Was expecting the ring mechanic to just be fan service, which it was, but the extra abilities that it gives you along with being able to inherit the traits allows you to make some interesting builds.
The story leaves much to be desired, and the cast is just to big to be able to bond to more than a handful of characters.
Never had a problem with the characters design, even from the trailers, and that remains the same for the full game.
Not an original opinion by any means, but the strategy is some of the best in a while, leaving behind the repeated maps from Three Houses and giving you a variety of locations and map conditions to play in.

Next time do a Nobles only run and skip all story/dialogue.
Fire Emblem Engage is a great tactical RPG with a lot of optional chores and some of the most melodramatic, ponderous dialogue ever to disgrace a videogame. On hard difficulty the battles are perfectly balanced to require a lot of tactical thinking without overly punishing the player. It is a bit frustrating how much grinding is required to acquire a full complement of items and skills, but they aren't necessary to progress so it's only a minor issue. The new mechanisms add a lot of strategic depth to class building and encounters. Battling in this game is peak Fire Emblem goodness.
In between battles is where the game starts to fall down. The bond conversations are trite and characters are largely one-dimensional. Character designs are a more conservative 5/10 on the anime-sexy scale, but it's not entirely without waifu. The home base is full of repetitive, shallow mini games that can be safely ignored, or enjoyed for a 1% increase in fighting efficiency. These are all minor quibbles: by far the most egregious flaw is the story.
Point-by-point the narrative does a decent job of contextualizing the various encounters that make up the heart of the game. It's the movie-trailer prose and melodramatic execution that had me rolling my eyes. On top of that, exposition is often lengthy and presented at bizarre times. Really it's just that every moment is tortured ad nauseam before you are released to enjoy the game. My recommendation would be to read an FAQ plot summary and smash the skip button as soon as possible. With that technique you can enjoy one of the most well-polished, beautifully presented Fire Emblem games to date.

8.2/10
Pretty good game, I like the gameplay here, the new system of break is fine since it can heavily bite you in the ass if it happens to you. Smash also pushes you back which can be nice when you need another enemy to kill them.
The music is fine. Nothing too special.
The story is straight up dogshit.
Every character there worships you like some god, every character there has barley any development and are completely one note, alear is a really lame, they barley have a personality and don't do anything to make me like them. My god the villains are even worse. They just monolouge their plans to the enemy for some stupid reason, the four hounds are really bad as well, all are pretty one note too. They also constantly do the "damn, I've been defeated. but I can't fall here, I must make my retreat" all the time. It takes the last few chapters to for them to be gone for good.
One of the characters from the group joins you because he wants to protect veyle, but you could've just done that and not joined the four hounds.
They try to do a emotional moment for the emblems and lumera but I dont give a flying fuck about them.
This story is an immense downgrade from three hopes and three houses.
This game can be just described as great gameplay, shit story.
