Has glimpses of what trails lost all those years ago, but deep down, it's still cold steel. The reverie corridor is a grindy, samey nightmare, and the plot is just rehashing everything we've already seen before.

Absolutely slaughters the entire series with the sheer amount of options you have gameplay wise; and the fact that the game expects you to use them.

A return to GBA supports so now I don't need every support to be a tonal wreck between either being way too serious and being took for a joke or a joke and took serious.

Decent story for fire emblem standards.

Ivy is peak.
They made maps fun again. They haven't figured it out for so long. Thanks engage. I love you.

I've dreaded to come out and say it...

Xenoblade isn't my thing. I found the gameplay stimulating only during short occasions. Maybe I'm just too impatient. Maybe I just don't get Xenoblade.

This game does feature fantastic music as well as strongly produced cutscenes, but I seemed to enjoy the action present in the cutscenes more than a lot of the actual gameplay. Can't say this is a bad game at all, but maybe it was my pride that got the better of me that wanted to finish it all the way after paying nearly full retail for it, even though I was ready to move on within 20 hours.

I wanted to have come away with a better experience for a beloved jrpg series. But, the final potent and moving scenes did leave a good taste in my mouth, and even though it probably won't be for a LONG time, I'm open to someday potentially trying out X1DE.

Nearly everyone in this game besides Shulk is written to service him as a character and not to be their own people, especially the women, who essentially only exist for romance. Unfortunately, Shulk is not very interesting either.

So when I got this game I had done my research and knew what to expect, but I was very surprised by some of the low scores on here.

Is it the best strategy game I've ever played? No, but it does a lot of things really well too. I'd say it's about an 8/10 if you go into it expecting a meld between a strategy rpg and a normal strategy game like civ where you can take over (and lose) cities. I like it a lot. I'm typically a fan of games that try to marry two different genres. In this case obviously it's a safe combo but I do enjoy it none the less. Have played it about 30 hours. If you don't like turn based strategy games you won't like it. It's also a pretty expensive game on the switch so make sure you're going to like it before you do buy it lol.
