It tries not to do what most other Dragon Ball games do, which is simply retelling the manga, so it's sad to say that it ends up worse because of it: beyond its cute premise, the original story not only reads like a lazily written fanfic, but it's also terribly small. That's for the best though, since Xenoverse's gameplay gets old very quickly. Fighting is the only thing to do here, and although the game has plenty of characters and techniques to unlock, they all provide minuscule changes to a combat system with very little depth fighting the same enemies that attack in the same repeated patterns. The game's very structure makes this repetitiveness even more grating, forcing the player to replay its lengthy missions in order to obtain all loot.

I love the Dragon Ball series but I didn't play some of the more famous games growing up like the Budokai Tenkaichi games. Xenoverse is the definitive Dragon Ball game series in my opinion. The create-a-character aspect is a great way to experience the Dragon Ball story and the gameplay/RPG elements work really well. Xenoverse 1 has been eclipsed by its sequel but the original is still great for starting the series and introducing a new way to see the Dragon Ball Z storyline.

At a time where DB games had been mid for a while, Xenoverse was a nice change of pace. While it didn't stand the test of time, I still enjoyed it a lot.

For a time, this was everything I'd ever dreamed of in a Dragonball game. It had its jank for sure but it was great in a number of other ways. Solid, but means more to me sentimentally than it may to non fans.

This is a pretty fun time, but there's no real reason to go back into it. I picked it up awhile ago, but finally decided to get into it now because I've been in a big Dragon Ball mood, and I got REALLY into Xenoverse 2 a few years back, though that file is likely lost to time. This is still fun, it's a good time to grind up a character and make a build. I went with a Saiyan obviously and by the end was basically alternating spamming SSJ2 and Kaio-ken and then mashing Weekend in fights. It was fun. But Xenoverse 2 just replaces it now. I don't think the story of this even really matters for it, like sure it gives a little context but it's not mandatory. Just go play Xenoverse 2.

A decent building block that eventually made Xenoverse 2.

Nostalgic but very flawed.

absolutely strange, sometimes broken and not well-thought-out but absolutely akinda-revolutionary arena fighter.

No need to go back here. Play the second!

I incredibly think this game is better than the second one, it seems to be more fun to do everything in it, obviously I'm already bored these days, but it's very good

This game was my shit back in the day. Watching Yamcha go "Dont worry guys, I got this" and then my friends Super Saiyan 2 Final Flash one-shotting him will always be the highlight.

really not a fan of the battle system but once you start seeing it as an action rpg and not another attempt at succeeding budokai tenkaichi, it becomes somewhat fun

What ended up making XV2, def had a lot of issues (that XV2 unironically took some time to fix too) but yeah it was pretty fun def don't think it's aged very well tho

Dragonball Xenoverse 1 has a big nostalgia factor on me, but after replaying it recently... jesus christ the combos in this game sucked.

Some PQs (mostly the overworld ones you have to complete alone the first time.... ehem super saiyan bargain sale--) are so obnoxious and frustrating if you don't want to resort to spamming blue hurricane over and over (Just like Vegeta and Trunks spamming their ultimates back to back because they have infinite Ki! God is this game fun!!)

and please don't get me started on the horrid drop rates of items and skills, it's really not fun to have to replay the same mission over and over just because the Skill or Z-Soul I want didn't win the RNG lottery. I'm not saying you should be guaranteed to get it, but please don't make me play the same mission 15 times for a single item..

It was fine back in 2015, but now that Xenoverse 2 has matured over the years with 5 quadrillion DLCs there's 0 reason to play this game outside of having a short nostalgia trip
