unorganized thought dump ahead, so don't expect anything nearly as thought out as my usual reviews... also, no spoiler tag, but i will go over tiny hints of spoilers (the furthest being who the antagonists/protagonists of the chapter are)

i'm not sure what it was about this chapter, but the humor didn't really land for me. well, okay, let me rephrase that. i enjoyed it a lot, but less so than chapter 1. i'm not sure if i've just generally outgrown toby fox's style, but a lot of the quirkiness didn't stand out for me as my personal highlights the way it seems to have hit for the general internet. for me, this is most obvious with spamton. i like his lore significance, but didn't care for him THAT much as a character besides how much his dialogue style gave me a headache to read through lol. his miniboss fight was VERY cool, but much like jevil in chapter 1, i would never have found this on my own. i think i'm just an idiot? BUT WHATEVER!! it was super fun, and truthfully every character fight in this game reinforces just how creative and brilliant toby fox is as a game designer. each bullet pattern was unique and incredibly fun. i beat the fight on my first try, but knowing how scrappy i got by, i just want to fight it over and over again to really master it. a lot like how i always felt fighting sans!

generally, i liked chapter 2. the dark world here was super fun, although the puzzles felt really random and a lot more boring than every puzzle in chapter 1 and undertale combined. i did like the word, spelling, maze-y puzzle though. wish they had used it more than the mice. queen was awesome, and i liked seeing lancer and all the darkners from chapter 1 again. rouxls card supremacy, as ALWAYS. loved his character and i can't wait for him to continue to shine. berdly and noelle were great additions to this chapter. noelle is cute, and i like her a lot but oh man i just love irritating characters because I FUCKING ADORE BERDLY!!!!!!!!! anyways. that's all i have to say there. also, queen is cool.... i can't say much without wanting to gush, especially in reference to her AMAZING BOSS FIGHT that i do not want to ruin for anyone else whatsoever.

what else can i talk about? oh yeah. the music is pretty good here too, but that's to be expected with anything toby fox touches. my personal standouts are going to be hip shop and, you guessed it, "BIG SHOT." Love the use of leitmotifs from previous undertale songs (especially mettaton neo, who, for obvious reasons, spamton reminded me a lot of while playing).

final thoughts: the alternate route that can be played in this chapter is super sick. love it. had no idea it existed when doing my blind playthrough, so opening up the wiki to see what easter eggs i might have missed only to see a WHOLE OTHER ROUTE was awesome. again don't want to say much without spoilers especially since the game is so fresh in my mind and i think i might come back with more fleshed out opinions eventually.

im excited for the rest of deltarune to release, especially since the next release will come with 3 chapters rather than toby drip feeding the fanbase one chapter at a time. with this though, i am equally excited for things to change massively. i like the dark world a lot, but after 2 whole chapters it stills feels infinitely small, and i look forward to a deviation that can spark some new life into the formula otherwise i think it will very quickly become tiring.

Inject that Cyber World shit in my veins.

need... more... deltarune

9/10 (no ending)

A fun, quirky chapter to a pretty enjoyable game. I like the zoomer appeal to writing and the engaging, character driven storyline. I like Queen a lot as a villain and the occasional exciting character moment was nice. I'm not super hyped about Deltarune, but I like what I see so far.

I didn't know Spamton was an optional boss......

TOBYYYY I THOUGHT YOU SAID OUR CHOICES DIDNT MATTER??? 🤨

PEAKEST PEAK TO EVER PEAK, I WILL FUCK ANYONE WHO DISAGREES

Lo completé por obligación, deberia haber parado en undertale la verdad

No other game nails gags this hard, hell yeah

Somehow already as good as Undertale if not even better, having taken Chapter 1's already promising framework and elevated every part of it

toby fox was on xanax during the entire development of this chapter

this game is so ridiculously better than ut or dr ch1 i actually cant believe it

Back when this was released in 2021, I was a bright-eyed 38 year old in his junior year of high school. Oh the fun I had back then, shooting banks, hammering nails into my head, becoming light, and Deltarune Chapter 2 released! Good demo, but nowadays all I feel looking at this game is an undertone of despair and the overwhelming feelings of jealousy and subsequent sorrow whenever I think about the blooming relationship between Susie and Noelle. I have no clue why this happens, all I know is that it happens and that I am scared of it.

Just as good if not better than chapter 1. Toby fox has the world's highest functioning autism and it gives him magic writing powers

Toby Fox returned this year with another free chapter in the Deltarune saga, a quirky adventure JRPG featuring an ever-lovable cast and hilarious scenarios to play through. Somehow creator Fox continues to impress with his slapstick wit and sharp writing, delivering the type of game for people that love playing games.

Does a lot of fun things, but when the full game comes out, I think this chapter is going to feel a little bit like filler.

Shoutout to Toby Fox for finally cracking the code on making a compelling silent protagonist by realizing that you can give a character personality even if they don't speak.

Best Undertale/Deltarune content related ever created. That was insanely funny and awesome.
Queen reminded me of a shitpost version of Cackletta from M&L Superstar Saga.

The first chapter of this was perhaps too optimistic and lacked the freedom to pursue some darker secrets as its predecessor did.
Chapter 2 alone however, is straight up just as good as Undertale while standing firmly on its own from it with its new and unique setting. There is a little less freedom once again but this is entirely acceptable when that is precisely the point. I have always felt Toby Fox is a composer/storyteller first and a game designer second and certain compositions here surpass some of my all time favourites from Undertale (Attack of the Killer Queen, BIG SHOT and A CYBERS WORLD are some new favourites). The "villain" consistently made me laugh and smile throughout, I never really wanted to stop her as evil as she came across and I was very glad to realise she had decent morals after all, if initially misguided. Susie and Ralsei continue to develop which is very pleasing to see.
What elevates this above chapter 1 and even Undertale is exemplified in one character: Spamton. The whole computerised world of chapter 2 is stunningly inspired but within its darkest corners is something so deeply unsettling it upsets me to even recount now. Your first meeting is quite cutely charming with a hint of something mysteriously sinister beneath. Continuing his glitchy rabbit hole of a quest becomes increasingly lonelier and even more ominous as it progresses, culminating in a location and backstory that leaves me asking so many questions to this day. His fight is of course excellent from a gameplay and music perspective, I particularly love the distortion Undertale motifs in its conclusion and barely audible speech samples, but I feel unsatisfied in defeating him. Spamton was never really in control of himself... so who was pulling the strings? This also induces what I assume to be a panic attack in Kris afterwards. Until this point, our protagonist was typically under the players control and presented absolutely no emotion other than the confusing ending of chapter 1. This moment could mean one of two things: Kris is reflecting the players feelings following a deeply unnerving victory, or perhaps Kris demonstrates more humanity than initially presented and is afflicted with its darker cerebral aspects such as anxiety.

I'll admit, I personally prefer this chapter to Undertale, short as it is. If chapter 3 is somehow as good or better, whenever that may be then I am already 100% certain this will surpass Undertale entirely. And again, thank you for not ruining this one for me internet.

Spamton to me is like looking at a mirror

MUCH better than chapter 1. The music, battles, story, branching paths, hidden secrets. All of it is improved greatly and showed great promise for the full game

Toby Fox's games are the most soulful games you can find out there, you can always see the effort and originality put into each song, each character, each reference, object or line. Everything is so touching, sweet, funny and detailed, it melts me all through. I love you forever Toby Fox games.

If I was actually strict about this it wouldn't be 5 starts but I barely play any video games and this is like the only one so fuck you
higher rating then undertale

i would sacrifice my entire family if that would make toby fox release the rest of the game

Absolute banger, music goes off, writing is great, characters are good, just damn its GOOOOOOD...

not sure where this series is going but it sure is fun
