Remarkable fun 3D platform and a really addicting speed game. Hope there's more where this came from

Awesome. Shame the story came up after Spider-Verse but still a great Miles story. Not as fulfilling as the original but definitely a worthwhile follow up

Sea of Stars is like a blast from the past, taking us back to the awesome 16-bit era of JRPGs. I mean this game is a total love letter to those classic gems, and it's just so darn beautiful! It took inspiration from game I truly love like Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Golden Sun and many more.

First off, the battles in this game are super cool. They make you think and strategize, which is a blast. And don't get me started on the music – it's like a magical soundtrack that keeps you pumped up. The way the game looks, with its pixel art, is like stepping into a colorful, living world. Every dungeon you explore feels different and exciting. Plus, there are these fun puzzles and side quests, like fishing and cooking and mini game that keep things interesting.

But here's the kicker – I only wish there were more combo skills to play around with. Still, every battle feels like solving a puzzle, and you've got to manage your magic points wisely. Now, on the flip side, the storytelling could use a little boost, even though the ending is pretty great.

So, all in all, "Sea of Stars" is like a dream come true for JRPG fans. It's got fantastic battles, amazing music, and a world that's bursting with life. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's a love letter to a time when gaming was pure magic. You've got to check it out!

The best come back I was hoping to see for the game, never in million years I would see the day the game will be remake, I was hoping to play it officially on the Snes catalogue on the Switch whenever it will come out. I was so happy to see this beloved game get a proper remake for old and new players.

And happy to see the game sold so well internationally and hoping that Nintendo will make new sequel and make it proper series like “Paper Mario 1 & 2” & “ Mario & Luigi series”.

The game is the best start for someone who never played JRPG before, it was meant to be an easy & fun game. This is how I started with this genre and made me look for more and discovered Final Fantasy series , Breath of Fire series back in the 90s and many more.

The game in my eye is perfect, maybe cuz of nostalgia reason and how many time I beat the original.

What they added on this masterpiece was really awesome, starting with the battle system and introducing team attack, buff (based on your chosen party member) based on your action and defended and the ability to change party members in battle similar to FFX.

The OST was orchestrated and remastered and gave it a new light even though the original was musically perfect at the time, and you have the ability to change between them any time form the option.

The new animation when introducing new characters and key moments in the game was a nice touch and given new life to the game.

The game was built to be easy but I wished they added hard difficulty for old players to have more challenge in the game, but I was pleasantly surprised that they added post game content which was so challenging that during my original walkthrough never died once but on the post game content died so many time I stopped counting 🥲

For people who love Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series or if you never played an RPG before and you like the Mario series give this game a try.

I hope they added a new update that added a new difficult 🙏 and see new sequel or new take on this series in the future 🥲.

10/10 for nostalgia reason
9/10 if am being fair

Beat the main story 3 days ago, 100% all districts yesterday, got the platinum trophy today. Pretty fun. I don't really care about superhero shit so the story and characters mostly wash over me, but the movement and combat is really satisfying and addictive, much more so than the previous games, and it looks pretty goddamn great on PS5. And I really appreciate that Insomniac doesn't cram these games full of excessive joyless content to pad it out and make it longer to beat. I platinumed this thing in less than a month averaging like 60-90 minutes a day. That's good pacing.

loved this game more than both games before it, idgaf if its a safe sequel or not the story was so good and all it did was pick up where it left off. gameplay is solid and i 100%'d it

i enjoyed my experience.

This review contains spoilers

first off: i platted this game in 29 hours, on October 31st. its been an arduous few days since then irl, combined with how i beat the story on the 24th, my thoughts aren't as fresh as they couldve been. i may forget things i wanted to talk about initially.

how the HELL did this game get away with a T rating? if this is age appropriate insomniac, what kinda dark shit are they cooking for wolverine???????

so Spidey 2018 is one of my favorite games ever, ive always loved spider-man as a character , and as i reconfirmed in my replay of the base game + dlc and miles earlier, i still love those games. theyre emotional stories with great themes, backed up by a fun arkham inspired combat system and a fun traversal system. i was hyped af as a 14 year old agenda for the first game, i remember playing it so many times. you can read my other insomniac spiderman reviews for more on my experiences, since this is for the sequel. this game improves upon every single aspect of the first, its insane.

lets start with the stealth missions. MJ says shes not made of glass in the first game after pete flees with her from the sable base. the funny part of that is she definitely is made of glass in that game... in SM2 she plays like a stealth oriented 3rd person shooter, shes a total badass who can dodge, sprint, shoot, and taze. i love how they made Sable the one who taught her these skills, adds another layer of worldbuilding.
ive never had a problem with the traversal in 2018 besides a bit of clunkiness and how autopilotv it was, but it made you feel like someone who was spider-man for 8 years 9 times outta 10, so i didn't care. they introduced a slider to the physics/handholdiness of it, which is great for those who didnt like it. i eased up on the slider at like 6 or 8, i cant remember, but i wasn't really feeling the skill ceiling of 0 assist. the option's still there for those that want it.

another thing i disliked about the first game was how half it's gadgets felt useless, here theyve completely revamped the gadgets system, all 4 have massive combo potential with the other new addition, these 4 unique moves for each spider-man. these are a ton of fun and aren't too hard to charge up, peter has the symbiote/anti-venom abilities and the iron spider arms, both are satisfying to use. the combat for pete has defenitely switched closer towards miles' style, where theres a larger focus on brawls and combos rather than tactical uses of gadgets, but these abilities swapped the spider-men's playstyles enough with these 4 abilities for me to care about to care about them being slightly homogenized. i do have one negative with this homogenization, though. but ill save that for the negatives section. [author's note, i do not remember what this negative was. writing this review over 2 weeks'll do that to ya]miles, on the other hand has these blue electricity attacks now, because of his relation to martin li. keeping with the use of his venom attacks from his game, theyre a lot more crowd control focused.

i played on spectacular difficulty and found it really easy still, though it was fun as fuck regardless, still one of my favorite combat systems, it's so much fun to play with enemies as if theyre toys.

they let you play as venom in this game, that's sick as fuck, especially seeing harry bite off kraven's head at the end, you know what you're dealing with at that point, that level was basically fucking horror, the symbiote in general is total nightmare fuel. its fucking disgusting seeing it's tendrils and the nasty texture it has, the way it slowly drives the host insane... the mj mission where you run from peter is peak.

i think now's a good time to talk about the bosses. all of them are peak. theyre actually hard now and have unique attack patterns and strategies, like how symbiote bosses revolve around finding objects that produce loud noises to weaken them. despite the combat being too easy on Spectacular difficulty, the bosses were honestly really challenging, took me a good few tries on all of them. my favorite is definitely peter vs miles, it's such a great moment...

which leads me to the story. peak. if i had to answer what the first game's main theme is, id probably say trust and betrayal. throughout the story of SM1 peter gets betrayed over and over, again by those he trusts most, but even so there's an undercurrent of trust. miles trusts peter with his secret of spider powers, MJ trusts pete enough to give him another shot, aunt may trusts peter to make the right choice with the cure. pete even has to trust doc ock with his identity. in sm2 there's a running theme of escapism throughout. miles escapes from his student duties by being spider-man, harry escapes from his illness with the symbiote, norman blames spider-man for harry's coma, escaping from the truth. and most of all, there's peter at the center of this narritive of escapism. he fucking dies, and the symbiote chooses him. he's literally escaping his fate, for one, but the symbiote changes him, he believes he can escape the trauma that comes with being spider-man with the symbiote, he can save everyone, be everything to everyone, he could have saved May. it's such a good narrative element that just climbs to a crescendo with the peter vs miles fight, miles has a reason to be the one to stop pete, he was running away from how he felt about Li for the longest time. speaking of Li, his relationship with miles is peak. i love how they developed him into a man broken by his actions, and make miles question what the best route is, if he deserves a second chance or not. Kraven is also a fantastic villain, im glad that he was THE main villain for most of the story, it makes the game better paced compared to it's predecessor since it's only juggling 2 villains. his insane worldview is really fleshed out, im really pleased how he was revealed to be a dying man who can't grapple with his diagnoses because of his upbringing. venom is also really well developed, since even tho you dont see venom venom for most of the game you see the mindset harry is forced to take as well as how the symbiote works, subconsciously building the personality of what will become venom. i love the development that mj and pete have throughout her scream fight, it's really well developed. the ending where pete takes a break from being spider-man is really deserved, it's honestly kinda sad that people are getting pissed about it, like dude miles is pretty well developed by now, not only that but being spider-man is such a curse, why can't you let pete be happy? the post-credits set up a lot and im excited to see where the trilogy ends!

as for negatives, i dislike how the web gadgets are homogenized between the spider men and i hate the new faces. the side content often felt really undercooked, tbh. there were great quests like The Flame, which had a B-plot type vibe to it, similar to Turf Wars in the dlc of 2018. that quest introduces Carnage and what happened to Yuri, so i think it would've been better to either integrate it into the main story, or have it be chapter xyz of the inevitable dlc, which i probably'll play on launch. none of the side content compares to those quests lol, it really feels like cut main story content that's imperative to the narrative theyre gonna tell in the future. hey i just rhymed haha. anyway, other standouts include the Howard and Grandpa quests, theyre pretty emotionally rewarding, esp the Howard one. the flashback bugle mission is really cool, too.

Marko's memories are busywork 100 percent, not even hard but i loved the story they provided, it's nice to see so many humanized versions of these villains. the spiderverse sidequest was cool but using a guide to get a collectible that doesnt show up on my map was less than fun. i didn't like much of the other side content, the target drones had a semi cool payoff but i was listening to music because the act of getting to that payoff was fucking boring, so when i got to Chamelon or whoever I ain't pay attention lol. the blinds/bases are fucking mehhh... i was really excited for the boss rush they were hyping up with the rest of Kraven's family, that'd actually be a nice reward to doing the bases that are less fun than 2018. but no, you just get an audio call about how theyre dead. there's also less bases than in 2018+ dlc. the symbiote nests are frankly awesome endgame content, actually difficult when i rarely had otherwise(we will get to this). so yeah, side content gets a 6.5/10.

i know tons of people love suits in spider-man games but man i dont give a fuck about them, honestly. i love the advanced suit(i always prefer the canon outfit in games) but the look of the advanced suit outmaches any of the other suits in the game. there's a lot of selection if you like that, though. lots of people trashing Miles' new suit, I don't think it looks that bad, it doesn't blend well with the world but it's unique and it's his. i still prefer the base suit he had, and kinda hope The End suit would be his canon suit going forward, shit's cool af(ironic i know after i say suit selection doesn't matter). on a tangentially related note, there's no fucking way the identities of the spider-men couldn't be figured out. Peter's always taking his mask off and Miles' evolved suit shows off his hair. lol

also some of you calling those sidequests woke... it's not the best representation and kinda feels hamfisted most of the time but if that ruins the masterpiece of a story for you, i think you have more important problems to deal with.

i know that's a huge amount of negatives, but in my heart of hearts i can't give this anything but a 10. it's the perfect follow up story-wise, even more emotionally gripping and even if the gameplay isn't challenging, it's a ton of fun to plow through enemies. i love this game, i loved my time spent with it, what more could i ask for?

also, i have no other place to put this but the aesthetics of this game are beautiful, new york in 60fps is so fucking cool, not to mention the Venomscape that nyc looks like in the last few hours. the game crashed relatively few times, as well. i did get spider cube tho, epicsauce. i wouldn't mind a martin li spinoff game that goes over his internal conflict. but i know that wouldn't happen.

Remedy's finally hit another home run, Alan Wake 2 excels everywhere the Finnish Developer's recent games haven't. The Characters are all immediately engaging, the environments exciting to explore, Phenomenal pacing, and some of the best surprise sequences in any recent game.

I can't believe I'm saying this in the year of Baldur's Gate 3, but this might be my GOTY.

Can't wake for Max Payne's remakes and whatever else Remedy is cooking up. Except that live service game.

While is was a very memorable and worthwhile experience, most its flare is found in its story and presentation. So if you're light on cash I could possibly recommend on a Youtube playthrough as the general gameplay is not your traditional survival horror. As most of the game is watching cutscenes, talking to people, or walking around. While the gunplay and puzzles are very flashy, I can easily say that they're not good enough to hold up the whole game. Alan Wake 2 is most definitely a very good game but as a survival horror game it won't really be competing with this year's Resident Evil remake.

After experiencing some questionable moments during my adventure in Alan Wake's Universe, I have discovered a truly masterfully crafted game here, something that only Remedy could have accomplished.

Let's begin with the weaker aspect, which is the combat. The survival horror elements were not executed as effectively as in some other games within the same genre. While it did work, it fell bad sometimes.

However, that's where the negatives end. The rest of the game is absolutely mind blowing. Everything about it is phenomenal. As someone who is easily scared, I found myself enduring an abundance of jumpscares and an atmosphere that continuously drew me deeper into a sense of despair. Even though the game isn't particularly terrifying, you will not fight much and explore a lot without anything happen. Surprisingly, I played through it all with a smile on my face (and some screams).

I could list all the game's qualities, but that wouldn't make for an interesting review. What truly surprised me is that, after my mixed feelings about the franchise, I now find myself eagerly awaiting the next game and how they will take their storytelling to a whole new level, just as they have done with this one.

This gane has an amazing story and swing gameplay, but the glitches, boss fights and repetetivness hold this from being a 5.

Pep's Season of Spooks - Game 18
The culmination of everything Remedy Entertainment have worked for in the last 22 years.

I'm not going to post a lengthy review for this one, you absolutely need to play this if you can. This sets a new standard for storytelling in games. It looks incredible and plays great, with excellent writing and acting throughout the twisty plot. I'm genuinely going to be thinking about this game for weeks, possibly even months.

Sorry RE4 Remake, Alan Wake II just beat you out for my horror game of the year.

Scary Rating 7/10 - Overall Rating 9/10

An incredible achievement in creativity, art and design. This is one for the ages. A masterclass work by Remedy. It's rare to find this kind of uncompromising artistic vision in a AAA video game. This is one I won't soon forget.

As always, with a narrative heavy game like this it's tough for me to talk more in depths about the nuances of the story without getting into spoilers but I am going to do my best here as Alan Wake II has a lot to unpack. What I can absolutely say is this: Remedy continue to be masters of style, atmosphere, and story telling.

Alan Wake II is a massive departure from the first game in terms of how it looks, plays, and just generally feels. It is much more of a survival horror game this time around with proper grid-based, Resident Evil-ass inventory management. Enemies feel to be more of a threat, and in general we have a much darker and more terrifying tone than the first game.
Dark areas are dark and your flashlight feels more important than ever, as infrequent uses of street lights, safe rooms, and neon provide some semblance of relief among the atmosphere. For fans of the previous game Control, a lot of impressive visual tricks to mess with the player are used in this game, but do be warned that there is a liberal usage of old-fashioned hard-cut jump scares as well.

The game features two playable protagonists, Saga and Alan. Once both are properly introduced, the player can freely hop between them in safe rooms and play their stories in whatever order they wish. I could certainly see different players coming away with wholly different experiences depending on if they choose to prioritize one over the other, or keep an even balance throughout. Both characters have their own collectibles, with Saga pinning hers up on a corkboard and Alan using them to strengthen various gameplay abilities.

As for the narrative, it is a wild ride from start to finish. I can certainly see it being divisive (in full honesty, I am still not totally settled on this score) and at times it feels fairly cyclical. There were a couple of moments that I felt like Remedy was more "checking a box" for a thing that has to be in Remedy games now, but it all still serves a meaningful purpose for either the story or the player, and is executed well. Saga is a fantastic new character with her own quirks and struggles, and she had me every bit as invested as Alan himself. Overall, I am excited to see what the Final Draft and the DLC will bring, and what ultimately will be next in line from Remedy.

Alan Wake 2 is a work of art. It is bold, cryptic, and does not compromise on its own weirdness nor the messages it wishes to convey. It is definitely rough in some areas but still manages to be a charming package overall. I don't think I have played a AAA game so uncompromising since Death Stranding, and I hope we continue to get more crazy off-the-wall shit like this.

More interesting story (Peter's, at least) than the previous one. It improves in all aspect to both MSM1 and Miles's game. The combat is deeper and actually challenging at Hard difficulty. The expanded open world is still incredible and the movement was improved upon, something that I didn't think was possible. Excited for Spider-Man 3 !
