I came back to finish a six year old co-op campaign save by myself and boy do I think this game is a lot more fun when played with others! The extended time away may have dampened the emotional weight of Dom's story, but, honestly, I don't think it was handled particularly well. The shooting is fun enough, though there's not enough opportunities to chainsaw people in half which is the main draw of these games for me lol.
Great game! It's not a huge step up from the original, but it polishes what Gears 1 offered up and provides an experience that's just as fun. I do wish the storyline with Dom made me feel something. It was a bit predictable, and I felt bad for not caring that much. Has some great moments, and is overall a good time. Not much more to say, honestly?

A true showcase of a batshit crazy game. Did almost everything better than the predecessor from enemies to the added combat mechanics that allowed for more combat approaches, to the emotional moments, to the compaign itself which fleshed out more of the characters and expanded on the story itself. Just when i thought this game couldn’t surprise me more with its craziness during the last stretch of the game it just kept on delivering more and more.
An impressive showpiece of what the
360 hardware was capable of that
surpasses it's predecessor in every aspect: bigger setpieces, more engaging story, more gameplay variation - the list goes on. Unfortunately, the "tough military men" angle typical for this period of gaming prevents the story from reaching its full thematic potential.

I'd say the bulk of the game isn't as good as the first one, and the historical value the first one had isn't replicated either but this is when they wanted Gears to be a huge thing like CoD and Halo (and for a bit, it definitely was).
The story involves lots of sacrifices, although one death in particular felt like it wasted the character's potential (you'll know the one when you see it) but the rest fulfilled their purpose well. It's got a lot of cool moments but a lot of bad ones like the ice lake which blows up sections in front of you but you can't stop in time. Or some sections that have bits that feel too long between checkpoints.
It's not a bad game by any means, but compared to other shooters it never stood out a whole lot either.

An improvement over the first game in every way possible, Gears of War 2 is definitely the best game in the series.
It's a ruthless game, full of violence, gore and action.
The story is pretty interesting for the most part, nothing special but it does depict the atrocities of war very well.
The gameplay is enjoyable, it's a brutal fast paced cover shooter with a good amount of creative weapons to use.
The dark atmosphere sets the tone of the game perfectly, and it can be quite scary at times. There are many different areas that you visit throughout the campaign, and each area looks unique.
Last but not least, the boss fights are jaw-dropping!
This really is an Epic game after all.
Final Rating: "Amazing" ~ 9/10.

This game is legit masterpiece material. One of the rare "ahead if it's time" status. In some regards, it reminds me of TLOU 2 in terms of scale and technicality, but for its time.
The first game felt more like a tech demo. This one fully takes advantage of being a sequel and expands exponentially. Both cinematically and gameplay wise.
You get reworked cover mechanics, much improved enemy AI, immaculate pacing and the strongest story yet.
Some minor complaints include some visual glitches, inconvenient camera when swapping covers in rare occasions and the weird away the chainsaw works. Also, with the advantage of playing it as a BC game, you get the added benefit of higher resolutions and quick loading
All in all, this is definitely a masterpiece for me. Go check it out
