Sure there could be more boards, characters and mini-games and I hope we get some in free updates or even DLC, but even the base package is easily a peak Mario Party experience alongside 6 and 2 with some of the most iconic boards and classic mini-games and few things give me as much nostalgic joy as playing this with the boys over Discord. Most fun and enjoyable multiplayer experience I've had in years.

finally some good fucking mario party

Mario Party Nostalgia. All 5 boards are pretty good, the option for both remixes or the original version of the songs boards is a nice touch.

The online is surprisingly good. Occassionally you'll get lag from those laggy wi-fiers or you'll get DCs during boards. But generally online plays well in all major modes.

You get the option to play any of the 5 boards you want, and get matched with randoms. Or you can play with your friends locally or online. All options work and are nice.

The Mt. Minigames have some fun online competitions vs other places. Sadly this means if you play offline, Mt. Minigames is limited to just Free Play.

The remixes of all the board and mini-games mostly sound nice, though there a few that sounds a little weird.

Nice to get a set of some of the better mini-games from Mario Party 1-10 in one game.

Like someone else said, this game could use some DLC like another board or 2, maybe even another set of mini-games.

Pretty good celebration of classic Mario Party. Online is surprisingly solid, making this the second Nintendo game with consistently functional online (the first being Mario Kart 8 Deluxe). The game also just has a lot of charm put into it.

Great compilation with beautiful graphics but Nintendo gets a semi-W on this one. Feels a bit under cooked (roster and board-wise) but hopefully they’ll release free updates and not paid DLC.

The grand return of Mario Party. Classic boards, 100 mini games, and most features the fandom has been asking to return. The online runs surprisingly smooth (for Nintendo standards).

If there's post launch additions like more maps then this definitely has the potential to be one of the best Mario Party games ever. As is it's a solid entry.

"The return of good Mario Party's" as many say and praise it for. It's kinda weird though that when literally all they had to do was recreate the old magic they still put in the bare minimum. I mean...5 boards? That's less than 1 N64 games worth of boards. Also, and this may be an unpopular opinion, but the N64 boards were kinda meh in comparison to Mario Party's 5-7. Like they function fine, but those boards just have so much more depth to them.

10 characters? Come on now. Even 100 minigames, which technically is a fair amount for a MP game, feels lacking as hell when they didn't even need to come up with any new ideas. And the games they picked aren't even that well curated! You have 10 games worth of minigames to pick from and you still pick stinkers like Pirahna's pursuit, or minigames that are basically identical to each other? How do you fuck up that badly when ALL you had to do was make a "best of" compilation. Just ask the fans which boards and games they wanted.

There's also supposedly some changes made to the boards to make them "easier", but truth be told my knowledge of N64 Mario Party's is kinda limited, so I dunno how much they affected them.

Of course THE reason this game basically is worth anything at all is that it's the first time in Mario Party's history that it has had a (competent) online mode. And yeah, the online works amazing in this game. I've played multiple games with randoms with very little problems. The stickers even provide a really fun way to communicate without voice chat.

I do also like the customisable player cards, and the stats you can view, like your minigame win percentage and what everyone's favourite boards are.

So yeah, it's a game that literally is "good" because of one simple element - the fact this is classic Mario Party online. It's just frustrating that they came so close to such a winning formula, and didn't even need to think up new ideas to make it work, and still settled for good enough. It could have been the definitive Mario Party, but as it stands, it's only the best way to play Mario Party online. If you still wanna play with friends irl, then basically any of the first 7 are better.

Top 100 but awesome. Has a lot of returning mini games, old boards, and decent online (4 players has some issues though)

The cons with this game are connection troubles with 4 players, tedious UI (to start a lobby you have to open the game, select online play, play with friends, cutscene that you can thankfully skip, title screen, and then you can either create or join a lobby.) I wish it just had the title screen to boot, and then you go to the hub, and select offline/online play there. I definitely think they should at least focus on optimizing the online first, as lag and most of these mini games don't mix well.

Hopefully they add more content later on because for a base game, this has a lot of potential to be one of the greatest Mario Parties.

This game is amazing. Rating could change to 5 after more play time. As someone who has never played the n64 titles but always wanted to, this is an absolute blast. I love all the mechanics, skeleton keys, koopa banks, and a ton more. The depth comparison between this and super mario party is insane. A great selection of boards as well. And some incredibly fun minigames. This is a near perfect game. Oh yeah, theres also ACTUALLY GOOD NINTENDO SWITCH ONLINE. Only things that are annoying is the amount of playable characters cut in half, although thats understandable as the characters are used in different ways, and the low amount of boards, although that could be remidied by dlc and the selection is so good 5 boards isn't a horrible amount.

By god, NDCube might finally get it.

...now by "finally get it" I mean "not get it so badly and for so long that you realize the only way to get back on track is by just practically 1 to 1 remaking and remixing things that people actually liked wholesale and even then managing to screw up some of the finer details" but hey it's a real strong start to maybe getting some good original content in the next game at least.

I'm kidding around but really, this is pretty good! The minigames that have been brought back here have all made the jump pretty seamlessly and I think they chose a great list of games to return, with a good balance of free for all, team, and 1 v 3. One or two minigames seem to have been balanced incredibly weirdly even though they were fine in the originals, such as Hammer Drop, which gives out way, waaaay too many coins now, but they are exceptions. The boards themselves are also mostly great. They definitely could have used one more board though (one more from Mario Party 3 would make for 2 returning boards from each of the original 3, which would make sense) and I also question that of the returning boards the only one they took from 3 is Woody Woods, which on top of having a horribly uninspired name is also one of the worst boards from 3??? Regardless, the other returning boards are all great. The only downside is that I think the item shop items are a bit too cheap. This is something they've adjusted from the original games where items were significantly more expensive to encourage more item use, and while I like that idea on paper I think they overcorrected a bit too much to where now it feels like a no brainer to buy an item every single time you go past the shop.

But these are all pretty minor nitpicks when it comes to how badly they've bungled this series in the past, and by far the biggest two things they get right here are the only two things that actually are new: Online and quality of life features. You mileage may vary but I've played the main board game mode exclusively online and it ran pretty much flawlessly. It's one of very few times I think Nintendo has actually ever nailed online play, and it's just something the series so obviously needed that it's great to have it here. They've also managed to improve the pacing of the overall experience significantly, cutting down on slow explanations or animations and just letting you get straight to the game which for a party game is essential, and is one of the reasons why despite being a step in the right direction Super Mario Party was still a much weaker entry for the series.

Now that they've finally managed to make a good one of these the next step for NDCube will be to see if they can actually design some original boards that are even remotely good for whatever the next game ends up being. It's been about 10 years since they've taken over this series and they haven't managed it yet, but here's hoping!

Could not have asked for a better return to form for mario party. I have little to no negatives about this game. Online works well, great choice of boards and minigames, the game looks fantastic and the attention to detail for the callbacks is surreal. I guess some more characters and boards would be nice but aside from that, the game is the best mario party in YEARS. Heavily reccomend, especially compared to super.

Only problem is a lack of boards but this is easily the best Mario Party in a long time.

A definitive Mario Party experience alongside 2 and 6. While I hope they add more boards, characters, and mini games as either free updates or DLC, I enjoy the package we get here. As a huge fan of this series from childhood, I am having an absolute blast with this game both alone and with friends.

it's pretty much a no brainer that this is the best mario party in a decade

Incrível, sem sensor de movimento e ainda por cima antes do lançamento.

classic rules, not a single bad board and a good online make this easily the best mario party in a really long time, i just hope nintendo keeps updating and supporting it

Not only are the returning boards here great, but they're actually improved over their original counterparts - adding more depth and slightly more strategy. It's a shame the game feels a little lacking in content, hopefully will be solved in the future with DLC/updates.

Les ha costado llegar al nivel de Mario Party DS, ¿eh?

This would have been impressive as a demo for an upcoming release, because in current year it’s absolutely ridiculous to think five boards we’ve already seen would be enough to substantiate a full price purchase. None of the boards are that standout, even if I don’t have any major complaints. The minigames are also not great, taking a weird selection of the not good ones from the first three, a noticeable lack of good ones from 4, and multiple of the awful block dropping games no one likes. I hope they add more boards from the GameCube and beyond, because that’s where the actual fun ones are. Hoping for more of a Koopa’s Tycoon Town and less of a Goomba’s Greedy Gala. Nintendo has a lot of work to do in order to convince me this game is worth a buy from me. Which is a shame, because this could easily have been exactly what I’ve been hoping for since 9 came out. Just… I need more effort

After years of making Mario Parties that ranged from bad to "good but not as good as the old ones", NDcube finally realized they couldn't beat the old-schoolers at their own game and decided to just give us the classic boards and minigames we wanted back. The result? The best Mario Party since 8. I do wish they had at least one more board and that the roster wasn't limited to just 10 characters, but overall it's hard for me to complain with this one, it's genuinely just a great party game. The online is a dream come true as well, aside from some very minor slowdown I had no issues at all with it, and it's a ball playing Mario Party without needing to gather friends or going up against CPUs.

Boards ranked
1. Horror Land
2. Space Land
3. Peach's Birthday Cake
4. Yoshi's Tropical Island
5. Woody Woods

Superstars is as definitive as a Mario Party experience you can get. Not tied down by the new, simplified foibles of 9, 10, and SMP, Superstars recaptures the magic (see: nonsense) of many of the classic games with some excellent board choices. Lots of minigames to select from as well, and the addition of stickers is a level of BM I would not have expected from modern Nintendo so kudos to that.

Most of the remixed music is stellar, and the visuals are gorgeous. The levelling and unlocks are nice incentives to play more, and the online and handling of interrupts like disconnects is very well executed.

I would have maybe liked to see some more boards and characters (and if Nintendo is feeling extra psychotic, a 50 turn option as the current max is 30), but I have no doubt that at least some of that will get added in a future update.

Superstars shows that somebody at Nintendo is still in touch with what made Mario Party memorable in the first place, and I hope to see the next numbered title following suit.

I guess NDcube finally realized that all they needed to do was continue the legacy of Hudson Soft and make normal Mario Party games.
Super Mario Party was that step in the right direction, and I'd say this is the in-between. Not the next step since it's a remake of 5 boards from the N64 games with an assortment of past minigames from 1-10.
It's definitely good, but I can only hope that the game will eventually get updates with more content. The character roster is abysmal and I kinda wish there were boards from more than just 1-3.
The minigame modes are given a heavy blow as the devs clearly focused much more on the Party mode this time around (likely due to the critical reception that The Top 100 was given). Still, there's definitely some positives.
NDcube got their shit together and released the game with a fully fleshed out online mode, though communication with other players is limited to stickers with sound clips or the switch online app.
There's an actual achievement system, which does somewhat encourage continued play. Though, again, they would need way more content for me to be interested in playing enough to earn most of those achievements.
The shop includes some standard MP extra content, including an encyclopedia, albeit with some incredibly vague entries (there is a model viewer though, so that's cool).
Basically, this game has a good deal of content, but, for what is essentially a Mario Party all stars pack, it no doubt deserves even more.

It ripped off the stickers from Crash Boom Bang

really good fun with a group of friends, i always lose though so 0/10

The return to form we've been waiting for. This is a MASSIVE upgrade over Super.

Potentially the most important thing is that you can play this game with a Pro controller. It was absolute hell playing Super with just a single joycon. Your joycon could drift, be uncomfortable as hell, only two people can play unless you buy more of that 70 dollar scam. Seriously I really appreciate the Pro controller support.

This game also doesn't have any gimmicks like MP9 or MP10. It's simply a collection of the first 3 Mario Party's and is really good. It has 5 boards which I'll admit isn't a ton but it's still more than Super. Plus these maps are pretty cool and won't get boring quickly thanks to how well made they are. Minigame selection is also pretty great with there being a ton of them. It's also been optimized well so the minigames are actually fun to play this time around.

In another great move, the game lets you play the board game online instead of just minigames by themselves like Super did. It will also save the game after each turn if you have to go and wanna pick up the game later. This was a surprising but all in all fantastic choice. This is going to be very useful that's for sure.

The only thing I can confidently say that Super does better than this however, is the roster. The roster for this game is pretty bare bones with only the essential characters. This game is rumored to get DLC so I hope that happens so it could not only expand the roster but increase the amount of boards as well.

The hub world isn't important but I just really liked it so I'm gonna mention it. The hub world has a good amount of options. It has your Mario Party, Mt. Minigames (Minigames only), the shop to buy stickers, music, and other Mario Party Legacy stuff which I thought was quite cool. It also lets you play online, offline, or even local which I think was a nice addition to have all their bases covered.

Again, not important but I love this addition, that being the Stickers. Stickers are just little emotes you can use in game or buy from the shop. I just really like the art and thought they were another great addition.

This is a return to form for the Mario Party franchise. It doesn't have any annoying gimmicks, has proper controller support, VERY good online support out the box with consistent connections, and is just a really fun time. If you've been disappointed by the last few games in this series than this is a game you need to pick up. I'm gonna be playing this game for a while. Mario Party is finally back.
9/10

Although i have only played around 10 hours, I can easily see this being the best Mario party on the switch, even if there is not much competition. In my opinion, super mario party was a fun game, but mario party superstars is better in almost every way. I love chance time as it causes complete chaos. The only thing that I would have loved for is more characters and more boards.
