Wow, what a game. I never had the chance to play the first red dead redemption when it came out but considering the hype around the game when it released me and my brother bought the game. 100% worth it.
First thing about the game which struck me was obviously the immersive open world aspect, it’s very easy to make an open world which feels dull and boring but this didn’t lack that. The ability to do anything anywhere was really nice but the story was still set out and easy to navigate. Another thing that adds to the open world of rdr2 was the attention to detail, from growing beards to crocodiles having actual killing patterns it felt like the world was alive.
Secondly the story was amazing, you didn’t need to play the first game to understand it and you got so attached to the characters it was insane. The way the game draws you into the character of Arthur Morgan and allows you to choose his future through his choices has to be one of the best narrative driven games I’ve experienced, the honour system too plays a key part in this as it makes you really second guess your choices.
Finally the sound design and music has to be mentioned, what a soundtrack. The game genuinely felt as if you’d been transported into western times again. The voice acting was incredible, to this day I still can remember the exact tones of voice for each character. For the soundtrack, it perfectly complemented the games atmosphere which is exactly what was needed.
Overall this game exceeded any expectation I had and the people at rockstar really made something special. If your considering buying, definitely do.
