It's a definite improvement over the first MK game. The movement and overall combat feels much smoother. Also, this has the best atmosphere in the series. The alternate dimensional fantasy look, the vibrant yet relaxed palette really gave MK a unique look compared to other fighting games, let alone with video games. That's not to say the first MK didn't have an excellent feel, but it feels less kitschy in MK2. Also, it's the nicest use of digitized graphics I have seen in a game around the time the game was released, the characters don't feel out of place in the bizarre world they're placed in. In addition, the fatalities really look gruesome! They're the most violent of the original 2D era of Mortal Kombat.

Unfortunately, it does have some of the first MK's flaws, that being the gameplay. It's responsive, I don't have trouble pulling off special moves, but it's still very basic. Everyone has the same normals and any differences in mobility between characters is barely noticeable.

It's an improvement over the first MK in almost every way. Better presentation, graphics, gore, atmosphere. The gameplay has improved, but it's still not enough for it to be anything too interesting. It's the most refined of the classic 2D MK games, so if you're looking to give these games a go, MKII is a good start.

I remember the gameplay being rancid. I spent more time playing with the storyline creator, where I had Kane murdering everyone and kidnapping Obama, sending in hitman to kill Rey Mysterio (for some reason) and The Great Khali beating the shit out of Luigi cause the toilets are clogged, and John Cena being a dumbass detective, beating the shit out of Kane and gets congratulated by the ghost of Rey Mysterio

This isn't even a game but having Omega Tom hanks be the representative of MUGEN on Backloggd earns its 5 stars.

This game is literally gonna eviscerate your ass

This game ain't too shabby!

It's not amazing or jaw dropping, but I feel like most Pac-Man games that try to get out of its comfort zone are usually just okay. The Pac-Man World games are fine, but you can replace the Pac-Man character and you wouldn't lose much. Here, this can't be anything other than Pac-Man and takes that formula to a natural level adding puzzle elements to the labyrinth style that's found in Pac-Man. I still prefer the original format of the Pac-Man games, but I don't mind popping this in once in a while and giving it a go.

On the surface, this is a pretty rad compilation AND it truly is. But, if you're a pretty hardcore fan and in the know with online play. The games themselves aren't gonna be the highlight. It's the galleries and information. SO it is worth getting for that, if you're a big fan of Street Fighter. BUT what's the problem? Well, the netplay is pretty mediocre. If you want to play these games online, you should play them on Fightcade or Red GGPO instead. Or if you just want to play 3rd Strike online, you should get "Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online" instead. Because, aside from Street Fighter I, all of these games are readily available to play on Fightcade. Now granted, just getting the roms for free isn't legal, but it does hurt the incentive to buy 30 dollars for this compilation. I felt like it was a missed opportunity to contain other games like Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, or the obscure Hyper Street Fighter Alpha that's only in the Street Fighter Alpha collection. Those games are unique and haven't seen any extra ports. BUT that's minor. This is a good way to obtain these games legally, this is still a good selection of games and the historical information and the galleries are fun go through.

Okay. This is one of my first video games. This is my first fighting game. This game, got me into the genre and made me into a weeb. So, I do have massive respect and admiration for this game.

But let's not kid ourselves, this game has aged POORLY. The old MKs always had basic combat, everyone has the same normals just with different special moves. It functions fine but it's super clunky. For sure, the gameplay is the worst part of the game. BUT, the atmosphere and presentation is pretty damn good and of course the inclusion of fatalities are awesome, admit it. You love em' too. The music is pretty kickin, especially on the Genesis/Mega Drive version! The version I was introduced Mortal Kombat on. SO it's a cool game, shallow gameplay. I still love it, but I gotta be honest on this one.

You like Hokuto No Ken? Play this. Its balance is busted as fuck but you will have a fun time and love the fan service.

The time of retribution...

DECIDE THE DESTINY

It sucks, but for 1989 it's pretty innovative. Selectable characters, multiplayer? All in 1989 on the gameboy? Gameplay isn't fun, but, aye, not much to compare to at the time.

Nothing. I MEAN nothing in this game functions how it should. it's truly the worst video game I played. It's a disgrace to Hokuto No Ken, it's a disgrace to fighting games, it's a disgrace to my senses. This game sucks fucks but eve saying that is too much of a compliment cause SHIT I'd like to suck on fuck.

Never had I played a game I both loved so much, yet also simultaneously hate.
