Practically everything annoying about previous games is fixed here. The game is fun from start to finish and offers a great balanced gameplay and a huge variety of approach with the soul system. A must play.

extremely fun and awesome game that dares to ask the question, what if Dracula was a real nice guy? just really cute and a real sweetheart?

just about everything a metroidvania should be

Unlike Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow is a much more tightly constructed, wonderfully interconnected world. It plays it a lot safer in a lot of areas which for me acted as a bit of a detriment but it is still a great game.

The soul system is a sick idea but due to it being mainly luck-based, it leads to some areas being a bit more difficult due to not having a specific enemy's ability, and switching between movement abilities on the fly sometimes feels a bit redundant since you have to go to the menu every time, akin to some games on the N64 cough Ocarina of Time cough. The game understands the Metroid formula really well for the most part, usually whenever you obtain a new item or ability there will immediately be an area that will spring to the forefront of your mind where you can use your newfound powerup.

The difficulty for the most part is fine, there's never really a point in the game where you feel overwhelmed excluding sequence breaking and going to an area where you should obviously not be (which I did multiple times on accident). Now when I say for the most part I mean practically all of the game except for the absolutely bullshit fight which is with Death, and holy SHIT is this fight completely unfair, I spent around an hour trying to beat him - which is about 1/6th of how long it took me to complete the game - and that should put everything into perspective.

The story is a story, at least with the regular ending that is so abrupt that it genuinely made me laugh when I first got it, but the true ending is pretty damn cool. The characters all have amazing designs, and the animation is gorgeous but it's Konami so this should be expected. My main gripe is just that the characters aren't too interesting or memorable, and a lot of conversations feel rushed or pointless.

Compared to SotN the soundtrack pales in comparison, where Alucard's journey took pride in beautiful, haunting pieces that were each unique in their own way and extremely memorable, Aria of Sorrow's feels derivative and honestly I can't really remember any of the music.

Overall it's a solid game, textbook Metroidvania - short and fun as hell - but whoever thought the Death fight was balanced, fuck you.

Soma is hot.

Favorite GBA game, and also my favorite Castlevania game. Fun soul system, amazing level design (mechanically and visually), great soundtrack and memorable characters. Wholeheartedly recommended.

Melhor sucessor de Symphony of the Night

I may be a bit blinded by nostalgia when writing this review, as this game was my favorite when I was a kid, but I think it's one of the best Castlevania games and still my favorite.

For a GBA game, its graphics and length are very good, with a nice map (although not very varied) and simple and functional controls. The most important part of the game is the soul mechanic and it is certainly something very fun to use, unfortunately the Luck stat doesn't work properly, so it's a bit tedious to farm for unnecessarily long periods of time for a desired soul.
The story it's pretty simple but it works. You might love Soma or hate him, either way, it doesn't interrupt your experience with the game so don't worry about that.

Was pretty sour to find out the downright stupid grind you have to do for the real ending but apart from that was a top notch Castlevania, very little to complain about.

Damn it took me a long time to play this. Multiplayer games have kept me occupied I guess. This game is very fantastic and I love the RPG aspect and collection of "Souls" for various exploration purposes as well. I even got what seems to be a full ending, or rather, true, and the confirmation of what you're told about yourself by the villain felt really neat to witness. The only downside is that the only way to save is save rooms which I felt like they were few and far in between personally.

Something tells me I should get used to it though...

Mfs really made sotn for your pocket.

fiz o final secreto e pqp q jogo

One of the best Metroidvanias of all time! The gameplay is very smooth, the soundtrack is beautiful, and the story is awesome!

Meu castlevania favorito!

A mecânica de grindar almas é divertida pra mim.

Started it immediately after Portrait of Ruin and finished it in a day
It’s fucking good
The cast is amazing, Soma is an amazing protagonist, while short, the characters do have an impact, although you do wish to see more of them.
The movement is amazing, especially after playing the much slower DS titles, having a good base movement speed and dash feels extremely satisfying.
It has the GBA issues though, a lot of running back and forth to get to a teleporter and a bit of annoying backtracking.
It’s an amazing title, really good, really fun, the monster mechanic was really cool to fuck about with.

Spoilers~~~~

While I could see the twist a mile away it was still well deserved and just felt right, the power and mimicking of the skills Dracula has had in so many of the games and taking down the chaos that caused it to be felt like a really fitting end
