A God of War clone very much fitting for the brutal Wolverine.

The game is straight foward: we move ahead as we brutalize our enemies with all kind of deadly moves, throws and fatalities. There is a great enemy variety and bosses. Problem is levels are way longer than they should sometimes, and there are some few puzzles that are very pointless.

But then again, it's a good beat'em up starring Wolverino, so it's a safe bet.

One of those licensed movie adaptions that ends up being pretty good. In fact, it's even better than the movie it was based on. It's a good God of War clone and lets Wolverine has his healing factor without him being overpowered and take away all the challenge of the game.

It's really too bad Raven are in and have been in the CoD mines for so long. They used to make decent to great oddities that I savor. I hadn't touched this one since it released and I played the demo. I recently saw a copy of it at a retro game store for $80 so I decided I'd go the ol' RPCS3 route. Pretty fun game! The combos and enemy variety are lacking, but the presentation is quite good and I never got tired of watching Logan's wounds heal.

They absolutely nailed the visceral, violently satisfying combat - this is the ultimate Wolverine experience in a video game as of this writing in 2024.

This has the pitfalls you would expect; some repetitive levels and sub-bosses, and ho-hum objectives - especially in the first half. But there's a lot of fun set pieces in the second half and overall you can tell they really tried to make this a rip-roaring campaign despite time and money constraints; with mostly great results!

[Steam Deck notes: some hoops need to be jumped through, but once up and running this is an excellent Deck game]

Goddamn this was a fun motherfucker. While I was playing through all those Spider-Man games, a few people in chat mentioned this game to me as a good game to play involving comicbook heroes. Yup they were right.

Combat is so satisfying. Love the dismemberment, love the impact that a lot of your moves have. It's so fucking fun just drilling and cutting and slicing into dudes. Definitely makes you feel like you're Wolverine. Lot of cool ways to kill enemies with the environment, too.

Most of the locales are cool, with the entire Senitnel area being my favorite part of the game, as a huge X-men fan. Wish there were more X-men peeps but I guess they were limited to whatever was in the movie. I haven't seen the movie, for whatever that's worth.

Some of the areas, basically all of Africa, I got so sick of by the 4th time going back there. That and the entire final chapter kinda sours my opinion of an otherwise amazing action game. A lot of the design choices are hard for me to criticize, like the final boss and Sabretooth's designs, because they were forced to tie it into the movie.

9/10. Essential action game.

A decent game out of a horrible movie doesn't mean it's a great game. It's only a decent game. I had my fun, but people were selling it too much for the overall experience that I had.

Dude this game is literally just a tie in game that gets too much praise for what it actually is. Sure, it’s nearly 15 years old now but it’s repetitive, slow, and feels much longer than it has any right to be. I don’t think I’ll ever finish this one. Quite disappointed it had to be this way.

This game has no need going as hard as it does. Its better than the movie in every aspect especially with its violence which unlike the movie its m-rated. The gameplay having lots of cool ways to dismember enemies is a lot of fun and the body horror looks awesome when Wolverine himself or enemies are damaged. Also the boss fights are really fun at first its just the same re-occurring mini bosses but towards the end u fight a bunch of actual bosses and they're all very different and enjoyable. My only real complaint is that I wish they gave more enemies health because after a while u can just kill most things easily without getting to combo them especially when u start to unlock moves and get more upgrades. Unless its like certain bosses u won't be able to do any like crazy insane DMC style combos on anything. Overall this is one of those games that is better than the movie its based off and it being a DMC and GOW style game and it actually working as well as it does. So if u really like those games and like Wolverine or Marvel id say this game is perfect for u cause outside of certain issues this is one of the best Marvel games of all time imo.

A fun action game that gets repetitive very quickly

One of the better movie tie-in games. The gore was good for its time.

Does it have a double jump? Yes!
(New thing segment in my reviews)

After futzing about with a bunch of games, I finally realized I could play some 7th gen nostalgia with the ps3 emulator, and oh boy, was I ready for some slop. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is just the slop I needed. This game is fine and playable, just some unseasoned chicken you could eat.

Combat stays the same throughout really, although it does feel satisfying to do the same combos for a while, the game does start to get tiring towards the end. The levels aren't very entertaining because they consist of 3 government labs, an outdoor snowy section, and a bunch of ancient ruins in africa. The ancient ruins feel so trite for the 7th gen, and its no exception here because they aren't interesting. There is one more level, which is climbing a tower chasing Gambit, and its a little better, but still not very interesting.

There was one specific memory I had of this game where I got the final boss (Deadpool) caught in an infinite where he coudlnt fight back. All this mid led up to this moment

Also, the CG cutscenes look pretty good I think.

The combat is very repetitive, the bosses are middling, and the levels are mostly hallways and/or backtracking. I get to be Wolverine though and that's pretty dope.

fun but the combat and enemies get repetitive quick

Only thing missing from this is a good soundtrack and a game reviewer having to fight their best friend in a Halloween Express Wolvie costume on camera.

If there was a definition of average for games it would be this. Through my friend's recommendation of checking this out its nothing to write home about. The combat is nothing you haven't did already and the only thing to separate it is the climbing and moving of platforms for you to jump on with the rare puzzle. So it can get old. The music ain't my cup of tea. The 360/PS3 look of this game allows it to hold up well with the graphics. The only other redeeming part of this game would be the story but since the audio mixing on both the PS3 and PC version I tried the cutscenes were literally impossible to hear with no subtitles might I add. So I really got half of the experience of the game although didn't seem like I was missing much.

I don't remember anything about this, but I think I played it for fun and not achievements.

This game has the honor of having the very rare title of being better than the the movie it's based on, this game truly shows what happens when you you let wolverine go mature, other than Logan this is the only other time I can think of his blade's actually being depicted as the graphic, dismemberment tool's that they are.

Overall a fun hack & slash action adventure game that triumphs over it's source material.

I had such a good time with this more than I expected I would

Really good action game, one of the best movie tie-ins made cuz they just made a really damn good product. Lots of gore, a really cool damage system, really fun skills to use, environmental kills, lots of badass animations, the game has everything. Hell, it has like 3 really great rival fights, too, it's genuinely amazing. Story is basically just a way to get you to the cool parts, but it's pretty worth it. So much enemy variety, too, and they all have their own ways of fighting that make it so you have to interact with them in completely different ways, and then they come in pretty big waves with usually 3 or more enemy types to keep the encounters interesting. It's great, highly recommend it to anyone who likes enjoying themselves and doing things that make them happy (aka everyone).

it may be flawed but this is probably one of the greatest video game tie-ins ever made by mainly how ridiculously fun this shit was...

Honestly, not a bad God of War clone from back when those were a thing. It gets a bit stale fairly quick though, but it's easily the best Wolverine game out there if you're a fan. Pointless level up system that's just worse than GoW. The environments are bland because yeah it's a 2011 game. Violent though, and pretty satisfying. Just wouldn't stick with it too much.

Returned back to playing this now that I've been seeing Insomniac's leaked build of their new wolverine game floating around. A fun hack-and-slash game that is loosely based on the movie by the same name. The story, and by extension, the movie was whack but the combat was pretty fun and the visuals were fine for the time.
This game felt like a tool for marketing the movie, maybe that's true, but unlike what some might think, they actually did an okay job on this one.
