a game that im absolutely flabbergasted when people say it "stands th test of time" . it doesnt ! th controls are god awful . th camera is kinda shit . i know this was great for its time , but its been nearly 30 years ! its so out dated . if they were to remake it with modern sensibilities , it would probably be great ! . but as it stands , this game is pretty awful by todays standards in my opinion .

i bet mario 64 made so much money on the wii u. i bet the wii u made so much money off virtual console games. i know i sure bought alot. god bless mario. this playthrough was NOT 100%.

One of THE games and also one of the few cases where I genuinely think that it's near impossible for me to say anything especially new about it, but god, this game is so good. The atmosphere that this has is particularly interesting, with locations that often feel like sparse game constructs that are only just beginning to take shape as actual locations, but are still forming all the finer details to truly take it to that point. It sits in this middle ground between having naturalistic worlds and abstract, geometrical artifice populating the landscapes, with even the most well-established aesthetics being coupled with strange floating boxes or blatantly mismatching elements, ultimately embodying a lot about what I love about this era of 3D platformers.

Another bit of magic that this game has to me is how its movement plays into its level design. Super Mario 64's character control feels sublime with how cleanly it flows into itself while never making the process of traversing the environment an unintrusive exercise when you're first playing. Mario feels heavy, he's got a lot of jumps that require a semblance of commitment once you begin, there's some precision to be found in stringing everything together as well, but once you begin understanding how to control him, you truly understand just how powerful you are. The level design plays into this fantastically for the most part, with this constant feeling of "if I was just a bit better and more confident at this game, I'm sure there would be a ton of ways to get up here" in most stages, making them feel so mechanically dense, with the potential to learn a lot of basic, tiny skips just through experimenting and messing around with bits of geometry that look vaguely scalable, because there's so much room for this everywhere that you're bound to find a few if you're at all adventurous.

I might not enjoy every stage here, since some do end up being a bit too skeletal for my liking (not too fond of Dire Dire Docks and Snowman's Land mainly), but this game is magical, it's foundational to so much of what I adore and still somehow also has some of the best movement in any game I've played despite also being the blueprint of a lot of it. Also, the experience of playing as a little guy who makes silly noises after literally anything you do is so powerful once you've actually played it yourself, seeing gameplay videos does not convey how funny it is for this to happen for an entire game.

Revolutionary for it's time period. Played and completed when I was a kid and still remember absolutely everything about this game, it will always be held close to my heart.

One of the coziest games ever made. Every star is memorable, every level is charming. They really got it right the first time.

i prefer sunshine by a smidge but come on. if you don't like this game you will die in the streets. probably the game ive played from start to finish the most amount of times (barring arcade titles of course). it will never get old.

The classic 3D platform basics, and mushroom shaped goombas

if gaming was a drug super mario 64 would be the shit gamers would inject into their bloodstream like black tar heroin

The iconic 3D platformer - what else is there to say?

I feel like I kinda had to be there. It's great, but I just have a hard time enjoying a lot from the N64 library.
Born in 2000, first home console was the Wii in 2010 if that means anything lol

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM this that good shit oooh yeah this that classic good shit with a cherry on top. i tried to speedrun it and was ASS. had to build speed for 12 hours ... 1 star

I think it's incredibly impressive what Nintendo was able to do in basically their first real 3D game. The controls are decent, the levels look great, the music is awesome, and I like the format change to open-ended collecting through levels. But I think this game has aged much worse than a lot of other 3D platformers from this generation, especially with the camera and some of the later levels. It's fun to revisit once in a while, but I think it's my least favorite 3D Mario game

it's a me-mario. i replayed this on the wii and timed myself to see how long it took me to beat. i think it was around 2 1/2 hours. try to beat my score and maybe you'll get something special. this playthrough was NOT 100%.

Enfim, controle reformado, mundo aberto, qual a grande aventura deste jogo??

Obviously and incredible and influential game, but the archaic camera controls combined with a lot of tough platforming in the second half were incredibly frustrating and annoying. I still get why this game is a 10/10 for so many people and I think it deserves the praise but personally I just don't think its aged as well as people make it out to be.

if you dont like this game ill track you down and shoot you

my second least favorite mario 3d platformer. its still amazing though and its hard to deny how influential this game was to basically everything.

The first 3D Mario game and it shows. There’s a lot good in here, it’s very fun to control, nostalgic ost, first half is really fun and speedy, and it laid down a lot for the other games to do better. But man the parts that didn’t age well really haven’t aged well. Camera sucks dick, very janky controls, and the final stretch to get 70 stars is the most miserable thing ever. Still a good game tho, 6/10.
