The entire game felt like I was on drugs and I love it.

I genuinely love this game. I played it at a difficult time and it was exactly what I needed.

She's called Zoe to me

Alright little game, basically some rudimentary platforming and the Simon Says toy you can buy for kids (do they still make those?). Would have benefitted from having shorter levels but more of them, I think - the initial cool factor of the album art worlds wears off quickly, though they nailed it better than Double Fine did with Brutal Legend.

I'm not sold on Violetta, the game wanted her to seem cooler than she actually was. Zomm was underutilized. We needed at least twice as much Zomm. I also think a Sci-Fi nerd would've rebelled against being a folk singer sooner, but that's neither here nor there.

mas que juego es una experiencia junto a su trama, recomendado el probar

Excelente juego. Tiene una muy buena historia y si bien es en 2D, el pixelart es hermoso! Juego corto y platinable. Totalmente recomendado!!!

Loved the story and the music element, gameplay Can get a bit boring and repetitive towards the end

Jogo de música, ótimo jogo pra quem curte músicas e uma história bem fora da curva, com um gráfico excelente e um ambiente muito lindo e bem vivido, tudo no game funciona!

Visually gorgeous and with a strong beginning, it quickly gets lost up its own bum as this twee little thing that I'm not sure I'm a big fan of. The big-name stars first impress but then add this feeling of slumming it to a game that isn't really much of a game, nor that good a story (though thankfully they aren’t phoning it in - the quality of acting is really good; it’s just too bad what they’re given to say isn’t). .

The game tries to make up for its lacking gameplay with some of the shallowest platforming I've ever seen, and while the Simon Says rhythm game has its moment, it is, like the lead’s playing as often commented by other characters, made up for by other things - in his case, lasers, in the rhythm game’s case, lots of pretty colourful effects and some nice music.

And now don’t get me wrong - there is a lot of enjoyable music here, and the game looks beautiful, and the acting is good; but the writing struggles to be good enough. Incidental writing is the most notably weak part of the game, with the lead often pointlessly commenting on things we can already see, ruining the mood of the moment and the potential for quiet awe.

And then there are the dialogue choices you can make that are utterly useless, except for a few cases where they decide your background that the lead will later quote. But nobody you are talking to ever actually reacts to what you specifically say, instead saying what they were going to say anyway, and hence you can pick whatever you want, it just doesn’t matter - the game and the character are already written and the options don’t even have the illusion of mattering.

And what a waste of money and talent on a story that for the most part runs in place repeating “be yourself” until the culmination when the lead finally gets it. But it’s a meaningless choice on his account because he doesn’t actually have anything to lose. It doesn’t help that he’s also one annoying dumbass, that gets more annoying the more self-assured he becomes.

Still, there are moments where the themes managed to spark some interest, and I liked the parallel between the lead’s socially-imposed desire to repeat the glory of the past and the older musician’s self-imposed desire to relive the glory of his past, and how they come to a head.

But the game still feels somehow wrong, like an octogenarian putting on a cap and saying “dope”. Plus every level takes twice as long as it should as the “platforming” sequences drag interminably (quotes on purpose); the best part of traversal is when you slide because you move faster through the damn thing. Every time I thought I might still like this game, there was another platforming sequences that reminded me why I won’t.

And it never really rises about its twee shallowness, partly because of its insufferable characters, and while there are moments where the game feels nice, it can’t really make up for how much of a wannabe it is - it wants to be serious, and be taken seriously, compared to real art with its important themes and beautiful visuals and important actors; but it’s just not fun or deep enough and is too often stupid without understanding that it is.

And when an apparently major character shows up again at the end of the game, and all the characters are “holy shit, it’s you”, and I’m just “wait, who was this?”, well done setting this up.

I’m probably harsher on the game than I should be, but I really thought I was going to love it based on the first hour or so, so the disappointment is just that much more painful. Hell hath no fury as whatever scorned, and so is the biggest critic the one that once loved.

It was what I wanted it to be.
The Artful Escape is where you walk and jump from left to right in beautiful environments featuring unique characters while listening to music.
It's not really that fun but it is at least different from every other games I've played so far.

A fun little musical cosmic romp. A cleverly written and very well voice acted audiovisual experience, while being light on many meaningful gameplay decisions.

Awesome art direct, bad game design.

- Someone called this game a walking sim and that help me appreciated this game. Cuz at first, it seems like it could be a 2d platformer but no, it is all about holding right and strumming through beautiful alien scenescape.
- Lovely story about artistic self-growth and forming your own identity.
- Jamming isn't that fun, it's just basically Simon says.

I am leaving my family and going to be a rockstar now, it is that easy now

It was a short but lovely game with amazing visual, perfect for a weekend game

Excels in what you'd expect, the music and the theme. Bit too on the nose for the latter but that's neither here nor there. Fun couple of hours for sure.

"Aptly named, as this is one of the most artistically beautiful videogames I've ever played. The colors, characters and scenarios are rich, beautiful and almost painting worthy at times - which helps pull away from the simplicity of its gameplay. I think that's where a lot of people will turn away from this. Solely as a videogame, it is quite lacking, there isn't a whole lot you can do and even the narrative is quite straightforward, but as an interactive experience, I personally thought it was great. It's a 4-5 hour visual journey about identity and artistic development with a fun focus on music, characters (really good voice acting as well) and astounding settings. Highly recommend it!"

The Artful Escape might mean more to you if you have a close connection to music but for me, not so much. The gameplay is essentially running in a direction and then you'll get a Simon Says segment. At certain points, it feels like it could have gone in the direction of a platformer or rhythm game but there isn't enough there to really reach either genre. It's nice audio-visual experience and Carl Weathers is cool but it just did not do much for me.

the artful escape is a very quick indie game that revolves around the music. its music is so good because of the way it interacts with the environments, its so colorful and unique. Although the gameplay is kinda lackluster and was never that challenging. Violleta at the start ws pretty annoying but at the end she got a little better but really she was still pretty irritating. Overall a good indie game i recommend.

A simple, gorgeous jam session of a game. A dismissible (but thankfully skippable) story, but damn if I didn't dig how it made me feel like I was a Celestial Rock God.

I like this game more than I don't. I'm always a sucker for stories about embracing your true self. However, the gameplay is just too repetitive and boring until it gets annoying. The really good sound design and art direction don't even make up for the questionable style choices it has to offer.
