that "this is the point where the series gets too pretentious and serious for its own good" and I have to say, now that I played it, those people are cowards and boring.

Some abilities like dodge roll being tied to Forms sucks major ass though, whoever thought that was a good idea is dumb.

Go read what I wrote of the original.
