I love the original Link's Awakening. It maybe my favorite Zelda title of all-time. However, as cute as the toy visual style is here in the remake, I feel it absolutely ruins the dreamy, psychedelic atmosphere of the story, and that plays such a big part of the game that I had to dock this an entire star because of it.
I'm one of those absolute SICKOS who prefers 2D Zelda to 3D, and OG Links Awakening was already one of my favorites. This is one of my favorite art styles in any game, it's super unique and I kinda hope Nintendo returns to it for some more remakes. Some cool little quality of life changes ie. making items less annoying to use and removing loading between areas.
I do have a couple minor gripes, notably the frame rate shits itself sometimes and you're locked to 4 directions which feels weird compared to games like Link Between Worlds. Also the dungeon building feature sucks ass which would be fine if they didn't lock heart pieces behind it.

Link's Awakening has always been a great 2D Zelda. The dungeon design was top notch, and the fact you could play a full-length Zelda on the go was impressive given the limitations of the Game Boy. Aside from the visuals, obviously, the remake stays very faithful to the original. The new art style gives the game a unique identity among 2D Zeldas, and sets it apart from the original Link's Awakening. If you enjoyed the Game Boy game, you'll most likely enjoy this one as well. Maybe it's not worth $60, though...

A solid Zelda remake, true to the original, with modern additions.

Nintendo definitely knows how to bring a classic masterpiece back to life without losing its touch. The lovely diorama style in combination with the new arranged soundtrack is so powerful that you get lost in the detailed world and almost forget about the sad storyline this game has.
Some minor flaws for me are in the game mechanics. The original Game Boy version felt so precise but here they are a little inaccurate. Especially when it comes to fight flying enemies. I missed them so often because I can't say exactly where the hitboxes are. Also, the movement when you use the boots are a bit loose for me. Killed me a couple of times. But anyway, this is such a great example how you bring your dusty old game to the modern era.

Fantastic and true to form remake of the most standout game of my childhood. Beautifully stylised graphics, even with some frame drops and a very fun imagination for a Zelda title, with weird calls to other Nintendo franchises.
The dungeons are perfect length and complexity for me, with memorable bosses and fun characters that’ll stay with you in some cases.
Amazing to think that the original was made from a guys side project in the office!

I couldn't afford the remake on release, but because I was desperatly emotional about it, and one of my close friends empathised with our mutual love of zelda, she let me borrow her copy during the day when she was at work. Dropping it off on her way in and picking it up on her way home, she would declare that "little mans is here for daycare" and I would play on my switch in the living room as long as I could get away with it. I couldn't ask for a better experiance of a remake of a game I loved as a kid.
The art direction is heart breakingly sweet and I loved every second.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

Link's Awakening is one of my favorite The Legend Of Zelda games ever since i had just a magazine with a walkthrough section of it in the late 90's.
This remake could be the definitive version of the gamem but it isn't. Link's Awakening for the Nintendo Switch has a very comfy-looking artstyle that suits the dream-like atmosphere of the game and it also features a better inventory and the possibility to use certain items with the L and R buttons, which is impossible on the original gameboy version.
However, the game suffers from some serious performance issues on the switch both docked and portable. FPS drops are frequent on some areas of the map and, while not game-breaking it sure is annoying.
