Turn based mech combat. It's got all sorts of customization and min-maxing.

Maybe the best one on the PS2? They actually implemented using the left analog stick to aim by this point so its great.

They removed the fun cooperate subterfuge story and made a simulator type game. It's OK.

GAOTED. Try it out. You raise your monster from a set of different types, train them up, and compete in MULTIDIMENSIONAL turn based rock-paper-scissors combat.

This game was just confused. The tactical elements and the fighting game part REALLY don't blend well together.

Such a great game. You really feel like the monster you're fighting has a mind of its own. Some bosses are really hard to find out how to defeat, but that's the game.

It was clunky. It was full of game mechanics poorly explained.
This game set the foundation for the series and if you played it back then, the atmosphere it created was incredible.

2003

Controls kinda suck. It was like this close to being a great game. Interesting level design, but holy crap the water levels suck and the camera is god awful in some places.

Aside from the batshit stuff that happens in the game it's basically the Heavy Rain of the PS2 console. The narrative really makes you want to do all you can to help the characters succeed.

It's great cartoony violence where you can cruise around listening to 80s music.

Its a great sequel to Up Your Arsenal, but you don't have clank and the writers really goat lazy this time around.

You can destroy terrain to create line of sight for your teammates. It's a fun tactical gameplay game. The game has a fast-forward button for the cutscenes. No really.

Seriously probably the most fun combat system of all the Final Fantasies.
