THE Castlevania to play if you're going to play one.

como que richter no dice ´´DIE MONSTER ;YOU DONT BELONG IN THIS WORLD´´ en la sala de dracula ? XC

Would have been perfect if the difficulty wasn't arcade bullshit

Dang, this was pretty hard, especially being right after Super Castlevania IV (which I found way easier). The levels and music remain awesome, and the boss fights are punishing but so much fun to overcome. Final Dracula fight in particular really took me a while

Replayed this again cause I had a tiny craving for a classicvania game. Yeah, it's peak. Everything about this game is so good.

From the classic castlevanias I played, this is the one I enjoyed least. The ones I finished are Castlevania 1 and Bloodlines. But I also played Castlevania 2, 3 and 4.

The player controls feel worse than in Castlevania 1. Enemies have a tendency to blend in the environments more than in the NES games, with a more limited color palette.

The game loves throwing at you a lot of enemies with multiple attacks that are selected at random, in a game where the health bar is tiny. The map design is typically very linear and uninteresting and doesn't gel well with the enemies you fight; they don't complement each other.

The only great things about this game are the music and art in my eyes. All the other classic castlevanias I played were better in my opinion.

Me when divine bloodlines starts playing

For sure the best entry in the series pre-PlayStation era. If not for the difficulty being a bit low, I'd have nothing bad to say about this game. The level design is great, the music slaps the whole way through, the stages are beautiful and varied... Gameplay-wise, Richter and Maria both offer fun and meaningfully different playstyles, which really helps cement this game as my favorite classic Castlevania title.

Castlevania peaked here.

It has the beautiful sprites that SotN had, an amazing sountrack, excellent bosses and levels, and a lot of replayability thanks to branching paths. A perfect action-plataformer, and one of my favorite games of all time.

Konami when the FUCK are we getting a rerelease?!

[Castlevania Requiem PS4]

Music: Awesome
Graphics: Awesome
My skills: Weak

Need to get this running in an emulator so I can cheat my way to the end. No rewind and no save states mean I’m never gonna finish this on PS4.

Easily the best classic Castlevania. Banger music, banger stages, banger gameplay. Lets you destroy Dracula with a little girl.

Turned me from a Castlevania chump to a Castlevania man. As of right now, I prefer Super Castlevania IV because overall, SCIV has better environments and a funny whip mechanic, but this one is defiantly objectively the best 2D Castlevania. I might change my mind in the future.

A game which I decided to play just to "celebrate" Halloween turned out to be really great, and it is probably one of my favorite sidescroller games now! I am definitely impressed by that.

Stellar visual style and top notch soundtrack (one of my personal favorites now as well), which makes whole experience as close to arcades as possible in terms of presentation (which is impressive for fairly weak PC Engine). Really fun platforming, interesting enemy patterns. I am surprised how nearly everything can be telegraphed pretty well. I especially enjoy bosses. They can feel simplistic sometimes, but they are still challenging enough and they somewhat makes think of them as a puzzle, like any good boss fights should. The levels are also enjoyable, which can also reward your thrill for exploration (the shift from classic Castlevania to Igavania in SotN makes more sense now).

There are certainly moments which are making me extra salty. For example, I would like less short platforms with jumping enemies, which can knock you back. But this moment and the others are mostly my skill issue, not the game's issue. Also I do think Maria's a bit too busted, she is borderline auto win character, honeslty. These are the only cons I can think of, except some other nitpicks, which can not ruin the whole experience.

While writing this review I have an urge to explore other routes for levels, which tells something about Rondo of Blood. It cerainly aged pretty well, and it is actually one of the retro games which I can recommend without any doubt alongside Doom, Super Metroid and Megaman X.

Played it years ago on the PSP and didn't touch it for a long time because it was just too hard for me. I'm very glad to have tried it again after all these years and played it through. Super cinematic experience, absolutely convincing audiovisuals, incredibly difficult boss battles and generally great atmosphere. Yes, it can be a bit unfair at times, but it's really worth fighting your way through this game.

You wanna talk about a good fucking Castlevania game, look no further than this beast. Rondo of Blood is everything you should be looking for in an old-school traditional 2D Castlevania game. Everything about this game is amazing to me. What I really love about it is that the level design is REALLY GOOD. Like I'm talking no more bullshit Castlevania moments that make me want to pull my hair out. The bosses are also a highlight. Them having actual enemy patterns and it just being a test of skill and no bullshit RNG is why I don't mind replaying these levels after a game over. Speaking of which, another thing is that these levels are SHORT and have multiple pathways and secrets to find. Leading to more replayability, and having a stage select really helps when you want to go back and do everything. Game Overs in this game don't carry the same weight as they do in other Castlevanias, you have unlimited continues and the worse it gets is just replaying the stage from the beginning. But again, may I remind you, these levels are not long to begin with. So that is just a non issue in my opinion. Richter may not be as nimble or capable of shit like Simon in Super Castlevania 4 but he doesn't even fucking need it. The level design is built around his moveset. And the music oh my god the music its all bangers. The main theme kicks so much ass and even the weaker levels have the best tunes to listen to. There's even 2D cutscenes with voice acting! A first for this series! The story is just "kill Dracula" but that was always the case with these games so it doesn't matter. Having an actual save file is also a first for this series up to this point. And little things like that you take for granted start to be more appreciative when you're a maniac like me who's marathoned like 8 games right now. I love that you can also play as someone other than a belmont, maria! Maria is like the easy mode of this game but I welcome it since she's just fun to play as. She reminds me of Grant, Sypher, and Alucard from Castlevania 3 except she clears all of them. Really the only flaw I can think of is that there's barely any invincibility frames when getting hit, leading to you getting juggled by enemies easily. But to be honest, I'll take that over any bullshit death from the previous Castlevanias.

Rondo of Blood is a game I think anyone can enjoy, and its definitely one you should be looking out for should you decide to ever get into the Castlevania series, it's the best of its kind.

This game is fantastic! The music is amazing. The graphics are crisp. The levels are fun. The attention to detail is stunning. You can find diverging paths that need to new levels. This game is a master piece. Controls can be stiff at times especially compared to number 4. But it’s still really fun.

One of the most gorgeous sounding and looking games of 1993. The sprite work here is incredible and it's no surprise that they would end up being copy/pasted into Symphony of the Night. It takes full advantage of the CD audio to deliver some really memorable music.

The gameplay feels like closer to Bloodlines than IV with its faster pace, but there are a few refinements. Castlevania finally does away with respawning enemies so no more taking two steps back and having to deal with that damn skeleton again. The bosses are all pretty memorable and fun to fight. The difficulty is somewhere between IV and Bloodlines - not quite as hard as Bloodlines but definitely harder than IV.

There's some branching paths and a few extras. Maria mode is a ton of fun making some really tricky parts of the game extremely trivial with her slide and double jump. Her super attacks can make humorously short work of the bosses as well.

This is a game that certainly deserves its reputation. This is the finest 2D Castlevania from this era.

Easily one of the best castlevanias I totally get why everyone loves it
Great gameplay and looks amazing and playable maria is awesome although I still need to go back and beat the game with her.
Only disappointment was the final boss which was pretty lame, the dracula X final boss rightfully gets a lot of shit but id still say its better than this one

The best 2D Castlevania game. Happy I saved this one for last. The game feels better than the classics to control but still limits your movement enough to keep that Castlevania feeling. Jumping on stairs is so nice. The level and boss designs are both really good. The Dracula fight was among the easier in the series in my opinion but was still hard enough to be satisfying and visually looks great.

Great game I would say this is a tie with bloodlines for best castlevania game.

The game that made classic Castlevania finally click with me. The level design and enemy placement are near perfection that makes playing through a level and wanting to master it practically addictive. The pixel art and cutscenes are gorgeous, the voice acting is wonderfully cheesy and fun, and the enemy designs are so good I almost can’t blame Symphony of the Night for stealing them all. And then there’s the best bit, Maria.

I was hitting a brick wall with the penultimate boss, so I decided to replay one of the earlier levels, as I remembered finding a key that I didn’t know what to do with. So I went back, got the key, found a locked door, and unlocked a new playable character, Maria Renard. Maria is wonderful, and she completely changes the tone of the game in the best way. She is essentially an easy mode, not with boring stat increases, but because she has a bunch of unique moves that make her fun to play in her own way.

Unlocking Maria, using her to get past that brick wall, and then seeing her alternate ending was so much fun. Part of me thinks they deliberately made that boss so hard so that players would replay earlier levels and find her. Either way, a classic game.

Incrível e memorável, se não fosse algumas partes desnecessariamente injustas seria, de fato, perfeito (achei o Drácula um pouco fácil de mais)

I had little to no expectations going in but wow. This is the pinnacle of Classicvania design in every way. I'm a little sad to be done with this style of Castlevania but I'm glad this is the game they ended with

Super duper SUGOI

This is one of the best 2D action games I've ever played. The act of play feels fantastic with rock solid, responsive controls. Richter's personality comes through with his still stiff, but more acrobatic moveset when compared to previous Castlevania protagonists. And as a secondary playable character, Maria takes this acrobatic control to greater heights.

The pixel art is evocative and lends a sense of place to the environments you traverse. The soundtrack has already jumped into my favorites.

And for a 2D action game, Rondo of Blood gives you an incredible amount of freedom. There are secret alternative routes through stages, alternative levels and bosses, and plenty of secrets to find. This game is an incredible achievement, and I can see myself replaying it many times in the years to come.
