boy i sure do love me some genocide

Favorite one, lets go celtics. Go boston.

Fusion's snappy controls with Super's scope and atmosphere, AM2R might just be the best of them. Certainly it has the best visuals, music, and boss fights. An absolute love letter to 2D Metroid. It doesn't get any better than this.

Metroids are a headache to fight in this game and they don't stop for even a moment so it is getting damaged while shooting missiles randomly until you kill it the only thing that make you motivated to keep playing is the map design in my opinion but still i had fun playing the game

La mejor experiencia para jugar a Metroid 2, lástima que el tema de matar metroid me aburra muchísimo

Un fan-game tellement bon qu'on aurait dit un jeu officiel. 100% meilleur que le jeu de base.

This game has mediocre level design and awful boss design but otherwise it's alright.

I don't care that it's a fan game, it's peak.
This is peak.
It's literally one the best Metroid games ever made, and stands shoulder to shoulder with Nintendo's own offerings.
I include AM2R in my marathon every time I get an itch to replay the series. This is everything I would have wanted and MORE from a Zero Mission sequel.

dont let the fact that am2r is a fangame scare you off -- id argue that am2r looks and feels just like a mainline metroid title, and the amount of love that went into it is immediately apparent. very damn good game

AM2R is much better than the original, but in a lot of ways feels like a half step. The combat with the Metroids might even be worse than the Gameboy game, and the control, while improved, still isn't perfect. The save feature is the same, and can often lead to loss of large amounts of progress. Area 3 still sucks too. Any game with darkness as a gameplay mechanic automatically loses points in my book. Anything else I didn't mention is a genuine improvement. The new music is great, and the new areas added in tend to be fun additions. It is a better experience than the original game, and a fine take on the Metroid series, but it's ultimately easy to tell that this was made by one person, however impressive that work may be.

Samus feels amazing to control here. Everything is super streamlined. Samus is put into a bunch of small open hubs that you have to commit genocide in. The order you do the hubs is fixed though. The exploration, atmosphere, tone and everything is top notch. The metroids are a bit annoying to fight, and some of the bosses are a bit odd, but otherwise this game is near perfect. Its amazing.

the only reason I even played metroid 2 is because of am2r with it being heavily based apon the game boy advance releases in the metroid franchise i really loved the aesthetics and controls of the game and I feel this is a great way to experience metroid 2

Really impressive! Best way to play Metroid II IMO.

I haven't played the official remake. This version is probably better. Fuck you Nintendo.

I had a really great time with this. It was really well-crafted and I could see all the love put into the game. It really felt like a full product and that's amazing. The music was a highlight for me but everything else was really good too.

Great remake of the original game. Found a lot to like in this one even though I also found new things to dislike like the corrected hurtboxes on the Metroids making them far more annoying to fight. Wouldn't go back to this one, but definitely the best version of Metroid 2 out there.

the best pixelart we could have gotten. Good music and stellar gameplay. Speedbooster makes the game extra fun

Probably the best I've seen the original Metroid formula be implemented, and my preferred way of playing Metroid 2 for all the features.

Amazing remake of a meh game. Nintendo couldn't if they tried, and they proved it.

Pushed on by beating Sonic 1 SMS Remake, I was itching to try another 2D game on the Retroid Pocket and discovered this famous fan remake of Metroid II had gotten an Android port at some point. I've actually played this one a couple times, but I'd never beaten it. I even got to the final boss but gave up after dying since I hadn't saved in a while and couldn't be bothered redoing all of that.

I was more cautious this time around, making sure to go back and save after any particularly challenging scrapes against the many Metroids you're meant to hunt down and kill. This remake sticks with the more linear structure of the original Metroid II, but adds in abilities and powers from later games and massively expands on the temples to make them feel more unique. It's a very impressive fan game, one that's since been held alongside the main titles in how effectively it pulls off the Metroid style mechanically and tonally.

Still, while I enjoyed myself a good bit, I don't really plan on giving this a revisit. I found it quite challenging, even on the easiest difficulty, and the overall linearity means there isn't anything out of the ordinary I can try to keep things interesting (I'm certainly not skilled or knowledgeable enough to pull off any sequence breaks). That's fine, though. Sometimes you only fancy playing through a game once, whether that's only once in a while or once in general, and this is a good time if you're into Metroid no matter what.
