Final Fantasy IX overall is a somewhat mixed bag, but the story and the thought provoking characters elevate the game into the upper echelon of Final Fantasy games.
The combat is easily the weakest part of the game, and the side content is extremely forgettable and possibly the worst of any ff game, excluding 16...
The world is pretty cool, especially as you get later into the game and learn more about the mist and Gaia as a whole.
The main cast is a breath of fresh air compared to the extremely basic and forgettable characters of Final Fantasy 8, and each character has a compelling story arc and surprisingly deep moments of questioning their existence and what their purpose is (except for Quina, who just completely sucks).
Finally, the story starts off fairly basic and takes a while to really get to the good parts, but once it gets there it's honestly one of the best in the series. Don't let the weird character designs and overall childish nature of this game fool you, because the story goes to some pretty deep and surprising places. Also the entire ending sequence is beautiful and extremely well done.
Overall, while I think this game has a fair bit of problems, it nails the story and characters, which is the most important part of any good JRPG in my opinion. I highly recommend it if you're willing to play with cheats or just put up with the mediocre combat system.

The last of what I'd consider the golden age ff games, which to me begins with 4 and ends at 9.
Possibly the most overrated final fantasy of the ones I enjoy. Entirely carried off of the charm and joy of Vivi, I think 9 doesn't have much to say beyond "life sucks " and "but friends make it better!"
Which, I mean, fair, but I expect more from rpgs, especially one as beloved as 9. Moving a lot of the pathos to Vivi frees Zidane to be a lot more spunky and free spirited, but a lot of said spunk is wasted on being honestly quite pushy towards Garnet.
In 2024 Zidane would make pov tiktoks and be outed for being a pest I'm absolutely certain.
Steiner gets a great innings as enemy turned rival turned confidant, but beyond Steiner and Vivi I find the cast all well below where they should be for the final fantasy brand.
9 has some great fights and some good songs, and the world feels large.im adding a few points of hatred retroactively because 13 reuses some motifs and I am petty.

honestly feel like i should preface this with an apology but ff9 is kind of exhausting to me. it feels like going to a shift to work at a theme park; it's pretty and sweet, it's whimsical, and it has nice atmosphere and sometimes you even see your favorite characters walking around, but at the end of the day it's still a day of work to get through. going to just chalk it up as this one not being for me until a few years down the line where i yet again try to beat my head against this game until i like it
A sublime work of art, Final Fantasy IX is my personal favourite in the series.
Our story here follows the thief Zidane who opens the game with an unusual heist: he plans to steal away the Alexandrian Princess Garnet from the evil Queen Brahne. The escape gets complicated however, sending the pair, and the rest of the party, on a journey across the world to try and stop her empire building. But that's not all IX is about. IX is a true character drama, one with multiple central points of view, but ultimately it's about humanity and self-realisation. This core message is part of what helps elevate IX above other Final Fantasy games; it's a beautifully explored and expressed sentiment that evolves within our cast fluidly over the course of the game.
I'm also a fan of the return to a traditional fantasy land with IX; our dalliances with more modern settings were fun, but IX feels like a love letter to the series' roots. We're in a lush fantasy world, we've got an evil queen, a slimy wizard, a massive fantasy war, and a princess on the run. What could be more authentically Final Fantasy than that?

- The last of the PS1 mainline Final Fantasy games, and is a throwback to the older FF games.
- The Plot is decent, the characters are actually memorable and some of them are well written.
- The gameplay is a bit more simplistic with character building but is serviceable and enjoyable as you go through the game.
- The OST while is good in the game, is not that memorable outside the context of the game.

No, FF9 has totally bored me.
- Casual
- Most of the music is either fucking mediocre or ok, there's very little memorable music.
- Exploring locations is VERY boring, FF7 was way fucking better.
- VERY drawn out because of that camera overtaking thing
- The mechanics of the trans takes a very long time to charge, because of which very rarely get used in contrast to the limits of the seven. Well, and the fact that most of the buffs and debuffs make sense exclusively on bosses, while any ordinary enemy is killed by literally two blows
- very underplayed with the spirit of the fairy tale, if they had paid more attention to this atmosphere, then I might have finished the game.
- dull card game
Liked the ability learning system, but with caveats:
- A huge portion of the abilities are either too imba, which vanshots opponents, or only get in the way like the autozelier for example
- You have to keep your old armor and weapons and swing until you fill the skill scale, it would be better if they would allow you to use an item to switch skills between weapons and armor.
Often it happens that some of the abilities of the item can not be opened for a given character, because of this you have to either put on stupidly because of stats, or stupidly because of 1 skill.
I don't understand the mass hysteria about this part at all. 7th = better in all respects except character models outside of combat, including soundtrack, combat system, plot and exploration of locations

Piece of Art,. Music, Characters, Lore and villains out of this world, and incredibly graphics and animations for a PS1 Game. However, the trance system is not well developed, it should have worked as Limit Brakes in FF7. The ability system is incredible , but there are abilitys that you don't know where to use, cuz you dont know your enemys abilitys. There are under-developed character like Quina and Amarant but that's fine, all Final Fantasys have useless characters. 9/10.
What to say about this video game.
It is the best JRPG ever created.
The story is deep and mature, the characters are amazing, everyone has a good background and an interesting objective that goes along with the story.
The music is beautiful and the world in which everything unfolds is wonderful. 10/10❤️

reforçando uma frase que vi aqui no backloggd
Vivi herói nacional, guerreiro do povo brasileiro e MvP

One of the greatest JRPG’s of all time and the series creator’s favourite entry. FFIX is a pivotal title in the genre and it was a celebration of the series. Iconic characters, epic set pieces, outstanding music, the game has just got so much going for it. I’ve played through it in full 5 or 6 times and it just never gets old.
