I just saved all of these survivors. Why are these greedy pricks still asking for stuff?

This review contains spoilers

For a game that is definitely outdated by today’s standards, the gameplay is still good just a bit clunky and awkward at times. The skills Frank gets are fun to use and add a lot more variety to the game, but don’t be fooled as there is obvious better weapons and not everything is equal in this game(the gun you get from special forces is crazy broken). The story for dead rising is honestly not that good and carlito is such a terrible villain and his motives for doing what he does is laughable at how he came to the conclusion that he did tbh. A lot of people in this game also act super weird and Frank our main character always throws me off with what he says. Like it could be a serious or sad moment and he shows no signs of empathy or has his camera out lmao. He gets better later in the game but the way he acted shocked me even if he is a photographer. All of the side bosses are good for the purpose they serve, and almost all of them are just so over the top that it’s funny and leaves them as memorable. Also the survivor ai is absolutely terrible in this game even knowing all of the mechanics. But anyways, Isabella Brad and Jessie were are fine but the way Jessie died was a lil corny. It serves as a great shock and the story really picks up from what was a lackluster one when she turns so I take it as a even trade off. So overall, if the last stretch of this game didn’t happen I probably would’ve gave this a 4 or 5 out of 10 rating.

Overall: 6/10

I did A LOT of stuff, died and lost the entire progress because the saving system is so weird

Then I got madge and gave up. Didn't like it that much, the gameplay is too janky/sloppy for me

An incredible game despite all of the jank. I absolutely love the detailed American mall setting, the game world always marching forward regardless of what the player is doing, the multiple endings, and the non-linearity of how you plan and solve all of the various events happening. It's a really inspired game.

Zombies? More like...ded...ded-zies...I don't know...you can't expect me to have something clever to say for all my favorite things. I just liked bashing zombies with a giant mascot servbot head

There's nothing cooler than killing a boss by throwing a cash register at it while you're wearing the Mega Man X costume with a Servbot mask on.

I hate to be that guy. I feel like I'm alone in this. I have no idea how anybody loves this game. Sure I'm several years late but dude... I thought maybe it's nostalgia for people. It's just a zombie slapping good time, except it isn't...

The first zombie I killed I immediately noticed there was no follow-up. Couldn't hit them while they were on the ground. No head stomping nothing. Then I realized the zombie death counter. I had just randomly slapped a zombie to death. Does the main character Frank train with Mike Tyson or something? But seriously... I get that the charm of the game is running around and bashing zombies with TVs, toys, chairs and whatever the hell. But even that didn't feel particularly great. Maybe I played too many better zombie games to get it, but the combat wasn't there.

Then there's the guns. Yes there's guns in this game, and enemies that aren't zombies. I quickly realized that the shooting mechanics are terrible. You can't aim and shoot. You could argue that Frank is a photographer and isn't supposed to be good at shooting, fine.. but the guns have range to them. If you fire so far your bullet just disappears. You can argue that the developers didn't want guns to be overpowered, fine... But in the very first mission of the game you run into a guy with an SMG. I quickly found out that his gun not only stun locks my character (boy do I love that) but it does further range than my pistol. Screw this, I'm going to get right up on the guy and beat him with a bat!! Nope. He smacks me and Frank goes comically flying in the air as if he'd been hit by a bus. Alright.... Well I'll just get under him and get the angle. Did I mention he's a bullet sponge? Cause he's a bullet sponge.. no headshot for this guy. It doesn't matter because when I get under him he starts lobbing grenades.

As much as I hated all of this I kept going. I tried to save some people and ran into the worst AI I have ever seen. Well, maybe not ever.. but in a game that I thought was a guarantee good time for what I've heard over the years this AI is horrendous. I had to pick up chairs and move them so my followers would quit running into them. SEVERAL TIMES. They never take the obvious route. Ever. I'm spamming follow me hoping it'll make a difference and that they'll stay right behind me but they always drift off into danger. I thought the side quest would be the best part of the game. Besides smacking zombies around of course. But they're all horrible. Did I mention there's a Time limit? Yeah there's a time limit... If you can manage to get these idiots to follow you you'll probably find out that you're locked out of backtracking several ways in the mall, now you have to turn around and go back down the same corridor. There's so much more shit...

I just... I hated it. I hated every bit of it. Maybe I'm going too hard on it, but I don't think so. I know people like it, but I just don't get it.

CoryxKenshin was so good at this game and i did spend way too much time playing this but honestly it was great fun during lockdown

An amazing zombie sandbox experience that has mostly held up. Weapon degradation may seem bad at first but everything is a weapon and your creativity is your only limit in combat. The story is mostly solid experience. The only major downfall is the time limit being rather punishing at times, some bosses being capable of easily stunlocking the player, and some survivors having the most useless AI that will make you just ditch them.

I don’t like this game too much after finishing it, I really didn’t like taking people into this damn supermarket, but I was quite surprised with its references to the zombie classics. The music is not frequent, but it presses beautifully on the ears.

Не слишком люблю эту игру после прохождения, очень сильно не понравилось водить людей в этом чертвом супермаркете, но своими отсылками на классику про зомби довольно сильно удивила. Музыка не частая, но красиво давит на уши.

"WHAT?!" I hear you saying. "ONE STAR FOR THE MASTERPIECE THAT IS DEAD RISING 1?! HOW DARE YOU!!" And yeah, I don't like rating it that either. But the thing is I'm on PS4 and that version seems to be HORRIBLY optimized! So this isn't so much a 1 star review of Dead Rising, but rather its PS4 port

Dead Rising is a notoriously stringent game series, and under normal circumstances that would be fine. The problem is this version has crashed for me no less than 4 times. My PS4 games have crashed a few times, but it's a rare occurrence and all the crashes happened to me here within the first few hours of gameplay, meaning I haven't even beaten the first story quest! I got to Carlos, beat him, and then crashed. I got to Carlos again, beat him again, saved right after, found the scientist hiding in the store and crashed. This repeated another 2 times before I finally gave up

Back in the day, when I was poor, had no xbox and youtube was new, I did go through all of Dead Rising's story. I think it's a fine story with most of my gripes being things I don't like about zombie stories in general (i.e. I hate it when all my friends die!) But it's still a neat story, the bosses being the obvious standout of character design, and the gameplay is of course fun as all heck.

This is not a review: it is a warning. PLEASE do not buy this game on PS4, because this port port sucks so much. It's such a shame, because I would love to enjoy this game more than I currently can. Bleh

There's a world, not far from our own, where this was titled "Resident Evil: Dead Rising".

Dead Rising does to survival with the 360 as Resident Evil did to the PS1 in so many ways.

I did not expect to enjoy this nearly as much as I did. Incredible videogame

such a unique and memorable game. i love frank west

I respect this game first and foremost for not babying you -- it drops you (literally) into zombie shopping mall hell and says, "figure it out." All of the mechanics I uncovered in the hours I played were quite cool -- holding books to increase stats; levelling up with survivor rescues and photography; unlockable special moves; the way game-time is woven into progression; etc... And the actual meat of the gameplay -- the dispatching of countless undead through comically varied means, including lawnmowers and umbrellas and mannequins and whatever else you can find -- is awesome. You can tell it's fine-tuned to feel exceptionally hefty. Every swing of a baseball bat, or pole, or dismembered hand feels consequential and releases sweet, sweet brain chemicals.

Where the game falters is fairly obvious. The "boss battles" (for example, the second encounter with Carlito) are embarrasments of design. Much of the world traversal feels too slow for a game that relies so heavily on it. Many of the coolest weapons are made far too difficult to uncover in the early game -- a needless roping off of fun. Finally, as many, many others have mentioned, the entire thing is a rickety tower of escort missions with the stupidest AI imaginable.

But, you know, at the end of the day I think there's still plenty of fun to be had here. There's a ton of genuinely great ideas to mull over, there's that miniature-open-world gamefeel that I personally love, and then of course there's Frank West -- a surprisingly delightful protagonist.

Recommended in spite of its flaws.

after a while of playing this game on and off for fun i decided to sit down and complete it, and i'm really fucking glad i did. unless you count resident evil 4's enemies as zombies, dead rising 1 is undoubtedly my favorite zombie game. though if i'm putting objective quality aside - i might like dead rising more than resident evil 4 anyway.

this will not be a game for everyone, you need to be pretty patient unless you just dont plan on saving survivors. i hesitate to give it 5 stars even though i enjoyed it enough for it to be a 5. putting it on the level of other games i've ranked 5 stars seems wrong. objectively, there are several problems with this game. it's got that old corny capcom dialogue, the controls are a bit of a mess (especially aiming), the survivor ai is horrendous, enemies can often catch you in a stunlock, some weapons are useless and others can kill any boss in the game in 3 hits.. i could go on about these flaws, but weirdly, all of them are things i kind of enjoyed a lot about the game? it's weird, but it's part of its charm. the level of difficulty constantly teeters right on that line of frustrating and challenging, where it feels AMAZING to succeed, and failing just makes me want to press on even harder.

i can only imagine this game was born from some conversation about where the best place to be during an apocalypse would be, and someone arguing for a mall. nearly everything you see in this game can be used as a weapon or a heal or something else, and it's so much fun to just grab the nearest object and just swing through a horde. i don't know what capcom employee threw in more weird ass ideas like having to kill random cartoony psychopaths or rescue old women from toy stores, or having the protagonist be a photojournalist and making photography an important gameplay mechanic for some reason? it's so stupid, but somehow, works so fucking well

anyways, this game is fantastic, but if you're impatient or just aren't really down for some kinda dated mechanics, you might not see what the hype is about with dead rising

F A N T A S T I C!

Willamette Mall is just one of the best maps ever!!

gave me nightmares for a solid week when i was young, one of the best zombie games ever created and with a great story + characters but the absolutely fucking atrocious godawful horrendous ai kinda ruins it a bit
outside of that its incredible

Estimada Jessie

Sí, sí, y tan estimada

Voy a sucar mis huevos como si fuesen bolsas de té en tus ojos

It has a pretty great story and I love the simple and rough gameplay as well!! The war coverer himself probably has the be one of my favorite protags!
