Pokemon.

When I was a kid, I loved Pokemon Gen 1 and 2 so much, and kept playing Blue and Silver long after Gen 3 was already out. Lost complete interest in the Pokemon games for no apparent reason and never played a new game until 3DS. It's time to see what I've been missing for the last 20+ years.

(Replayed on December 2022)

Such a simple and charming little game, no matter what comes next I'll always think of this game as the purest Pokemon experience.

A new virtual world to explore, a new beginning without expectations, just you and your Pokemon traveling around Kanto, the most grounded region of the franchise, and the most appealing for me now and then.

This game didn't need extensive lore or in-game mythology, back in the day everyone I knew had their little theories about it. From glitches that didn't exist, to the famous "mew under the truck" stuff, the game was sourrounded by mystery and unknown secrets that no one could really verify for sure (until years later when people could easily access the internet).

The simplicity and honesty of Gen 1 made our imagination fill the gaps, and that's the main thing why I loved Pokemon games early on.
And ignoring nostalgia (if I can even do that), that's why I'll always remember this game and how it made me feel.
This is just a 3rd gen rom hack with no additions and generally uglier and forgettable.
