Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak takes an already great game and improves upon it in almost every aspect. This dlc features the best version of all the base game monsters, whilst adding a host of new fantastic monsters to the roster. There wasn’t one single monster added I didn’t love to fight. Also the new monsters are really fast and aggressive. Some utilising large AoE attacks to counter the insane movement of the player. Also the final 3 “End Boss” monsters were utterly amazing in their grand spectacle. Gaismagorm, Amatsu and Primordial Malzeno all offering huge set piece moments that were entirely playable. I love when a game can create huge moments like these without ripping control away from the player.

Rampage quests were done away with which addressed a big problem I had with the base game. Follower quests were introduced and these were much appreciated as it was super fun to hunt with Ai bots. I never really wanted to play online so this helped me feel like I was whilst keeping it single player. The weapons and armour were all great and I loved the designs.

There’s content galore here. So much to do and despite leaving the game now Primordial Malzeno is beaten, there’s a whole Anomaly quest and ranking system I never bothered with. Despite adoring this game and it becoming one of my new all time favourites, 160 hours is long enough when there’s other games I want to explore.

There’s some negatives but they are very small. Moving away from the eastern vibe of Rise and Kamura village kind of robbed the game of some of its personality. Whilst I loved new characters like Fiorayne and Bahari, the Kingdom felt kind of drab and self serious. I preferred the story of the Qurio when compared with the Rampage but I preferred the vibe of Kamura as well as the monster introduction cutscene poems in Rise. I was however glad to hear some different hub music because Elgardo’s started to grate.

All in all, a fantastic addition to an already great game. Taking Rise from a 4/5 to a new 5/5 rating and becoming one of my all timers.

Yes, the wirebugs are a gimmick that at times can take away from the base appeal of Monster Hunter's combat.
BUT THIS GAME IS SO F*CKING GOOD

They wanted this to be a separate game soooooooo bad. Getting rid of every aspect of Rise's core identity kind of sucks (namely the poems and the vocals in the music, as well as the rampage quests, monsters, and weapons, the former of which I kind of liked, the middle of which would have been fantastic in G-rank outside of anomaly quests (which suck so bad and are essentially padding for the postgame) and the latter of which I loved) and moving from the friendly people of Kamura to everyone mostly acting cold except Bahari was jarring. They also completely fucked Shagaru Magala, one of my favorite fights of 4th gen, by making it 1) not an arena fight like it was meant to be and thus making a majority of its attacks feel much worse to play against as well as making it feel less eventful, and 2) have a more generic moveset (not every elder dragon needs a laser beam). And I'm sure the new silkbind attacks for other weapons are fun but as a hammer player the new silkbind attacks basically just being "have more dps" was pretty boring. Still pretty fun overall since it's a monster hunter game though.

Some of the best fights in the series, best challenges in the series, best roster in the series, and incredibly customisable playstyles.

Such a blast of an entry <3 many cherished moments online too with the great community!

Simplesmente peak of fiction.

Sunbreak refines Rise's mechanics with some nice quality-of-life improvements, and swapping out Anime Feudal Japan for Anime Western Fantasy is a nice change-up. There's a bit more emphasis and effort put into the writing, which makes it disappointing that it ultimately takes no risks. Also disappointing that all of the new, interesting mechanics are basically all superfluous because of how damn easy the game is. Still, the monster designs are broadly fantastic, the new areas are fun to explore, and the slight extra emphasis on environmental interactions is sorely appreciated.

When I hear people saying how Sunbreak isn't Monster Hunter I always check for two things, and usually at least one of them checks out:
1) They're World fans
2) They "used to play Freedom Unite back in the day with their good ol' PSP"

Don't fall for the common accusations, Sunbreak is the absolute pinnacle of Monster Hunter combat, paired with one of the best monster rosters in the series: you've got Astalos, Primalzeno, Gore Magala, Lucent Narga and many other stupid good fights to learn and get your new hat out of.

A thing I usually criticize about Iceborne is the sets balancing: you want to do GS? Fatalis. CB? Fatalis. DB which are literally elemental killing machines? Fatalis, elemental sucks ASS in that game. Pair those weapons with a full Fatalis armor (or one AT Velk piece if you fancy) and slot in the decos you just grinded 100+ tempered Teostra for and you're good to go!

Now here, things are different: any weapon has so many possibilities, in terms of both elemental and raw damage and skills you want to implement to your playstyle. Berserker, Strife, Blood Rite, Buildup Boost; you name them, they got them.

My very reasons for it not being 5 stars are bond to the fact the expansion starts VERY slowly, like 3 stars worth of missions are mostly boring fights you already did with a fire/blast variation of a newcomer you fought in base Rise BUT the second you slay that damn Astalos the game just starts to ramp up and it NEVER STOPS.
My other reason is the fact once you get to the endgame it gets a bit disorienting for all the stuff it introduces you, so it takes a while to understand that + it slows down quite a bit because the real juicy stuff starts after you reach MR100, with Scorned Magnamalo and the Risen fights which are just that good and challenging!

Man I love this game, what a wonderful life-ruining experience.

"yeah man what if we made a Monster Hunter game with insane movement, an all-star monster list and give switch axe a guard point"

Monster Hunter giocato praticamente fino alla fine della "campagna" principale. Un po' forse più caciaro di World ma estremamente divertente. Un gioiello a livello tecnico tenendo conto che gira pure su Switch.

A faithfull successor to Rise , sunbreak is an overall improvment over the base game . Its still suffers from the same blunders of base rise in term of game world and vibes but gains an actualy nice sotires and characters , an endgame with actually interesting builds and some cool new monsters in terms of fight (too bad they feel a bit too tacked on for MH) . In spite of it all I spent 11 fucking months making an animation about the game so it has to mean something .

The best combat monster hunter has to offer and also the best endgame it has to offer

Amazing roster, amazing switch skills, even better endemic life, just an all around perfect expansion

loved the basegame and loved sunbreak too, the scroll swap thing adds so much to the combat, the followers system was really cool too, I miss kamura so much tho, elgado is not as cool, in kamura I felt at home, elgado is just ok, some people hate on anomaly investigations, its ofc not perfect but at least theres something to the endgame, I think its just fine, they say this is the easiest mh, I cant really say cause this was my first, but now that I finished it I can see that some monsters cant stand a chance to the amount of options you have to attack them, BUT risen elders and high lvl anomaly quest monsters hit sooooo hard too, you also have a lot of deffensive skills so it kinda evens out, I feel like it depends a lot on the weapon to monster matchup, and ofc the skills you have equipped, some matchups arent very desirable and I think thats ok, as an example tigrex in base rise without hammer's keeping sway (sunbreak only) and evade extender/window was especially annoying, but that was my cue to try on another weapon/skills, I think followers and buddies can go wild and make the whole thing easier too, they can drag the attention of the monster so you can hit them for free etc, thats true to multiplayer too, as far as I know monster hunter was actually made for you to play 4 hunters vs monster from the start so theres that, Im fine with you not fearing the monsters that much, and just have a blast dominating some of them (some people thinks thats kinda boring), also some monsters were scary at some point, like the first few times I was fighting them, magnamalo/furious rajang etc, nowadays I fight them just like every other monster, I probably just got better and more patient, more experienced with builds too, I think you can nitpick and say rise is super super easy cause you have a hundred tools to obliterate some monsters, but you can also say oh its super hard cause risen shagaru magala gives you basically no openings, fill your screen with a bunch of shit that hits you, have an instant grab out of fucking nowhere and does a shit ton of damage, back in HR apex zinogre was like that too, with early MR gear he was still kinda hard, these cases are all true, I think if I fight risen shagaru magala 100 times I would think he is easy too, but I dont think he is particularly fun so the few times Im fighting him will feel harder than the average monster, thats fine and understandable, at the point of late MR you probably fought diablos/nargacuga/rajang a billion fucking times so they will feel easy, especially if rise is not your first mh, and especially with rise/sunbreak new tools, I can talk about that for hours but all I can say is that Im overall satisfied with the difficulty, a lot of monsters could be harder and some could be easier/less annoying but whatever, at the end of the day THEY ARE DIFFERENT MONSTERS, they shouldnt be all the same difficulty obviously, if mh wilds ends up being significantly harder I aint complaining too, having a few monsters that are VERY HARD wouldnt hurt cause some veterans apparently really want them, average players might not handle them without multiplayer/followers but thats the price you pay, the older entries are supposedly harder so probably gonna try freedom unite now to experience the old generation, heard some hitboxes are literally unfair haha, then portable 3rd because the village will prob feel like kamura, I think I'll never uninstall mh rise because although theres only 14 weapons, each of them has a lot of different playstyles, Im at about 400 hours and I main 5 weapons, can easily see myself getting a few hundred more just playing with those I havent already, I think for the amount I paid I got a ton of fun, trying on different layered armor/weapon is really cool too, that was kinda long thx for reading this

So much better than base rise its absurd

combat was a bit tough to get at first but then i discovered the insect glaive and had some of the most fun ive ever had
addicting gameloop, beat cool monsters to get stronger armor to beat even cooler monsters

Better than base rise. I like how it gives you CPU party members which make the hunts more fun. Some of the later monsters are very bullshit and made me enjoy the game less so im taking a break for now.

Arguably the greatest roster in MH history. Fantastic gameplay changes and swathes of fixes to improve upon the vanilla release.

i dont think im ever going to 'finish' this one, much like iceborne. it's a big time investment that i honestly usually feel a little too burnt out for near the middle. BUT, i do think that sunbreak is a really good expansion that improved on pretty much everything i wanted from rise. very fun. very cool. go kill more monster.

5 stars just for Sir Jae, I fell in love

Seleção incrível de monstros e melhora os fundamentos do jogo base. Indispensável para quem for jogar MHR hoje em dia.

Amatsu came back and Malzeno and Lunagaron are peak, nothing more to be said

While Rise's base game felt lacking in a lot of areas. Sunbreak fixes a lot of what made Rise feel a bit boring. The ability to change your move set inside of a hunt really adds a level of strategy to the game

started to get not peak towards the end

Killed final boss around new years. Will be marked as complete when I kill the final monster.
