Possibly one of the most disapointing games I have ever played. Uninteresting characters, a story that is simply not engaging enough and a main character that is miles, miles away from Lee or Clamentine.
Gameplay-wise it's an incredible step down from Season 2 and even more from season 1. Almost no gameplay, no exploration, barely any character control, no puzzles and we only use the controler to choose the dialogue and for the QTE action scenes, here even more simplyfied.
Visual style is also worse, models are too shiny, "realistic" and away from the beatiful ink style of the past seasons.
Avoid. Play season 2 and skip to the Final Season which looks to be a major improvement from what we can see.

In the grand scale of things, 'The Walking Dead: A New Frontier' was by far the most pointless season. But somehow it managed to be the most consistent, compelling, and challenging of all the sagas; Javi is a lovable protagonist, it offers interesting commentary with the character of David, and seeing Clem grow into the survivor we raised in the first season and preserved in the second is inspiring.

Finished The Walking Dead's Season 2 really wanting to know what happens to Clementine after the ending of the game.
Imagine my shock when they turned Clementine into a secondary character, and her whole story after Season 2 is a big flashback. I honestly believe that the only reason someone would want to play this game after playing Season 2, is because of Clementine, so, making her an unplayable character is the worst decision they could have made for that game.
Telltale has always done a good job of enabling the player to express itself with the choices they make, even though at the end most of them don't matter at all. However, making choices in flashbacks feels like a laugh to the player's face, because there you know 100% that there's absolutely no way your choices will matter.
The story has no pacing throughout the game, there are major plot holes, most of the characters seem goaless, just reacting to stuff that happens to them, and some of them are the most annoying fucking pieces of shit Telltale has ever wrote.
This game made me glad Telltale got shut down.

The first chapter is pretty solid. Clem works infinitely better in a supporting role.
..
But it's so forgettable. I barely remember a thing that happened in this season, the new characters are fairly bland and uninspired - it doesn't help they're never seen again after this season either.
This borders on filler, unfortunately.

This is, so far, the weakest The Walking Dead piece of media Telltale has ever made on its glory days.
Ranging from empty characters and even more empty emotional moments, this is just the awkward time-skip between Season Two and The Final Season, and it shows. The characters feel like they belong on a spin-off more than in what we've known with Clementine's story, their relationships with each other feel forced and the whole argument is not convenient at all.
It sometimes feels a little disrespectful for throwing almost everything that was concurrent with Season Two into the trash bin and making its own standalone story, even Michonne feels way better in the universe than this game.
Not to mention the horrible latino representation the protagonist, Joe- I mean, Javier García and the whole García familly in general, they're literally white dudes who say "muertos" and that's all.
Overall, I feel like I wasted my time on playing this, I hope The Final Season is better.
