i lack friends but this game is remarkably good even single player

really splendidly made video game that is tons of fun and something i look forward to returning to. the story is very different from standard FF storytelling and feels like a breath of fresh air and has the most fascinating setting in the series by far. the job system is borderline perfect mechanically and satisfies everything one would desire from a final fantasy urge. there are some annoyances that the game would do much better without (major framerate issues, bravery/faith system is lame, random encounters are done poorly, arithmetician is beyond broken) but the core of this game is truly magnificent.

This is a good game. It would be extremely easy to levy its many shortcomings against it in bullet-point fashion to make the case that it is not impressive or even bad; however, in the future i see myself looking back on this game quite fondly. This game fits right into that late 90s early 00s era of video games where creativity was at its peak and developers had to push the limited technology into their insane ideas. Not only that but the junction system--grindy as it can be--makes this by far the most enjoyable mainline final fantasy gameplay wise within the first 10 entries, potentially ever. Optimizing and toying around with that made playing for hours on end very easy, and it is no wonder this is the only final fantasy where I ended up level capping and actually killing the Biggest Baddest Dude There Is (Omega Weapon). On top of all that, when the story is good it hits really hard. Squall and Rinoa have such an endearing arc that doesn't interrupt the overall plot in any way whatsoever. The ending cutscene post final boss was downright amazing; I haven't been that impressed with visual mindfuckery since I'd seen Perfect Blue.

Playing FF8 really made me feel a bit sad that it was 7 that got the remake. Not trying to hate on FF7R but in my opinion, OG 7 was pretty close to perfect the way it was made back for the PS1, and the remake didn't really improve upon it in any way that it really needed for it to function (although it did kind of create a new identity for itself). I mentioned that 8 has its shortcomings--and believe me there are a handful and they are quite serious--but I think if some of it were addressed properly then Final Fantasy 8 could have really been spectacular and immortalized as a must-play classic JRPG.

messed up my ds screen 15 years ago smh

this game is so cool wish i could play it

2007

played the eek out of this back in like 2012 but i remember being endlessly frustrated about infinite combos and how easy it is to just die instantly on any song. skill issue ig but it is a cool game

2022

definitely a 4.5 or a 5 if i could actually fucking play this game with any proficiency but the holy cross in this game is more thought-provoking than the actual cross is in real life

they actually wrote that skit about milla's bazongas

could be a lot better or worse than i remember but the god-generals are definitely amazing. love you arietta

not that bad but they kinda eeked the pooch on being a satisfying Sequel To The Beloved Game They Bit Off. emil and marta are endearing in that cringey flavor that i think most people would not appreciate, and that's reasonable but the love is there. the monster collecting part is eh to me.

legit just played it and couldn't tell you anything about it other than yuri being sauced as hell and patty being fun to play

has absolutely not aged well at all but my love for this game, its cast, its gameplay, its setting, the music, the entire concept has not waned one bit. somehow i've yet to find a villain in actual anime that i like half as much as the guy in this game. you humans are all the same.

(this only applies up to whispers of the old gods) really really really really really really really good card game that i think anybody would enjoy if it weren't so absolutely demanding of people's time AND money in order to keep relevant decklists.

2020

artistically the most delectable thing on earth in every dimension
