It's alright, none of the areas or scenarios really interested me all too much; the citadel bits were cool but if you're coming off the heels of finishing hl2 then it can feel a little repetitive, and the same for the City 17 portion. No new weapons either, but all in all, it suffices.
I expected the game to have a different type of story, as this first episode could have been a standalone game. It still a very good game, The only thing I don't necessarily like about this game is the lack of new weapons. Having the original guns are fun, but playing with the same weapons makes it a little less exciting. Even one more weapon would have been cool. But the characters are still great and the levels still look amazing. Can't wait to see what happens in the second episode.

Da la sensacion de que lo que pasa aqui lo cortaron del juego base y por eso acabó en un cliffhanger tremendo, pero lo peor es que este DLC acaba igual. Mas o menos opino lo mismo que con el juego base: bastante bueno pero con algunas partes muy meh.

I played this on a whim because I watched a Half Life Retrospective by Noah Gervias (on YouTube).
I enabled the Developer Commentary during my playthrough. It was very interesting to note the solutions and design choices that VALVe came up with.

Very good expansion to Half Life 2. It doesn't add much to the main lore other than Gordon and Alyx trying to get out of City 17 to then start Episode 2.
You're going to spend it in dark areas and the flashlight is still next to the running bar. It wears out pretty quickly in that regard.
The reactor area is a bit confusing, if you get lost there at least I consider it normal.
But it's a very good expansion just the same. It's more Half Life 2 more focused on narrow areas and it's more linear than the original Half Life 2, not to mention it's also shorter.

You can't really go that wrong with more HL2, but the end with the escort mission and strider is a balls
Fun, simple little sequel to half-life, only buy if you don't care that it's so simple
