Mario Party 2 is a good game. But after some times has gone by, oh boy did I notice a lot of flaws with the game.
I will go ahead and say that the minigames are super nostalgic and can be really fun, the boards are also really cool, although there was only really one board I didn't enjoy that much, I particularly love that they give the characters matching outfits to fit with the theme of the board in question. However one of the things that bogs the game down a lot is the friggin' enemy AI. Regardless of difficulty there's going to be a lot of times where the AI are dumb as rocks and yet other times where it's impossible to beat them. Mecha Marathon being a prime example seeing as how it feels like they have super-human strength and you can't even get close to beating the AI. Of course some of the minigames are also not that great either, but not every minigame can be good. But I'd still say it's worth playing this game. Miles better than Mario Party 1 that's for sure.

Definitely a decent Mario Party game, especially for N64 standards.
I'm spoiled with things like CPUs skipping their item minigames now and all that, so it's kind of dreadful to play this game nowadays, but for back then it was great.
The minigames are pretty good, it introduced classic features and the soundtrack isn't bad.

The best Mario Party game on the system for me and one of my favorite Mario Party games in the franchise! It has some of the best minigames, charm, and soundtrack! The only thing holding this game back is modern Mario Party games have the QoL improvements, but it is still a solid title, especially on the Nintendo 64.
I think what your favorite Mario Party is the one you grew up with. To the point I think you could chart fans ages based on that opinion pretty accurately. Mario Party 2 is often one of the most praised titles in the series. Its easy to see why, great miningames, some cool boards, COSTUMES? HAVE YOU SEEN OUTLAW BOWSER I MEAN COME ON. But for me the balance here isnt quite right, the boards, especially the later ones, are often too big for their own good. Gameplay is pretty slow and its hard to imagine picking this over Superstars these days. Having to watch CPU's duel is excruciating. Novel to play in 2024 but Im picking another Mario Party every time. MARIO PARTY 6 IS THE GOAT DONT @ME - YES I WAS BORN IN THE LATE 90's WHY DO YOU AKS?
