My personal pick for best Civ game. I played Civ III growing up, and this feels like a very strict upgrade over all that game's systems. I've had fun with this game while tryharding against high-difficulty AI, while wiping up short games to farm achievements, and while playing long-form political games with friends.

I almost failed college, because I was too busy playing this game

I've dumped stupid hours into this game.

man i don't even know what to say. I like 4x games but civ always felt more approachable than the other entries in the genre. I also think that civ v has done it the best for me.

A classic turn-base strategy game, cannot go wrong with it

único problema é que uma partida demora 12 horas mas divertido demais

Great strategy game, practically grew up on it. Unplayable now due to instability issues, unfortunately.

good, but not my type of game

Really good but gets stale (especially after playing 700 hours) and mod support is not as good as Civ IV.

Difficulty Played: Emperor

only civ game I've played but everyone who's played more tells me this is the best. fun with friends but also the turns are sooo long

You can mod in a Penguin Empire

one more turn one more turn one more turn!

Que joguinho de estratégia complexo pra se jogar sem saber nada

Just an amazing game series and an infallible game format. So damn good.

Better than Civ 6 in every way.

Pretty fun. Loved to play it as a child.

Very solid Civilization game and the one I would recommend to try if you want to test out this series.

Combat is finally not as random as before, which in addition of having only one unit per tile allows for more interesting approach, when it comes to war. Trade is now being controlled by trade units, which allows more diversity than standard automatic approach. Pretty good balance of civs (but not perfect, sorry Napoleon).

As a downside, warmongering system (relation penalty for conquering cities) in this game is not the best. Also some units should be able to stack (like meele units who protects siege equipment).

The disclaimer in my bio is especially important with this review. There are so many Civs and so much about this game hasn't been experienced by me. So, I recently had an opportunity to play Civ V for the first time last month with a group of friends. It was always a very chill time, and while it was indeed a strategy game where everyone was trying to win, it had a decent amount of down time that could be filled with discussion and hanging out. In that regard, Civ V is a great experience.

Civ V is also a great story generator. The grand scope of the game, and the variety of things that can happen and approaches one can take can lead to a lot of stories. One of my friends discovered a tile that was surrounded by three gems and made a rush to claim it as his own, only to end up in conflict with the AI who declared war he was not prepared for. Meanwhile on another continent my neighbor was rushing through the tech tree and I decided to build up a military to fight his defenseless cities. These stories overlapped and were quite fun to watch unfold, and Civ V is really good with that.

As a strategy game, there are definitely decisions to be made, but in a sense there are almost so many options that I ended up just kind of going through the motions and grabbing whatever upgrades sounded neat. The decisions were strategic, but Civ V isn't quite as strategy oriented as you might expect from the variety of choices. If somebody is doing something to win across the map, you don't have much control over that in the early game, and even from a diplomacy perspective it can be hard to convince people to assist your own schemes. As a result, the game can kind of just wash over you and it can be incredibly entertaining, but perhaps not always the most fair strategy experience. Then again, who would want a properly fair strategy experience anyway from Civ, since it is almost more compelling as a collaborative story generator.

The major thing that drags Civ V down for me are the technical issues. Me and my friends experienced many technical issues across our game, to the point that it had to be abandoned because they didn't want to diagnose and fix some arcane issue that should have been fixed ages ago. As a result, the story of our game didn't come to a proper end and that's just a sad note to end things on. It is inexcusable that the multiplayer should be as nonfunctional as it was during our session.

Overall, Civ V is a great time with friends, assuming the game actually works.

Breaks friendships, creates dictators.

Eu amo esse jogo mais desinstalei ele do meu pc pelo bem da minha vida. O tamanho de uma partida casual desse jogo é O inimigo da produtividade

Ps: o modo steampunk merecia um jogo próprio

One of my top games to this day. Imo it's the best Civ game.

Brave New World Theme makes me want to start a whole civilization and watch it grow and advance

Your city is starving, and so are you. You haven't eaten in hours, but thats okay. You only need, ONE MORE TURN.

Note: USED COMMUNITY PATCH to play.

Hell of a game, very fun to play with the patch. I'd tried prior to the patch however it didn't have the same spark as Civ 4 did. This patch fixed everything. As an Ethiopian General, I played on the World Map (realistic) and started of in Eastern Russia, slowly expanding into Malaysia and Japan, taking over Oceania. After which thanks to an American ally, we invaded the Mongolians and took over cities. This provided the seed for me to conquest the entire map, by which time there were 4 super powers, Netherlands, USA, England and Me (Ethiopia). I shifted to becoming a military nation, and split the netherlands from USA, by invading unoccupied land. Using this I moved my troops to take over the Netherlands which was a nation based in Africa. After taking over the African continent, I invaded the USA which despite pleading for a peace treaty I ignored. Eventually after taking over the entire of Asia and Europe, I went to battle the Americas and the combat became very easy with more than 45 cities under my belt. My only gripe with combat is the hexagonal tiles are not conducive to combat or units, and you cannot stack units which means despite having an army of 20+, each fight is a chore. This game is a time sink- this single Ethiopian campaign took 3 days to complete.
